The War of the Vendee (2012)
An Inspiring Surprise
Initially put off by the cast of children and youth, I was drawn into "The War of the Vendee" by the quality of effort in the film, which is actually now one of my favorites. Amazing actually. I think the director and the young actors did a very good job given their age and likely their budget. They chose an important and timely topic and cast children to tell the story. The modern world needs to know what happens when the state tries to deny religious liberty -- no spoiler here, it's history. The world also needs to see the future adult in its children, and give them the kind of dignity given them in this film. There are some corny parts and low budget effects, but that really seemed appropriate. It is very worth watching and worth thinking about. You will find out something about history that very few people would have known before they watched the film.
If you're not Catholic, you may not understand some of it, but you may still better understand what happened to Catholics in France during the revolution.
