Godha (2017)
Nice sports movie
The basic theme is wresling and women empowerment similar to the Movie Dangal. However the enire story is different and picturised in a light hearted manner. Casting is excellent and Wamiqua as heroine is wonderful choice since she looks authentic and sweet.Tovino as hero shows progress and promise, I cant imagine anyone else other than him from Malayalam industry now in this role. The background music by Shan rahman is raises the film to another level. Overall nice moie experience. And Basil as the direcor done far better after his debut 'Kunjiramayanam' and shows good cinematic sense now.
Thondimuthalum Dhriksakshiyum (2017)
Nice movie
The the character evolution of each of the lead cast is excellent. Thanks to excellent casting and direction. Special mention goes to Fahad who could portray the burglar character sweetly. Simple story, nice screenplay and at the end it was hard to tell who is victim or who is effective.
Bangalore Days (2014)
Nice movie
The film picturize the story of 3 cousins from Kerala and their love life which predominantly develops in the city of Bangalore. With 3 different story tracks, it is a difficult to package in to a movie format, but the screen play & direction by Anjali Menon make it look easy. The treatment of the story is appropriate and realistic. The cinematography is nice, conveying more with less words. Background score and music is suited to the movie although there are some instances of plagiarism. The cast is brilliant and each just goes in to the skin of character. Dulquer, Nivin, Fahad, Nazria, Isha, Nithya and Parvathy each stars in their own right does justice to their roles.
Queen (2013)
Feel good movie
In the genre of feel good movies it counts among the top spots. It was nice watching the story of a girl from a conservative background traveling abroad and in the mean time she gets over her boyfriend who recently ditched her. She travels from Paris to Amsterdam, meets different people, expose herself to a different cultures and more importantly she rediscover her confidence. The audience just fall in love with her. The movie in short is the story of the girl 'Rani' aka 'Queen' played by Kankana Ranaut. Her portrayal of the character is so brilliant that I forgot that it was the same Kankana who did films like 'Fashion' and 'Gangster'. Back ground score and music is good. The movie never goes melodramatic, thanks to the director.
PK (2014)
Over rated
I saw the film to support the freedom of expression, after some people demanded banning of the film in India. It has a rating of 8.7 as of NOW. Is it is not overrated? It is definitely a one time must watch movie though. It is nice to see an acclaimed director and actor doing social satire, but I felt if they had done it in more subtle way, it would have been better. Story goes on monotonously attacking religious rituals and god men. It could be relevant. But there are other movies in bollywood and regional cinema which done a better job. The director took very mature efforts to express his social views in previous attempts. He made us to reflect upon our health care system in 'Munna bhai MBBS' and educational system in '3 idiots'. As we watch the film we realize this time his target is some religious practices. Everything is okay, but it is very peripheral and rather biased. What is the need for sub plots with Muslim character from Pakistan? Come on man, if you want to express concerns of 'Islamophobia' let me remind that India has a larger Muslim population and he very well could have been from India. I feel it was simply included to appease viewers from Pakistan. Music and back ground score is mediocre. The film may have actors with caliber, but this film is not their best. I don't find anything exceptional in Amir khan's portrayal of alien. I am surprised to see so many praises expressed for this movie made and acted by some talented people. But it is sad that people give in to hero worshiping, when the movie itself talks against irrational worship.
Classmates (2006)
Campus movie
The film depicts the campus life of a 1991 batch of students in flash back. It revolves around the suicide/ murder attempt on the hero of the film ( Prithviraj Sumumaran as P Sukumaran) during a college reunion 15 years afterwards. The campus politics, rivalry and the violence in a campus in Kerala is portrayed nicely. The real hero of the film is its script and direction. The performance of the cast is believable. The songs are meaningful and apt for the movie. The best part in the movie is of course the climax. The actor (Radhika) and the voice behind( Bhagyalakshmi I think) render the intensity which I found to be riveting. It is one of the must watch film in Malayalam language and probably the best so far in campus thriller genre.
