Point Break (1991)
Awesome movie- simple as that
along with "The Game", Three Burials", "Goodfellas" and "Scarface" this goes down as one of my all time fav's. compared to action films of today it rules all over!!!!i wont go into detail of the storyline! but everything about this movie is ace. the chemistry between Swayze and Reeves is good! the music is awesome, the diologue is cool and the vibe of the film makes you feel good! i mean after watching this i longed to join a gang, surf, drink corona , jump out of planes and rob banks (just kidding about the robbing part) :) I am not a huger fan of Keanu but he was made for this role!!!! you can tell it was made in 1990 due to the grunge haircuts and the whole personality of the film. To sum it up i can watch this over and over and enjoy!!!!! if you have not seen this yet- enjoy the experience.
Body Double (1984)
really good
I don't care what people think of this- I enjoy it every time I see it! it's quirky, the music is great and its very 80's cheese! all in all the acting is really entertaining and who cares if its a little Hitchcock! This movie has everything, suspense, comedy, sex, gore! its one i'm proud to have in my collection. Brian in my eyes along with David Fincher is one of hollywoods finest directors- and this is in my opinion one of his greatest works. People keep slating the plot! what planet are you on! just go along with the ride and stop reading between the lines. It is dated and the kissing scene by the tunnel is actually so cheesy its amusing but all in all if you have not seen this then do yourself a favour and watch it!
Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
Compelling and will keep you thinking
I first watched this in 1997 and to be honest I fell asleep, but back nine years ago my life was all about going to parties and consistently living with a hangover (i was only 19) so i fell asleep and took it back to the rental store never to think of it again until nearly a decade later. Come May2006, I watched it again with little memory from the previous viewing and after 5 mins I was hooked- basically to enjoy this film and really get the most out of it-you have to get into the head of nic cage a guy who has lost the two things that mean the most to him his kid and his woman. he's obviously lost control of his life and after alienating himself from friends (we have all done it) he then loses his job it is at this point he decides to drink himself to death. the next 1hour and 40 mins are often distubing as you should find yourself pulling for him to get better- but by the end its not your typical Hollywood ending-lets leave it at that. in all essence this film needs concentration, yes it is depressing and yes it can sometimes move slowly but you really need to appreciate where Nic cage is coming from to enjoy this flick. Tjhat does not mean you need to have experienced drink or drug problems but you need to think of a sad time in your life where you have lost something/someone! and how that made you feel. now i now thats a bit heavy for watching a film but y'know what! thats what makes this interesting and original- it pulls your heart out and takes you for a ride! seriously this is a great film in every aspect and even the music fits well with it. Remember it might open some emotions but if it does then you are sure to think of this film for days afterwards.
Green Street (2005)
fantastic and unforgettable
I heard nothing but bad reviews before watching this, but i was totally into it from the very start, its characters are really watchable and the film in general is just beautifully shot, with a really good soundtrack this like (the game) leaves a lasting impression on you, i rented it last night and will buy it later today, for anyone who wants a slice of england underground culture this may or may not be what you want to see, but the story line is great, the actors do well- and even the fact that Pete has a dodgy accent adds to the fact you will remember this film and want to watch again in the future! football factory is fun and id is watchable but this is the pick of the bunch, its violent and sometimes disturbing but hugely captivating.
The Backlot Murders (2002)
what happened to corey haim, i'll tell you what happened!
What ever happened to corey haim, the thrills famously sung, i'll tell you what happened, he seemed to go for any script thrown at him, this film included, I've always been facinated with Haims career and to be fair to him I and many others strongly feel that in any movie he can light up the screen, fever lake for example, minus haim that film would surly have not been rented, the guy is actually more talented than people realise. But this film is still weak, its got no direction really, maybe the budget was low , although haim as the guitar player made me chuckle, its funny because ironically had the lost boys been filmed in present day it would be haim who probably would have been cast in kiefer sutherlands role, to summerise this , give the film a miss, unless like me you are a die hard haimster fan.
Elizabethtown (2005)
disappointing
The last quarter of the film to me is the most effective. Blooms Road trip is captivating to watch as he visits places of the famous where they died, were buried etc etc. I think overall this film Disappoints, bloom leads the film well- and the soundtrack is great but It's just not that believable, I mean a guy loses a company a billion dollars- I think he'd get a bit more of a roasting that what he actually Receives. In a strange way Bloom reminded me of a younger Michael J fox Which is weird I know. Overall It improves as it goes along but is a bit slow and quite depressing to watch- it's not a feel good movie, but Then again Crowe's films rarely are in my opinion.
The Game (1997)
amazing from start to finish! Michael Douglass is king in this performance
This film is gripping to the end, anyone who criticises it is not seeing it for what it is. 90 Min's of escapees. Now i love Michael Douglas anyway and this I feel is his best work- hes superb as Nicholas- a rich arrogant fat cat who has it all- then his world gets turned upside down almost overnight- I can watch this over and over again and for people that haven't seen it yet- it's a real treat. Personally its one of my favourites of all time- the story line and characters are just fun to watch= the chilling music score is perfect and the director captures the concept very well. Although Sean Penn doesn't have a large role- he is very affective as the ex-junkie younger brother.
