Obliterates the Source and Material Suffers For It
14 January 2023
There was potential to at least be a decent to good movie here as the novel by Dave Eggers is an interesting look into the concept of privacy in the face of ever advancing technological innovation in the age of social media. The problem is the source material itself isn't great which lends to terrible dialogue and stiff acting from all involved. They tried to condense it into 110 minutes, stray immensely from the book and lose the original message intended. Mae's(Emma Watson) development as a person and how her personality changes as she joins this giant tech company is glossed over and you find yourself not caring about her one way or the other. While reading the book I couldn't stand her but I least at felt something. This was just bland and meh. I see why this movie came, went, and was forgotten when it was released. Don't bother with this borefest and read the book instead. At least you'll feel something when you finish.

Slow Burn to Nothing
27 March 2022
Jason Segel, Jesse Plemons, and Lily Collins tried their best to make the most out of a mediocre script and that's the only reason Windfall managed 5 stars from me. The film moves at a slow pace with only 2 significant scenes of any action, both of which are predictable and can be see coming well before they happen. If the writers were trying to make a social commentary with this film, I'm not quite sure what it is; Billionaires are selfish and only pretend to care about others?? Thanks for the insight. Not a bad film but don't go in with high expectations.

Fast Paced, Campy Action Sequences, Silly Plot...
16 January 2021
Yes, Misfits brought me to this movie. (the reviewers stating Glenn Danzig "stole" the Crimson Ghost image for his band should understand that you can't "steal" from the Public Domain which The Crimson Ghost entered in 1971) I have watched both versions; the original serials and the colorized edited movie... if you go in with an open mind and accept it for what it is and the time period it was made, it's a fun movie to watch. The plot is silly, the acting is passable at best, and the actions sequences are cheesy, but hey it was 1946. The 6.5 rating here seems spot on so I'll give it a 7 to persuade anyone who is on the fence about giving it a try... Do It!!

FREE PIZZA!!
1 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so this movie is pretty average leaning towards bad. I'd have given it a 4 but one scene bumped it up to a 6. Basically, while Keanu's wife and children are away for the weekend two young ladies show up at his house under the guise of being lost on their way to a party. Of course it is during a heavy rainstorm, so Keanu being the gentleman he is allows them in to wait for an Uber. And of course they can't show up to a party in wet clothes so he kindly takes the time to throw them in the dryer so that the lovely ladies won't be sopping wet all night... But they do end up sopping wet anyways as Keanu couldn't withstand their persistent advances and sexy bodies and he takes them both to pleasure town in the shower. But that's not the scene I previously referred to. No, that comes near the end of the film after the two ladies attempt to blackmail and ruin Keanu's life and all sorts of hijinx and drama and sexiness ensues. When confronted by the ladies about how he cheated on his wife Keanu gives one of the greatest single performances in a scene I have ever witnessed. He passionately yells about free pizza and how could he possibly turn down free pizza?? And I was moved beyond words. I felt his pain and struggle because no man says no to free pizza. Keanu you brilliant s.o.b!! Bravo!! 👏
