Then Came You (2020)
Easy watching, but left me unfulfilled
This review contains a few spoilers.
So, I just watched 'Then Came You'. How do you have a romance movie where the main characters don't even kiss??? Not even a peck? They have sexually innuendo jokes, premarital sex, drinking, but no kiss/kissing? That kept the chemistry from being complete. It could have been believable of them as a couple, imho.
I have it 4 stars for the easy watch, the beautiful countryside, great singing/ music, and I like the actors. However the story line just seems lacking, very slow at times, the break up was way too easy, and
rushed/forced at the end with no true climax. Ugh, I was so disappointed.
Not the worst, and nowhere near quite good.
The Matchmaker's Playbook (2018)
I enjoyed this movie immensely
Glad I didn't check out the reviews, because I really enjoyed this movie. Funny story, I watched this thinking it was a hallmark movie...LOL...so NOT a hallmark movie.
I like when they broke the 4th wall and bell whenever he winked, the first kiss...I could feel the chemistry between the two, and the jealousy. Just a fun movie.
The Dragon Prince (2018)
Netflix MUST continue this series
I am an adult who has never watched the last air-bender except for the Real-life one. That being said, I had no expectations for this one. I loved it!
Great Humor, great story-line, Relevant language for the times, and decent animation. (thats why a nine- in some spots it seemed characters were floating, and others choppy/blurry) and I loved it as much as Little Academia! No they are not the same expect for the humor and great story lines.
I binge watched in 2 sessions, I could just not put it down. That shows a great series right there. Of course it ended on a cliffhanger....Like Little Witch Academia...and I hate that I have to wait for more!!
Netflix...don't make me wait for season 2!!! Pretty Please?
Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018)
Amazing cast....same old Cyrano Troupe that was hard to buy into
After seeing 'To all the boys I have loved before', I was so excited to see this pop up on my recommendations. However I was disappointed by the overall story-line. I am giving it a 5, because I felt the cast & movie style were amazing. They were more believable than the the story-line. **Some minor spoilers ahead**
I loved the style. It felt like the style of 'The First Time', however the chemistry wasn't there between these actors. I understand 'Sierra' was not 'model' beautiful like Veronica, however she is far from ugly. In fact it seemed like they purposefully made her 'frumpy' with clothes baggy and a clothing style like that of a 10 year old (I remember her at one point wearing a sweatshirt with some sort of cute animals on it (fluffy sheep?) It just felt contrived/forced with that and more...the relationship with Veronica, the relationship with Jamie.
With Veronica, you don't go from a mean girl to BFF's in (what felt like) a month's time. And what Sierra did to Jamie seemed to be punishment that doesn't match
the crime' and it made her a 'Mean Girl'. I don't know that felt contrived and very Bullish. And Jamie....seriously, did they think Jamie was dumb? He was made to be a smart, caring, genuine guy. Different voices in person than on the phone, hiding eyes to kiss Sierra instead of Veronica, and pretending to be deaf???? In my world we called it gas-lighting, and they called it 'cat-fishing' in the movie, which fits too when I looked it up.
I love my romance movies, however at the end of this I really ....I mean really....wanted Jamie to teach her a lesson. Saying something to the effect of "maybe this could have been, however the person I got to know was not the person I thought she was" In my mind, I don't know how I could reconcile gas-lighting, let alone reconciling the person you thought you knew vs who they really were (Especially in time for the dance). I don't care how nice a person is, if they lie to me to the extent that Sierra did, that shows character flaws, and a lot of insecurities that will follow for a lifetime. (BTW, In Cyrano, He never does get the girl. In the ending, He dies just after she realizes who he is).
Again, excellent actors and styling, however the plot-line made this movie just so awful in the end. Head-shaking awful.
PS: The 'Poem' at the end was beautiful.
