House of the Dragon: Second of His Name (2022)
Season 1, Episode 3
Could've been the Worst Episode, but then Daemon Saved It
5 September 2022
Most of the episode was too focused on drama that could've been glossed over in half the time it took to droll on and on about, and especially since it was mostly about creepy marriage proposals and animal abuse.

It did make its point very clear about traditions being unnatural, and sometimes even super weird, but it really stretched it out unnecessarily, we get it, time to move along with the plot (it wasn't padding, but it was close).

With the basic script given to them in the supplemental history book 'Fire and Blood' they do get to pick and choose which spots to fill in with more detail, and in this case they really failed, but... enter Daemon Targaryen, and what was possibly the best ending to an episode we've ever scene, and completely making up for the rest of it. Now I want to root for the bad guy (good thing I read the book when it came out and have already forgotten how this all turns out. GO AMNESIA!)

Good Show, Bad Casting
11 May 2022
It had some potential, just too bad they had to cast a bunch of unintelligible, lifeless actors and actresses. If singers can do it, actors should be able to tone down the thickness of their accents (some of you might want to put on the subtitles cuz it's sometimes really bad, especially Rand's). Let's just hope this is only the first of other attempts of bringing Robert Jordan's masterpiece to the screen, but I don't know how they're going to keep going with this current adaptation, being 14+ books in total.

The Batman (2022)

Quit Describing it as 'Dark' and get Yourself a Thesaurus
6 March 2022
Of course it's 'dark', it's Batman, it's in Gotham City, it's supposed to be 'dark', but did it need to be 3 dull hours, and since this Twilight Batman has zero personality it only made it that much more lifeless at times. Sure, it certainly could've been much worse, but it's ultimately a forgettable movie, and at least the Dark Knight movies had a lot of memorable movie moments. This recent attempt would've been better suited as a series for what it wanted to be, though it's not really that much darker or grittier than other Batman films. Tim Burton managed a nice mix while keeping his movies entertaining and fun, though slipping a bit in the 2nd movie, but the first movie proves that it can be done right. Consider this though, being a 3 hour movie this recent one could've been split into two movies, and in that scope I think the flaws would be a bit more apparent.

Did Anyone Else Fall Asleep?
20 December 2021
Never a good sign when a movie make you feel drowsy, but maybe I'm wrong since I haven't seen the whole thing yet , though I don't intend on watching the rest because the first half of this movie just wasn't very good at all.

I just really like that line and the scene right before when Chris Farley releases the skunks.

Worth Wathcing
20 February 2021
Don't listen to the negative Nancy's, this show is fun and at least worth checking out once (plus it won't take you very long being that there are only 8 episodes). Michael Richards is great in this, and not too far off at all from Kramer, which I think was a wise choice not to change what works and makes people laugh about his natural humor. The other characters are okay, and the writing is decent, but it certainly has the feeling of a show that wouldn't be around for very long, and it definitely reminds one of similar shows that didn't take and had a bit of a rushed feeling to them, like Norm Macdonald's show 'Norm', which was fortunate enough to get 3 seasons. Without Kramer Seinfeld would have never hit the stratosphere level that it did, and The Michael Richard's Show showcases some of what made Cosmo Kramer everyone's favorite Seinfeld character and had, and still has, them laughing out loud at his silly, yet brilliant, antics.

Joker (I) (2019)

9.5 if I could, but Joaquin Phoenix easily gets a 10
8 October 2019
Didn't watch a single preview before seeing it, and I think that made the experience a bit better for me personally as I really had no idea which way the story was going, and with this particular movie that might've been the best scenario because I felt movie took me more along for a ride of the unexpected rather than the traditional and predictable. With prior knowledge of the movie (which probably most people have before their first viewings, especially nowadays) I might have had a much different experience and not have liked it nearly as much. I have a hard time giving anything a 10 or a 0, but if I could I'd give it a 9.5, and since it's clearly getting it's well deserved respect I don't really feel that I need to help slightly boost the consensus rating for this terrific movie that will go down as one of the greatest ever as it's likely to stay right under a 9.0 which would put it higher than almost any other movie rated here.

Castlevania: For Love (2018)
Season 2, Episode 7
10/10
'This' episode.
25 March 2019
When I was browsing the ratings for the season 2 episodes the fact that episode 7 'For Love' had such a high rating (9.5) as well as nearly twice the amount of people rating compared to the other episodes obviously stuck out to me. I figured I was in for an awesome episode, and I was kinda wrong because it was well above 'awesome' in so many ways. What ended up happening in the episode as far as the plot goes was nearly perfect, though as a human being that naturally gets their hopes up I was imagining a epic and deep story line, and as regular reader of books I'm typically not very impressed with what is missed out in that department when it comes to movies and TV series. But like I mentioned it couldn't have been much better despite my usual bias perspective.

What made this episode stand out the most though were the incredibly done action sequences, and not only were they visually stunning but were also well thought out (which is commonly something that is lacking in many other animated scenarios where amazing visuals are too heavily relied upon).

Though I know there are always tons of quality Japanese animated shows out there (a seemingly endless supply actually) I still miss animated movies and shows in general and hope that the future will have more shows like this and less of the computer generated lifeless characters that completely seemed to take over American animation.

True Detective: Now Am Found (2019)
Season 3, Episode 8
10/10
Too many crybabies aren't satisfied with this awesome ending.
26 February 2019
Season 3 of True Detective is by far the best season, and didn't even have to resort to many of the things that premium channels in many of their exclusive shows use to make their shows more edgy and add unnecessary shock value (like they did often in past seasons of this show).

That being said, I was expecting a different kind of conclusion too, but this ending took me by surprise and even exceeded my expectations in most regards, and the show's intention wasn't to please my assumptions about where the plot was headed, or yours for that matter. Those who can't see the brilliance in this ending have a delusion of feeling that they are entitled to what they want, and are of course kind of dumb for thinking so, especially with this being such a great ending to the best season of such a great show. A 'feel good' ending can still be a good ending folks, especially when the production team does an amazing job telling the multi tiered story and somehow tying it all together in a final episode that often had me wondering how they were ever going to be able to pull it off (even over half way through the episode 'before' the last plot twist that finalized everything).

*Side note: Though the show only briefly mentions it and not part of the actual plot as it unfolded at the end, look up 'The Franklin Coverup' (AKA 'The Conspiracy of Silence). I was really hoping that this was going to be discussed more in the show as it is something that not too many people have ever heard of, and looked as if it was going to be a major part of the plot in the final episode, but likely was mostly thrown in simply for the sake of striking interest with people and then them looking it up to see more about it. This seems to be a ploy of HBO (which is fine in my book because it needs to be known and not just swept under the rug) as it discredits and reveals a lot of the dirty secrets of the Republican party from a very questionable past, and likely still goes to some extent today and never ceased since corruption and disgusting human behavior is obviously still abundant among the political puppets who operate under the threat of blackmail. This is one that was supposed to be fully hushed and done away with, but some copies of the documentary that aired over 20 years ago on the Discovery Channel have resurfaced and can even be found on YouTube. The show was set to air until particular people urged them not to and even paid a lot of money to keep the finished product from ever being seen by the public.

This is another part of what will make this season of TD a timeless classic, and we should be grateful for whoever decided to through this tidbit of information out there for us. Yes the world and its human occupants know no limit of corruption and evil, and that's the reality of our situation here, always has been and always will, but there is also beauty and good that greatly outweighs all of that and will win mightily in the end, and this season of TD shows that to us and gives us some hope in humanity, where others simply want to throw in the towel and demand endings that are closer to how empty and hopeless they feel inside.

The Few Negative Reviews are Baffling
31 December 2018
Don't listen to the haters and critics, this movie is brilliant, innovative, and is a peak into what some movies and shows might possibly evolve into in coming years. Very one of a kind, and anyone who is disappointed for any reason obviously has a very low IQ and/or very limited perspective and knowledge on the subjects that this movies delves heavily into. Is free will an illusion? That's a yes and no answer, but to keep it short it is for more than most people, and changing it isn't as easy as one might assume, and exercising that power will often lead to insanity (at least in the eyes of society). Fate can be changed, but you will have to likely change some of the things about yourself that your were not supposed to be able to change, and then run hard from there and never ever look back.

Don't Listen to the Negative Critics
25 December 2018
As a fan who has read the book 3 times, loved the 1978 movie, and very much influenced by the overall message of this story to the point of volunteering a lot of my time at animal shelters and fostering/adopting unadoptable rabbits, I can honestly say that I am very happy with this new adaptation of the story and am glad it will likely influence many of the next generation. Understanding that we need to try to do a much better job sharing the world with the countless other lifeforms that inhabit it with us goes much further than changing one's eating habits and annoying people with those personal perspectives. The message gets through very clearly in this new take on a brilliant story that Mr. Adams came up with to tell his kids on long car trips, and is amazing how it's evolved to what it is has after so many years and been a story that all rabbit lovers truly cherish.

They did not change much to the story at all, small details perhaps are different but nothing to make even the longest tenured fan the slightest bit upset. Unfortunately 'certain' human beings will still probably find 'something' to complain about since that's what they do best when it comes to movie and book reviews, and I'm also proving that by complaining about them in particular, but let me assure you there is very little to bicker or whine about.

We have so much potential, and though we do show a lot of that potential quite often and keep that hope of a better world alive, we more often than not go in the complete opposite direction collectively at an exponential rate and leave our mark on the earth like a wildfire.

Tries too hard to be great
14 October 2018
It wasn't bad, but good might be a bit of a stretch. Perhaps had too much inspiration from other movies and directors, and casting Thor came close to ruining it altogether. Overdid it on the music and singing too.

Westworld: The Passenger (2018)
Season 2, Episode 10

Don't Listen to the Haters
1 July 2018
There are simply going to be people who can't grasp the complexity and deeper meaning to this show and this season. They are the ones who will give this episode and/or season a 1/10, and they are the intellectually deprived, some of which wanted it to be as overly exciting as season 1 and can't stand to see something they love slowed down a bit to get to the underlying messages and meanings of the overall show. This show is about us, and we are the robots who are starting to learn about our true nature, current limitations, and infinite potentials. Watch season 2 over again with this in mind and all of the conversations and plots will have new meaning and make a lot more sense to anyone who is having trouble figuring out what is going on. This is much bigger than a TV show and entertainment, and you are being given major clues and hints about yourself that no one ever bothered to give you before (unless you've been searching for and found those answers unfettered by the shackling devices of religion, society, school and education). Unlearning and relearning are much more difficult of tasks compared to the original programming that was done when your brain was a clean slate ripe and ready for that chisel of manipulation, and now to erase that brain washing you have to do some major cleaning, and it can become quite a tedious mess trying to do so.

No Expectations = Enjoyable Experience
3 August 2017
I've been looking forward to seeing this movie for a few years, I've read all the books including the more recent one ('The Wind Thru the Keyhole') and other books that Walter appeared in. It's currently 2017, and anyone who hasn't learned the 'book to movie' lesson by now needs to finally learn it so that they can also enjoy movies what they are, which is an extra bonus for a book that is well liked by a lot of people. If the movie actually turns out good than all the better, but being more realistic about movies not having to live up to the books they're based on is best thing to do so you don't end up like the rest of these bitter people who leave the movie theater as quickly as possible just to come back home and write a 'nerd'tastic negative one starred review expressing all their deep down inner angst in the most pathetic form possible. Luckily I beat many of them to the punch before they tore this fun and entertaining movie apart, and I did find it entertaining thanx to having zero expectations about it, go ahead and try it next time you go to a similar movie, you'll at least temporarily enjoy yourself. Whining and complaining about trivial things isn't good for you or anyone else anyways.

I thought they did a fairly good job considering all the various challenges that this potential movie presented them, and the fact that it at one point seemed like it may never even get released or get just get much further delayed didn't make the project seem as promising as it did when first hearing about it's production a few years back for the first time. I got my expectations up very high when I first heard about it, but as time went on I would settle for just about anything decent, and 'decent' it sure was, though I'll rate the movie a 10 to make up for one or two reviews from the Negative Nancys of IMDb. I'm happy to see that Sony left this open for a sequel, It's still not a for sure thing if they'll make another, though King seems to think they will, but I'd pay a lot of money to see a movie based of the backstory from 'Wizard and Glass'.

Bottom line: Have fun, it's a fun movie whether you have read the books or not. Not a bad choice for the kids either, lot of action, no nudity, and not much cussing from what I recall, (12+ is my guess depending on who you are, ratings can be deceiving).

If you haven't read the books: Read them if you're an avid reader, you won't regret it, but if you're just an average reader then the 8 books will take you far too long to get thru and you'll probably give up and have wasted a lot of time trying. One trick is just to be disciplined enough to read every single day if possible, and it doesn't even have to be much because it will add up over the course of year, and if you were to read 10 - 15 pages per day every day you'd be able to finish 'The Dark Tower' series within one year. (Quick easy formula: 365 days per year, very roughly 365 pages per book, so 5 pages per day will get you thru 5 books per year, and not difficult at all to make that 40 pages per day, and at the end of the year you will have read 40 BOOKS! Probably more books than you've ready in your life, just got to form the habit first and go from there, keep track with a notebook to stay disciplined if you have to).

Other King suggestions: 'The Shining' Even better than the movie, and possibly underrated because of the movie's popularity, and the fact most people are too lazy to read.

'The Eyes of the Dragon' Walter is a main character, and King once again digs into the darkness of the man's psyche while weaving a great story in Medieval times.

'The Stand' The ultimate apocalyptic adventure with Walter doing what he does best, and the fate of the lives of dozens of different characters all linked to Walter thru their dreams of him, and has 1000 or so pages to all find each other and come together to somehow stop him while avoiding much betrayal and many obstacles along the beaten path that is led and aided by their other dreams of another character who is out to help them find where they need to be going.

'Different Seasons' No, it's not a story about a possessed spice rack) This book includes four novellas (short novels). Most of you will recognize of 2 or 3 of the others as those were all turned into good movies ('The Shawshank Redemption' 'Apt Pupil' and 'The Body' AKA 'Stand By Me'), and just as is usually the case are far superior to the films, and not that the films are bad at all.

It's just the reality that books always beat movies, it's no contest at all, but movies are a time for us to do something unproductive and be happy while doing it. So don't be like these sad saps who would actually pay for a movie knowing very well that they'll not have a good time. One of the secrets to life is 'to have a good time when you're able to', and if you like to laugh at bad movies that are trying to be serious then you need to finally get yourself on the MST3K and Rifftrax bandwagon.
