Echo (2023)
I'm worried about Daredevil
I really liked the tv serie Hawkeye, Echo was an interesting character, and so, I was looking forward to watching this. I read the news about this serie, so I knew to tone down my expectations.
They put warnings, they confirmed that the Netflix Marvel shows were canon. Echo is supposed to follow the same equation. It's a first taste for what's to come.
The introduction of magic was so out of nowhere, it reminded me of Iron fist with how useless and stupid it was. The characters kept making stupid decisions, ESPECIALLY THE ENEMIES, nothing made sense, you're supposed to turn your brain off. The music was cringe at times, it totally kills the serious tone the serie is trying so hard to maintain.
Episode 3 was so infuriating, It seriously reached the same amount of cringe you get when watching Madame web's trailer.
If you want to know who Maya is, just watch Hawkeye. At least that's a show that doesn't take itself too seriously and yet it still managed to be way better and grounded than Echoes.
It Follows (2014)
interesting
I remember the first time I saw this movie, I thought it was the most boring movie ever. But that's what's good about rewatching movies and tv series. Sometimes you experience the story differently.
I enjoyed the movie, the pacing was actually ok. The most positive aspect though, was how the characters were smart enough to survive. And they communicated.
The reason I rewatched It Follows? The movie Smile... As I was watching it, I realized that the experience wasn't boring, but infuriating. So it made me think, was I too hard on It Follows? The answer is yes. This one is superior in every aspect.
Smile (2022)
Nothing, I'm fine.
This movie reminded me of the tv serie "From". Where the characters just refuse to explain anything, they keep every important detail to themselves, share the bare minimum and then they are shocked that things went sideways.
This main character could have dealt with all of this in a better way, if only she would say something other than "nothing I'm fine" then, run away when someone actually is listening and wants to help... no wonder the monster is smiling, it keeps finding idiots.
This movie made me reconsider my stance towards "It Follows". It wasn't scary, but it was a new thing, and fun in it's own way. Unlike this movie, every thing was just a copy past, nothing original, every bit predictable.
I do not recommend,
The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
I do not recommand
Here is how I would describe this show;
Feels like a fanfiction, made by someone who read and watched articles/movies about the real events behind the Opioid crisis, so they wanted to make their own version with spooooky elements to it.
This is like a kid dressing their dolls and telling you that he has a scary story for you, he just watched a movie last night so he copies the events but adds his new elements to it to make it horror. So you're sitting there, with he fake smile. Waiting for the moment you can finally go back home.
I would rather recommend watching adaptations of the real Opioid crisis.
I didn't like it, not because it was boring, and not scary. I know horror can mean a lot of things, and I enjoy the "boring" kind a lot, AS LONG AS THE STORY IS GOOD. Like say Midnight Mass for example.
Talk to Me (2022)
Interesting idea, enjoyed it until the end
My issue with horror movies, is how many times they start good, and it makes you happy, anticipating a good time. But most of the time they just give up midway and destroy the ending: They make the characters stupid, things doesn't make sense, goes full action mode with cringe dialogue, etc....
I don't think that was the case for this movie. The idea was really interesting, they give you hints, they don't spoon-feed anything, if you pay attention you'll have all the answers. You'll understand what happened and why, and you'll know the true nature of that hand, what it's purpose is.
Most of the time, the more I'm looking forward to watch a horror movie the more it's bound to be bad lol (probably because the trailer has all the good parts...) . I'm glad it wasn't the case this time. The trailer was good, the movie was good.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
This movie made me so angry I had to vent
My god was it bad. It was pure generic and the only things it was counting on is "hey it's a super mario movie woohoo" I know it's for kids, I watch animation movies all the time. I played supermario, zelda, donkey kong. And didn't expect something awesome. At best a 6/10 movie. This movies doesn't deserve a 7. It's bad, and there shouldn't be a sequel. Now because I have some characters required to post this review, I'l say it again and again, that this movie is bad, I had a rare free time and thought watching it would be a good idea, but it just made me livid because I wasted my time, didn't even finish it.
