Outlander (2014)
It's a great show that one should stop watching after S3.
The title sums up it all.
Outlander begins as a fantastic show boasting excellent music, acting, and production quality. However, the series takes a disappointing turn after season three, devolving into an excessive focus on explicit content. While occasional intimacy is understandable, the frequency and intensity of these scenes become overwhelming, detracting from the storytelling. It feels as though the show relies too heavily on sensationalism to maintain viewer interest, rather than maintaining consistency in its narrative. The initial allure of Outlander's rich story and character development is overshadowed by gratuitousness, leaving audiences longing for the depth and substance of earlier seasons.
Solar Opposites (2020)
Seasons 1-3: 9Stars, Season 4: 4 stars.
The show is great until you get to season 4, Krovo's voice completely changes and ruins the entire world's experience. His register, pitch, accent all run in contradiction to the universe and his personality.
On top of the voice change, the episodes become increasingly less interesting since season 3. Each character feels less and less interesting rather than more with each passing episode. It seems like a wasted IP or perhaps the writers simply used up all their creativity or some internal conflicts ruining their imaginative scripts and scene.
Whatever the case is, the moral of this entire review is to say: Watch until season 4. After that it's dead weight.
Inventing Anna (2022)
Great production, poor excision.
Cast: 8/10, pretty good cast, all the characters were rather believed except, I constantly found myself disliking Neff, but that's more to do with the writing than the actress. I also found the accent rather jarring but understand what they're trying to do even it comes across inadequately.
Writing: 6/10, the show could have gone for 7 episodes and been just as effective. My biggest issue with the writing is it makes a lot of vague talking points that the individuals would ever say. For example, when the state offers you a plea deal, they tell you what you're getting it's not a surprise after it has been taken... There are also issues with Neff and Rachel's interaction that just screams unrealistic. (If you've seen the show you know what I'm referring to)
Music: 2/10, all the music was just horrible with variations of half-singing half mumbling with repetitive beats, completely tone-deaf to the storyline or what's happening in the story.
Cinematography/Editing: 7/10, good, but why are you using skylines of other cities?
Overall pretty good, but given the budget and cast, it seems unequivocal the writers,
Kris Bowers, and Pierre Charles hurt the show substantially.
