Earthen Aerie (1995)
hand painted beauty
One of Stans later works, done with a style done mainly by him in-which he hand paints onto the film, the main feature of the film seems to come from its use of colour, the images set the pace. This hand-painted, step-printed film begins with several seconds of blank white (interrupted by red and brief electric yellow) and then proceeds to multiply flecked earth and rock shapes and root-like forms which seem to suck horizontally inward and upward midst phosphorescent greens and blues increasingly flecked with light-yellows giving way to tree-top branch likenesses taking oblique shape against a phosphor sky. Esential for those interested in Brakhage's work or experimental film.
Gogs Ogof (1996)
whatever happened to Gogs
whatever happened to Gogs, they were brilliant, funny little stop motion cavemen getting into trouble. Gogs Ogof is a mini short following in the fashion of the TV show, in which the Gogs face an earthquake and are all in all confused by it all. Gogs even though just as superior to its other counterpart stop motion pictures, never seemed to manage to get anywhere, which is a real shame seeing as these shorts and the full length episodes, were some of the best examples of quality mid 90's stop motion. work similar to this has been made in Wallace & Gromit & morph but towards the end of the 90's stop motion seemed to slowly die off, hopefully it will be revived again.
