Halo: Aleria (2024)
Love The Game! Hate The Show!
I hated the first season entirely. I didn't think there were any redeeming parts of the show. But I have FOMO so I kept watching - hoping it would turn around and become something closer to the game series I spent hundreds of hours playing as a teen. And that's why I kept watching up until now.
I will admit that there have been a few fleeting moments where they'll show a battle scene that will make me think the show is about to morph into the show I want to watch. But then the episode's credits roll and next week begins with more boring drama about characters I couldn't care less about. So I have finally decided to stop watching the show. I invested enough time waiting around for it to get good. If you're anything like me, I'm sure you can relate. If you're more like the people who rate this show as 10/10, keep buying from your current dealer because they are obviously supplying you with some good stuff! I'm actually kind of jealous.
The Iron Claw (2023)
Not Bad, True Story Is Better
I am a wrestling fan and I think that ruined the enjoyment of the film. I knew a lot of things (the drug use, the mental illnesses, the existence of the youngest brother Chris) about the actual story that the film left out or glossed over. But I will say the cast did a great job (even if everyone other than Zac Efron didn't look like the people they were portraying - I mean, these were monster men in real life and the actor they got to portray Kerry looked nothing like him). I was also expecting more emotional weight but the movie wasn't nearly long enough to truly cover the immense tragedy of the Von Erichs. However, if you're not a wrestling fan? You'll probably find this to be a beautiful film.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Don't Let The "Woke" Complaints Fool You
I never realized just how many Trekkies hated what the show stood for: progress. I'm not a Trekkie but I can tell you that I've watched the first 3 episodes of the show (all that have been released at time of writing) and thoroughly enjoy it. The stories wrap up in a single episode, the set designs, special effects, makeup, wardrobe, and overall production values are top notch. The writing is adequate at worst and very good most of the time. The fact that there seems to be representation of more than just straight, white males doesn't strike me as "woke" or a bad thing. But I'll grant you that if you're looking for an all-white, all-heterosexual cast of characters...you'll be disappointed. (Or in the case of all these bad reviews: you'll be bitter and resentful of the world passing you by.)
The Girl from Plainville: Talking Is Healing (2022)
Filler episode; Entirely skippable
There is little to none in the way of new developments that happen in this episode. As is quickly becoming the norm with new mini-series across all streaming platforms, much of this episode is little more than filler to pad out the total number of episodes.
Ghislaine: Partner in Crime (2022)
Waste of time
If you've paid any attention to this case at all over the last 3 years, you'll already know everything this documentary offers. What it really wastes your time on is telling you about Ghislaine's personality and relationships with her family. They spend so much time on telling you things that aren't relevant to the alleged abuses that at times it seems like it was made by those who have Ghislaine's best interests in mind. Don't waste your time on this if you're looking for a compelling documentary series - because you won't find it here.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: Interesting People on Christopher Street (2022)
4 Episodes In And Nothing's Happening
The cinematography, the acting, the sets, the clothes are all as perfect as they have ever been. Only one thing is wrong: this was a show about a girl who was becoming a stand up comedienne. We are now 4 episodes in to this season and so far all she's done is a few segues in between burlesque performers. This wouldn't be a red flag if the seasons were 22 episodes long. But they're not. We're halfway through this season and nothing is happening with Midge's career. What's happening to my favorite show?
For Heaven's Sake (2021)
Waste of Time
The amateur investigators are awkward to watch at times. And you get to the end...
They don't find anything. It's a waste of time to watch.
Fighting with My Family (2019)
Throwaway Film
Bad comedy. They didn't stick to the true story as much as they could have. Lots of cringeworthy moments. Bad soundtrack. Not all it's hyped up to be.
Operation Dumbo Drop (1995)
Time Waster
This movie is predictable and, unfortunately, boring. It's a time sucker.
