Somewhat disappointing achievement for George
10 March 2008
I think Zombie movies are some of the best forms of entertainment in the movie business. George is of course, the king of this genre. Its a shame his new instalment to his zombie collection is so ...... blah! The quality of the zombies, the gore and the blood shed is as premium as you would expect from George. I really enjoyed the running theme of the wise, strong black man included in all of his films, which is followed through in this one (the national guard solder). The comedy value that zombies have to offer was sadistic as usual.

However, the story line was uninspired, and rather dull. The acting was wooden, apart from an excellent injection of good English acting from the Professor.

Its entertaining, but don't expect to much from it... Its earns its place at the bottom of George's pile of Zombie movies. Shame...

Better than I#d EXPECTED
18 February 2008
This is a really sensitive topic for a movie to undergo, and they do it with style. What was interesting was the way Juno was portrayed, she has some great comedy moments, quick whit and good morals. A misunderstood girl beyond her years, however, there are moments when her true age shows in her naivety. Especially when she lets herself get to close to people in situations beyond her understanding. This whole movie is like a rite of passage for Juno and she never losses sight of who she is. Michael Cera, I do enjoy watching. He rocked in Superbad, but he plays the same character (only less funny) in Juno. He is in danger of type casting himself. Although, despite this he was enjoyable to watch and added to the class of this movie.

The good news and the bad...
9 February 2008
Always starting with the bad news... It is well within the shadow of its predecessor, and it doesn't have the thrill and magic the first movie displayed. Ben Gates's father seems to be played like a bumbling old man, which is confusing when he was previously played as a strong, proud character in the first movie. And what was it with the British accents, why were they sounding like they were just off the set of Oliver Twist! Very few of us Brits talk like that.

The good news is... A sufficient amount of interesting conspiracy theories, puzzles and treasure make the mouth water, but it does get a little dry during the over played car chasing and action scenes. A nice amount of humour stops your mind from straying and the hints of a third movie really makes you want to know more.

On a separate note, doesn't Nick Cage look old?...

A new genre is born
2 February 2008
When the film ended in the cinema, the audience was silent. Amongst the silence all I good hear were "that was brilliant" or "wow" comments. I have to agree with them!! It shows that a movie doesn't have to have a detailed story line or background explaining origins, to entertain you. It was a movie made purely for the viewers experience, you are on the journey with them and know all they know as they try to understand the situation. The camera work makes you feel a little dodgy at first, but you get use to it. I must say that the editing to make a big budget monster movie look amateurish was inspired. This monster really puts Godzilla to shame! The look of it is very different to my preconceptions to what it was like. I am disappointed at people who expected more from this movie (in terms of the story). Nothing else was needed, you are meant to use your imagination and fill in the gaps. That is what makes this movie great because it was different.

Enjoyed every minute of it
27 January 2008
When I first watched this movie in the cinema when it was released I loved it then and saw it twice. I unfortunately forgot about it until I saw it again on TV tonight. How could I have forgotten? It is truly one of the best big box office movies that is actually funny. Clever humour, good morals (eventually), and plenty cheesy one liners that makes it a one of a kind amongst the many hundreds of slapstick US movies. I love how the movie demonstrates to us that the crazy gene does not discriminate between class and bank accounts, and we should all except our families with a sense of humour. I think any woman wouldn't mind if either of them crashed their wedding.

Fancy a mince meat pie?
26 January 2008
This movie certainly doesn't smell as bad as Mrs Lovett's chimney! Unusual lyrics, gloomy sets and Helena Bonham Carter, is all you need for another triumph from Tim Burton. The movie wastes no time in jumping straight into the dark and depressing story of Sweeny Todd. Depp and Carter play their roles with a passion that allows the viewer to actually care about murderous baker and barber. The chemistry between them shines through the gloomy story line with room for some sadistic little chuckles on the way. They are obviously not the greatest of singers, but do a descent job of it, and are helped by other (well cast) characters with exceptional vocals. It ends rather abruptly, which leaves you hanging for a moment while you realise the credits are rolling and leaves you rather put of from meat pies for at least a couple of months!

Nothing to write home about
26 January 2008
The reviews regarding this flick state that it will leave a rather bad taste in your mouth. Does this film really deserve this ear bashing? It isn't an Oscar winning performance, perhaps not even worth a Nickelodeon award, but does deliver what you would expect.

If you enter the cinema expecting a lot of Alien bashing, human slaughter and stereotypical American characters, you'll be satisfied with the result. I didn't expect much, and it does do a good job of keeping your eyes peeled to the screen.

One thing that I and my film buddies saw is that it copies a lot of characters and plot from Aliens! Which we thought was a little cheeky! It had the potential to add a little extra to the ever growing Alien/Predator saga. Although, what helps to earn it points was the obvious connections it wrote in with the other Alien movies. The circle is now complete!

A good one for children. With an interesting line up
15 January 2007
This movie is very imaginative with it use of effects and the story is effective in entertain children. The cinema roared with the sound of children laughing at the funny expressions made by Williams and Stiller. In some places the humour was directed at all age groups to enjoy, but was basic at best.

The movie seemed to be a little hollow in terms of character building and the story line basic and plainly obvious (but again its a movie for the children, so thats understandable). There are some great cameos such as Owen Wilson and Steve Cogan, who for me were the savours of the film. They have great chemistry on screen.

The main problem with this movie was something I thought would be the most interesting. Ricky, playing the museum director. Has he ever heard of the word 'typecasting' before. He is a very funny man, but played the same role as he does in the Office and Extras. This seemed more boring than funny. I didn't crack a smile once when he was on screen.

Visually beautiful and worth every penny
7 January 2007
It is obvious Mel had a particular look in mind regarding this film. The actors portray a stunning, yet disturbing account of life in Maya. There are no excuses for the portrayal of the gruesome methods used in those days and Mel is honest in his demonstration. Because of this your eyes won't deviate from the screen.

It begins with a life in the wild, bloody scene that immediately introduces the viewer to the intense and graphic content contained in the film. Giving the viewer a chance to leave, if they're squeamish.

The one grip I have with this film is, I can't help but wonder why these people were shown in a biased sense. Referring to there famous sacrificial and bloody thirsty side. The Mayan's were a beautiful and highly intelligent (advanced even) people.

I say if your intending to watch this movie, don't watch it through the eyes of western society. See the Mayan's as they truly were, unique and superstitious.

A great combination of blood and humour
7 January 2007
I am an original fan of Rob's, 'House of a 1000 corpses' and I was very excited at the prospect of a sequel. I loved the quirkiness of his first movie and was expecting the same format with this one. However, I was pleasantly surprised when seeing this western/chase movie, which follows the firefly's and their blood lust while on the run.

It is important for a movie to allow the viewer to care for the characters and want them to prosper over their counterparts. Devil's Rejects slowly convinces you and eventually you want the serial killing family to win and for them to kill all the good guys. How many movies can do that? There are some great one-liners in this movie. So, take a pen and paper and write them down! They are hilarious as well as disturbing, all at the same time.

Definitely one for horror and slasher genre!

An interesting concept, but could have done more.
6 January 2007
This movie has the potential to be a good horror. However, the typical flashing, grey type ghosts and predictable scares are disappointing. Why Hollywood continues to make high-budget horrors with these effects baffles me? They aim at viewers with weak dispositions rather than real horror fans. Hollywood needs to have a good look at foreign horror films and learn a lesson.

Nathan gives a good performance and in my opinion is the back bone to the entire movie. If they expanded on the dogmatic storyline a little more, it could have been more interesting.

I recommend this movie as a 'no-brainer' horror flick that will leave you fairly satisfied.

The boys can still act, and act well. The comic duet brings this story to life.
22 April 2006
I for one, really enjoyed this film. The story is well written and keeps you interested throughout. Ant and Dec make you care about these characters, no matter how annoying they might seem. Sometimes the story seems to good be to good to be true for these guys, which can sometimes make it seem unbelievable. However, it explains the story of the apparent hoax well. For anyone who remembers watching Jonathon Frakes on the Sci-fi channel those years ago, its a could trip down memory lane. The movie doesn't try to convince you that a tape like this doesn't exist, which keeps people's faith in ET still as really as it was before you enter the cinema. All sci-fi fans should check this film out. Its worth watching because of the comic acting of our beloved Ant and Dec pair. Well done guys!
