Beaches (2017)
Painful
It was physically painful to watch such a pathetic attempt to update a classic movie. The acting, the music, the story line were all complete failures. I was embarrassed for the two leads throughout. The update focused on all the minor aspects of the original and missed the essence. This is a remake that should never have been made. I need to watch the original to get this horror out of my mind.
Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party (2016)
Will Entertain and enthrall Trumkins. Intelligent People Will Stay Away.
When I watched the fingernails-on-the-chalkboard awful reenactments at the beginning of this movie, I actually thought that this must be a spoof or a extended Saturday Night Live Skit. Horrible cinematography, no attempt at acting, and dialogue that was written by someone who just learned to talk. Imagine my surprise when I realized this was supposed to be a serious documentary. Now, don't get me wrong, I think the mentally disabled should be allowed to express themselves in film, but there should be a disclaimer attached. I noted that there might be spoilers because, even though the material in this film is supposed to be factual, even historians will be surprised at the information and conclusions drawn by this very unfortunately termed documentary. I didn't want to spoil the surprise for them. It would escape no one that this film was solely made to discredit Hillary Clinton before the 2016 Presidential Election. What does surprise me is that there are people feeble-minded enough to, not only take this garbage film seriously, but allow it to influence or even justify their vote. You can't Make America Great Again when this sewage is taken seriously by anyone. There is one very strong conclusion that can be drawn from this embarrassing film (I mean no disrespect to anyone by calling it a film), and that is the fact it was financed, made, released, and patronized indicates a huge deficiency in our education system in this country. I tried to use a lot of big words so the people that liked this film won't get mad.
Once Upon a Time (2011)
Enjoyable
OMG! The actor who plays Henry is so bad, every time he has a scene that is supposed to be emotional is just hysterical. By now, you'd think they would have sprung for some acting lessons. It's just too hard to believe that the producers don't see this. Fortunately, a lot of this show is tongue and cheek, so all this bad acting isn't as gut wrenching as it could have been. That being said, the show is more original than most currently airing, and is one of the few the whole family can watch together. The constant introduction of new characters makes it especially interesting for children. Very bad acting aside, OUAT is enjoyable fare.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again (2016)
Let's NOT Do The Time Warp Again
Well, it was very rocky, it definitely was a horror, it tried to be a picture, but unfortunately was never a show. I guess one good thing, this will always stand as how not to remake a movie musical (for TV or otherwise). The producers missed every mark in this remake: casting, music, writing, production, and execution. People who enjoy the original will find this version joyless and completely devoid of merit. Those who have never seen the original will come off wondering what all (or any) of the fuss was about. Everything that made the original campy and fun was evacuated completely from this version. The actors (and that term can only be used loosely) ruined the movie. Not a single hit in the bunch. The music, quite simply, was overproduced. The story, trimmed mercilessly to allow for extra-long commercial breaks. And, the insight provided in snippets by cast and crew, completely useless and often completely wrong. Fox would have been much better off just rerunning the original and adding interviews with the original stars of other little known information about the production. This, as they say in the movie business, was a complete bomb.
Nerve (2016)
Lotta Nerve
It takes a lotta nerve for a studio to put up the funding to make a piece of crap like this. I can't imagine anyone over 12 years old even relating to a half-baked story like this. And when will the youngest generation rebel at being portrayed as self-centered, arrogant ignoramuses in movies? Unless it really is true that every teen wants to become famous by doing incredibly stupid things and then broadcasting it to the rest of the world. Wall-E was far more prophetic (and vastly more enjoyable). And does anyone else find Emma Roberts' constant whining in everything she is in annoying? Watch The Net for a much more relatable cautionary tale. Watch Nerve if you want a substandard rehashing of a low self-esteem teen only being able to find solace by posting her now incredibly misguided attempt at self-empowerment online (but still failing) and viola - a happy ending.
Conviction (2016)
No Conviction
Too many shows are being patterned after Shondaland crap now. Because it only takes about 7 million viewers for shows to be considered hits now, Shonda Rimes' low brow schlock are getting far more credit and attention than they deserve and, as is always the case with Hollywood, too many copycats. This show, however, is even deeper in the muck than How To Get Away With Murder. I guess if a viewer is indiscriminate enough to believe the premise, then pretty much anything goes for the story line. Convicted Coke-head becomes head of NYC elite conviction unit "as a punishment for her crimes." Really? If she would have shot a black man, would she have been made CEO of a corporation? I guess she didn't lose her law license for her crimes either. Even disregarding all that, the cases they take on are so disappointingly unremarkable, she is so overwhelmingly self-involved and unlikable, and the supporting players are so cliché, that watching this show was like my punishment for a crime I didn't commit.
Timeless (2016)
Pointless
Another run of the mill network program touted as innovated and unique. Unfortunately, it is just another example of a good idea with very poor execution. Everything here is mediocre at best: the writing, acting, effects, historical accuracy and scientific basis. It is just another throwaway series. Too bad that the networks, who seemingly have superior resources and experience, are constantly out-performed by small cable channels and streaming services. I expect them to completely disappear in a year or two if they can't turn this around. Or sink to even deeper levels of desperation by relying even more on the lowest of the low brow reality schlock they are all becoming famous for.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
Brain Dead
Like most here, I thought this show would bring a different perspective to TWD universe by further explaining the infection and what the Gvt, Universities, etc. are doing to stop it. The characters in this show hardly seem to notice the dead. Ironic that all the writers of TWD series can express is that, even after a cataclysmic infection changed a major chunk of the population into zombies, the real danger is from the survivors. We get that. And, all the members of that stupid dysfunctional family that we have been following since the beginning are now paramilitary leaders incapable of making the simplest decision (a leap even for a show of this low caliber). I think the only reason they survive is that zombies feed on brains and they offer no nutritional value to them. The mother has got to be the most ridiculously written character of all-time in TV. She always ends up a leader yet continues to make decisions and do things that bring peril to the entire group she is with. I guess maybe we are enticed to tune in because so many of us here would like to see her succumb to the infection. This actress would do much better in that role. As for the series, it is simply evolving into a much less interesting version of TWD with no characters to root for. And really, do we need all the subtitles?
Better Things (2016)
Better Shows
It isn't Avant-Garde to make a comedy that isn't funny. This show isn't the least bit funny. I for one am tired of seeing kids in these shows act like monsters and the grown ups just accepting it. This show takes that and everything else to the most horrendous extreme. There isn't a single moment by a single character in this show that isn't annoying. I just find it impossible to believe that neither the makers of this crap not the network that airs it didn't notice how awful this show is when they previewed it. The most pathetic thing is that the actors in this show try so hard, and overact so much, it is painfully obvious that they recognize how awful this material is. Stop the bleeding and cancel this train-wreck before careers are ruined.
