A Biltmore Christmas (2023)
Took me back to my childhood Romantic and Christmas movies from the 40's and 50's!
I've been waiting for this movie since I first saw the previews. Kristoffer Paloha and Bethany Joy Lenz are two of my very favorite actors, and their performances were better than my expectations! The writing was great, especially some of the twists. I'm very good at figuring out the plots, especially since Hallmark is generally quite formulaic, but it was very near the end before the lightbulb went off in my brain!
The costumes, makeup, hairstyles, etc. Were all great. An actress would appear on stage, and I would think, "She reminds me of Greta Garbo, Hedy Lamar, Ginger Rogers, or any of the blonde bombshells! I do hope the lead actors will continue making movies for Hallmark and Great American Family for years to come!
Great job to all involved!
Country Crush (2016)
The first song caught me by surprise!
This is one of those movies that you think you don't like, but at the end you're hating that it's over! The first time they broke into song, I was totally caught off guard. Luckily, I enjoy musicals! Definitely, the Hallmark formula was used, and the story is bit cliche; good verses evil, etc. But, the feelings are there, especially in the character Charlie.
I was expecting Kevin McGarry and Jana Kramer to have larger parts, but Munro Chambers, as Charlie, did a fantastic job. I hope to see him often In future movies. However, none of the characters are fleshed out enough.
I will definitely watch this again, but probably in a year or two.
Father Stu (2022)
Best movie I've seen in a long time.
I almost didn't watch because of the rating, but I looked it up and it was R mainly for language. The last half of the movie is electrifying, but you need the first part to get to the main course! Mark Wahlburg is fantastic, Mel Gibson, also! All the acting is excellent.
The humor slips in unexpectedly, and the viewer will be amazed at their own emotional response. Personally, there were scenes that renewed my Faith, others that made me laugh out loud, and some that brought tears, and perhaps a little doubt...the movie had artistic license, but at the end I believed the Father Stu story! This movie had to be made, especially today. My favorite this year for sure!
The Lost City (2022)
Enjoyable actors, rather dumb storyline.
Fun to watch actors, tongue in cheek drama. Immature adults will enjoy thoroughly! A couple of times I wanted to turn it off, but never could push the button, so watched the whole thing. I've seen each of these actors in much better roles, but always a pleasure seeing them!
No Sleep 'Til Christmas (2018)
Enjoyable movie with very good actors.
I actually started watching this because of the actors! Ioved Dave Annabel in Brothers and Sisters, as well as in Army Wives. I was not surprised to thoroughly enjoy this movie! Although I would not classify this as a Christmas movie as it is a movie that takes place in December. Odette Annabel is beautiful, and unlike so many married actor couples, these two have real chemistry on screen. And I didn't find anything offensive.
Christmas by Starlight (2020)
Well written by the lead actors!
Very enjoyable movie with believable actors! As an avid Hallmarkie, I did not miss the cutesy Hallmark standard encounters like the always interrupted attempts at a first kiss, starry night sky, snowball fight, gallons of cocoa, and building a snowman, which are highly overdone in most Christmas movies. A little ice-skating and hesitation before a possible kiss were the only typical nods to the Hallmark formula. Well written by the lead actors!
Christmas Waltz (2020)
Lovers of Musicals Will Find Love Here
I have watched this movie for the second time and enjoyed it even more this time around. The dancing was so good, it is easy to see Will Kemp is a professional dancer. And his personality was given scenes that allowed him to shine through. In my opinion, it was Kemp who stole the show!
I love the Chemistry between Lacey Chabert and Will Kemp. However, Lacey Chabert reminds me of the contestants on Dancing With The Stars who are better than you expected, but still can't make it into the top three or four. I appreciate that she was out of her comfort zone and tried her best, making the dance scenes enjoyable to viewers
This movie has a somewhat typical romantic Hallmark storyline. But that is why so many of us solid fans tune in! I will watch this several times, I am sure.
A Cowgirl's Story (2017)
Anther Teen Drama
Christian theme, this time incorporating the Afghanistan War as reason for the problems of several of the teens. Very slow and predictable at times. Not as good as a Hallmark Movie, but similar.
The Resident (2018)
Excellent cast keeps me coming back!
Good storyline, decent pace, excellent cast. Possible flaw could be the deviation into more of a murder mystery. Some scenes seem a little far fetched, but compared to many other newer shows, this one is well above average, though not near "ER's" first few years.
