Sintiéndolo mucho (2022)
Anecdotic documentary
Joaquín Sabina is one of the greatest Spanish musicians, and his lyrics have a complexity and beauty that are hard to describe without hear them and think deeply about their meaning. However, this documentary looks like a raw production, with many intrascendent moments and Joaquin speaking about different topics without any order (sometimes without any coherence).
I suppose that if you are a hard die fan, you can enjoy it feeling that you are there with the artists, his girlfriend and his mates. But it doesn't show anything relevant, don't explain anything. It is like a long and a bit tedious interview with many images from the last years. I wanted to learn more things about Joaquín, but the documentary don't helps you to do it in a meaningful way.
Toscana (2022)
Predictable romantic story
Toscana is a topical film about a person who is unhappy and travels to a remote place where discovers than lives is simpler than he thought and that love healths everything. It's not an original idea, bit you can do great things with it. Regrettably, the director doesn't do anything with this premise.
Toscana is not a bad film. Has a coherent story, the characters are rich and complex, and the scenarios are beautiful. But everything happens really fast, the complex story behind every character it's not developed and the main character has zero charisma. Moreover, the story has not one, but two millionaires that gives money like candy and destroy the feeling that this is a believable story.
In conclusion, the film is ok, and you could enjoy some parts, but it's not working like romance nor drama.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Not so funny, but neither bad
She-Hulk have a lot of good things. It has a great lead actress, some very good guests-stars (Hulk, Daredevil, Abomination, Wong...), some funny characters from the comics (Titania, Purcopine, el Aguila, Mr. Immortal...), humorous situations, super fights and some feminist reivindications. All this is great and I love it...
...but the series is a mess. It tries too hard to be funny, many episodes are slow and they lack connection, the 4th wall stuff just works in the last two episodes and many things happened because the story demanded it (why is Titania attacking the coirt in the first episode?, how can Abomination get transformed without police knowledge?). The end itself is a bit confussing -- KEVIN recibes a great deal of time, but you never understand what really happened.
All in all, is a passable series with good ideas, but (in muy humble opinion) they are not well developed.
Jennifer's Body (2009)
Good ideas, bad character's development
The film is really good in it's basic concept - a monster tale where the main character is not a victim, but the monster's bestie. It is a lot of fun and in some scenes have a refreshing feminist vibe. So long, so good.
So, what is the problem? The film starts to get really predictable in the last part. The monster start to be a 'normal' monster, the story lunch you some lesbian scene thought for the male viewers (and to show how depraved is the monster) and fimally the good girl and some friend destroy the monster. All the good ideas and concepts are forgotten to show a classic monster film.
If the story had develoe the characters in a less topical way, the film would had been a refreshing and really feminist. But in the end it was another film about a sexy monster.
The Vast of Night (2019)
Slow and boring without nothing new to show
I love SF and I have no problem with slow stories. But if the rhythm is slow, you need to tell me something: perhaps you flesh up the main characters, perhaps you build up the background to inderstand better the story.
The problem with this film is that I have the feeling that the rhythm is incredible slow because the director wants to show off. The recreation of a normal night in a small American town in the late 50s could be a great background, but when minute after minute pass and nothing occurs, you start to think if the director have a point or if anything of all this is really necessary. For me, it is not.
When the real story really started, I was so bored that I really don't care about it. Moreover, the story is nothing new os surprising. In the end, it is a pretentious Twlight Zone episode that never delivers.
Zone 414 (2021)
Good ideas but poorly developed
The film has some real interesting ideas and the rhythm is OK, but the lack of resources do no favor to the story. Many concepts are underdeveloped, and you have the feeling that some scenes could had been much better if the production had had more time and money. All in all, its an interesting film and you can enjoy it easily if you like Science Fiction.
Infinite (2021)
Nonsense action without a real story
The film has a short explanation about the world in the first minute. The presentation has some decent action, but when the main character appears everything goes definitely wrong. The story has so many holes, action scene make no sense most of the time and the characters (both, hero and villain) are not interesting enough. Of course, if you just want action, explosions and a good boy saving the day, you can enjoy the film. Buy if you want some story or character development, it is not for you.
I Am Not Okay with This (2020)
Did somebody say Carrie?
I wanted to enjoy this series, because it has many elements that I really like in a show - coming of age drama, self-discovering, main characters that are not cliché... But it is too slow and too obvious in some parts. You can feel that the story has to many similarities with Carrie, and you can imagine what is happening in the end. And some of the support characters are the classic stereotypes - the handsome jock, the absent parents... I don't know, perhaps it was not for me, perhaps was for teenagers that never have heard of Carrie.
Rim of the World (2019)
Stranger Thing Wannabe
A poor try to capitalize the "Stranger Things" popularity, just that the bad guys are aliens. The film is a joke but it's not really funny.
Project Almanac (2015)
Interesting, but...
I love time travel stories with their hard moral decisions, their paradoxes and unexpected twists. And I love good teen comedy/dramas – so it was a film I really wanted enjoy.
Don't get me wrong – I enjoyed it in some way. The camera work is something, characters are interesting and the story ir clearly the work of a big time travel fan.
But
I feel the story is incoherent in some points. I don't saying it just because some parts of the film didn't make sense, because I understand that time travel is tricky and I could have get lost, perhaps. I say it is incoherent because the development of the characters get wrong at some point. Their reactions, their way of confront the problems – they look like a cheap excuse to tell the story.
The changes the time travel makes are incoherent too. I understand that if you change some little details, it's possible to change big things. But I cannot believe everything the main character do have some terrible consequence. The director was railroading the story, perhaps because he didn't time to tell everything.
In conclusion, the idea and the characters are good, but the last part could had been better.
The English Teacher (2013)
A good story-- but it could have been better
I had contradictory feelings after watching the film.
On the one hand, the idea is interesting, characters are attractive, and some narrative tools (e.g., the narrator voice) are refreshing and imaginative.
On the other hand, many characters are underdeveloped (e.g., Halle is a key character but we never understand her), the story move forward to fast (How do Halle and Will accept the new ending? How does Miss Sinclair make up with her students?).
I liked this film and I recommend it to you if you want a different romantic comedy, but I think it could have been better.
Source Code (2011)
An entertaining film
'Source Code' is a enjoyable sci-fi adventure about time travel. The film just has a few characters and two locations, but it has a good rhythm and the actors do a good work.
However, the film has some important flaws. First at all, it remembers to much to 'Groundhog Day' (1993) in some parts. When the main character tries to do everything perfect at the end, it's impossible not to thing in the Bill Murray's character.
Second, the happy end doesn't work. This film is a good thriller and a interesting sci-fi story, but the end is just a fairy tale.
Finally, all the story is about how the hero survives his own dead. But the main character is usurping some else body! He is 'killing' somebody and stealing his life to survive. And he falls in love with a girl who really doesn't know. Actually, she is not in love with him - is in love with the man whose body is possessed by the main character. She is tricked to love him! In conclusion, it's an entertaining film but with some important flaws.
Hit & Miss (2012)
Too low for my taste
The general idea is really great. I like the characters, I love the concept and actors are really good... but I'm afraid that it didn't work for me.
In the first episode you have some action the first two minutes and more action the last five minutes, but you have a really low pace drama story in between. Too much family stuff and dysfunctional-but-lovely-children to my taste.
Don't misunderstand me-- It is a great production with really good actors and brilliant writers, but if you like stories with some rhythm and action you would have to search in another place.
