Better Call Saul: Plan and Execution (2022)
I'm disgusted.
In the last few episodes, I started to question Jimmy's motives. Why was he doing all of this to Howard? Maybe the reason why is shown in previous episodes and I simply forgot, but the constant pranks felt as if it had no meaning. And that's exactly what they were, meaningless. It was all for fun and to act high and mighty when they tasted a drop of power. What did Howard do that offended Jimmy so bad that he went out of his way to humiliate him in such a way? And why was Kim so eager to go along with it? Howard said it best; :They were meant for each other." Childish, arrogant, soulless and evil.
Because of Howard's demeanor and candor in the last few episodes, he became my favorite character of the entire show. I had a feeling his end would come, but not in that way. Not in the sense of a pawn that was never even part of the game being discarded because it was in the way. It made me realize who the actual crook was, Jimmy McGill/ Saul Goodman.
Looking back throughout the previous seasons, I am astonished that I didn't see it sooner. He is stubborn, prideful and arrogant. Bringing misery upon everyone else while he hid his tail between his legs when the going got tough. And because of him, the one man that could have truly become his friend is dead. The one man that tried, is dead because of him. Brought down to his lowest before even getting a chance to get back up.
This was a phenomenal episode. The pacing, writing, monolugues and facial expression really solidifies this episode as one of the best. It gave that disgusted emotion and a new insight of who I should be rooting for. And it's not Jimmy.
I'm sad to see my favorite character killed in that fashion. He deserved better.
Jimmy deserves his fate. With no loving wife. No loyal friends. And no name to himself.
Black Widow (2021)
Not worth remembering
As with the other reviews, the film could have use da lot of work.
Over the top action scenes that did not add to the movie but instead dragged it on to achieve that 2 hour mark. The writing was bland and the acting is paycheck.
A few funny scenes, but not enough to save the film. Not worth wasting your money nor time over. It add nothing to the universe and introduces a replacement for Black Widow.
I'm glad, however, that Scarlet is free. She can use her potential elsewhere.
Cruella (2021)
Decent movie
Firstly, the CGI could do some work. You could easily tell the difference between a real dog and a CGI one and it made the film less than stellar because of it.
Secondly, some of the music used to "fill in the void", as i like to say, was unnecessary. More exposition could have been used and more dialogue could have been implemented.
That being said, i enjoyed it. Emma Stone did a fantastic job as Cruella/Estelle, and you could see the two personalities from her. The rest of the cast was okay, but Emma Thompson playing the villain is memorable.
Overall, a decent film. The music selection could have been more selective in my opinion and some scenes had me looking at my phone, but it's a passable movie.
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
It wasn't bad
I'm reading these reviews and honestly I don't know what people expected. From what I saw, they no longer had a story, therefore no longer were special. Their plot armor was stripped after Chuck's death becoming regular hunters. As such, they will suffer the same amount of luck as the other hunters. The way Dean died, I feel, was exactly how it should have ended for him, purely bad luck.
I will agree, some of the writing could have been better as it was cringey as hell and they dragged it on. But a few tears were shed from my side because all I see is someone seeing their closest companion for the last 15 years (and even more if you take into their character's childhood in) dying right in front of them. The partner they had by their side through thick and thin simply go.
The music, good god, whoever was placed in charged of the music should be canned. To go from the original 'Carry On Wayward Son' to some abomination that over dramatized the scene simply killed the entire purpose of it. Also the final conversation between Dean and Sam before he kicked it. I understand you wanted to emphasis the point, but sometimes the best way to do so is by playing nothing at all and allowing the scene to play itself. (This is my main issue with the finale)
The main question is, was it horrible? No and the amount of low ratings can only be attributed to some fans not having their fantasy fan-fictions fulfilled by not seeing the Winchester brothers make-out at the final scene.
You can't please everybody, but this episode shouldn't get the amount of hate it's getting.
7/10 Good, but could have been better. (I'm looking at you music person. You did a horrible job.)
Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (2019)
Surely, not a traditional Black Mirror episode.
I watched all 3 episodes of season 5 after putting it off for a while. Hell I haven't even finished Bandersnatch, but that is not the point.
1st episode was weird, but a decent Black Mirror episode. I feel that the reason it was rated low was because it made people uncomfortable. Which is the whole reason, in my opinion, of Black Mirror. To show the unhealthiness of technology in our day to day lives. My personal favorite episode of season 5.
The 2nd episode hits a little closer to home and why it received a more favorable review from people. But it wasn't anything new. It's an episode that I will forget because I read about the effects of social media on a daily basis. But, it appealed to the majority of people. Be they the older generation or those who don't have social media because they want to brag about it. It was good, but definitely not the best episode of the season.
Now, with those two episodes out of the way, it's obvious that this season is not traditional. So I will rate this episode as a non-traditional Black Mirror episode.
And it was funny. First half was a boring but necessary build-up. But once the stick gets out of the ass, it becomes a comedy and damn it was funny. It was a little adventure with a predictable end (and an ending that I wanted to happen). If you're looking for a traditional episode of Black Mirror: "Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too" isn't it.
If you have a great sense of humor and want to laugh for 20-30 minutes, I say watch it.
5/7
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)
Pretty good
Went into this movie with little expectations, thinking it was going to be a cute little thing to kill about an hour and a half. Was surprised.
It could have done with less musical numbers (except for the batman one, that was spot on) and that's my major critic.
Had a good message and a lot of jokes for the kids and for the kids inside all of us. It is a fun movie to laugh and feel a little joy with family.
Doctor Strange (2016)
Nothing Spectacular
I went into the movie among high hopes. My friends told me it was fantastic and there were scenes that were "out-of-this-world". So entering this movie (with a certain elevation) I had high expectations. But it fell incredibly short.
Overall, the acting. Monologue, boring, no worth while story, the hero who just entered the arts of magic is now suddenly one of the best in the business in a short amount of time, etc. etc. Now I understand that it's a Marvel and Superhero movie, but that doesn't change the fact that the script is entirely the SAME for every Marvel movie on the characters are changed.
This movie was (for lack of a better term) boring. There were only three of those "out-of-this-world" scenes and those scenes were done well (save for the first. Focusing on a violently shaking your head side to side while flashy colors are beaming around you is lazy film directing at best).
The movie was not what it was hyped up to be by my friends, other critics, and reviews. It is a generic action flick with terrible attempts at comedy with the usual on-liner and unbelievable looks of "How did you..." then to "I just did." and act all innocently.
In short: This action/"comedy" movie is generic, bland, boring, with few action scenes just to make sure you are distracted by the endless, meaningless conversations. I expected more from this type of movie. 2/7
P.S. This studio has become arrogant and lazy.
Zootopia (2016)
It's an okay movie
Where everyone is a critic and giving a 10/10 score is more mouth-watering than rabbit stew, I am only doing this review because of the plethora of "Excellent!" and "Incredible!", as well as "zomg, best movie ever! 5/7, luv luv, cute bunny, funny!" and so on and so forth.
This movie is average at best. It had it's great moments and the immense attention to detail truly deserve recognition, but that alone is not worth a perfect score.
Now I'm not blind to what this movie was trying to portray. I saw how it displayed the hatred toward predators to the modern hatred towards Muslims. But an unrealistic message, being portrayed by the most unrealistic way possible; 'cannibals and herbivores living in harmony'(meat eaters needs to eat meat. Don't you dare bring up tofu), does not deserve the amount of universal praise that it is currently getting. I believe this is why the public is so wet (I say wet because I have read some tweets about how some viewers wanted to screw the bunny, and not in the "normal eating" kind of way) over this movie, because it tried to spread a message of peace and love. But when politics and movies combine, seldom do they work.
It has it's funny and pensive parts; but I don't see it having any memorable parts. This movie is just okay. I'll probably watch it in the future when I have forgotten about it. I'm surprised this movie is rated more than the documentary/film of the Catholic's church biggest scandal.
That's okay though; keep living in your happy, cuddly, and predator-free bubble.
I'll rate this movie a 7/10 as that is what I feel the movie deserves.
Supernatural: The Devil in the Details (2016)
The flame is rising
I enjoyed this episode because I love how the writers portrayed Lucifer on this show and I enjoy the actor who portrayed him (Mark Pellegrino). I didn't give it a 10 because the final imitation of Misha on Lucifer didn't feel authentic enough to truly be the Prince of Darkness. But I'll give Misha a couple of episodes to ease into it.
This episode was funny, witty, and brutal. It always is when Lucifer is in town. To be honest, the only reason I'm giving this a 8 is because of the subtle joke they managed to put into Lucifer's script.
If you haven't heard, there is a show about Lucifer (which the show is named) who is residing in Los Angeles and is helping a cop solve crime. I'm not sure if a lot of Supernatural fans know about it, but if they did they would have gotten a hardy laugh as I did when old Lucy said that.
Sam: "Well let's say you gank her. Then what?"
Lucifer: "I move to L.A., solve crimes?"
Bravo writers, bravo. For your writing I give a 10. For the episode, an 8.
Hot Girls Wanted (2015)
A different perspective
I have read the other reviews here and the majority falls down to two categories; anti-porn (exploitation) and pro-porn (choice). I saw more pro-porn, guess some people don't want to accept the vindictiveness of their porn.
But that's not what this documentary is about. This documentary is based around the coming and going actress within the industry and how their naivety are taking advantage of for a couple of months when they are "young and stupid". But, they also have the choice to do it. They were giving a home, money, and the perfect life style of being "free" and doing what they wanted to do.
The best is they are free to leave when they want to. When the actress had enough, they are even congratulated and they are left alone. The reason for the niceness is because the "model finders" (Ex: Riley) always know there will be four other young girls to take her place. Like Riley said; "Every day a girl turns 18 and every day a girl wants to do porn."
This is a powerful piece because it didn't rely on drama nor facts, it relied on reality. I was glad that Riley allowed the documentary to take place as he knows this won't change anything. Women will keep entering the industry and lads like him will still be getting richer. The cycle won't end for him and he is fully aware of it. Just look at his face at the end of the documentary. His grin says it all.
Supernatural: Baby (2015)
Refreshing
I have been with this show since season 1 and have been seeing how it has been slowly declining and becoming more of a Soap Opera than hunting monsters and being thrilling. Hell, I've even seen where Dean has his own intro music now. But, I am with this to the end and was glad to see the release of this episode.
What truly captured my attention to this particular episode was how it was solely focused on the character (which I admit have never thought of before) that has been with the boys since the very first episode, the 1967 Chevrolet Impala. The camera work was astounding and it still remained true to the story arc of the season (which has been getting better).
As for the acting, incredible. There was seldom any action and a lot of talking. And not the usual "But I did it to save you!" and "I didn't ask to be saved!", no no this one was how two brothers, nay, how two close friends should talk to each other. Not bashing, but understanding and leaving it in the past.
The action as well was spectacular and it felt good to see the boys go monster hunting once more, as is their jobs.
Fantastic episode, though I'm sadden as I know there won't be another quite like it for quite a while. Still, 10/10, best episode this season.
Fast & Furious 7 (2015)
Great tribute, but movie was just another movie.
While the ending to Furious 7 was executed extremely well, the same cannot be said for the rest of the movie. The acting fell flat and it was nothing more than a two and a half hour long soap opera that has started since the franchise stopped racing cars. The loves scenes became ridiculous and the car action increased in more B.S. than Congress. The movie recycled every cliché in the book.
The fighting actions that involved Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) was welcoming. Jason was Deckard during those moments and he played the part well. All the random moments where he would show meant you knew it was about to go down. When he appears, action is none stop between Domini Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Deckard Shaw, with the fighting between the two intensify with every encounter.
Furious 7 has an incredible tribute to a man that was loved by many and he deserved nothing less. But that alone cannot make this movie be worthy of anything higher than a 7.
