The Ruins (2008)

I wish I had those 93 minutes of my life back...
17 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Can someone please introduce the natives to Roundup herbicide? I found myself itching (pardon the pun) to find our tube of Calamine Lotion during this film.

Other than being really impressed with how well they pulled off the special effects regarding severed limbs, etc., I was so not impressed with this film. From the bogus German accent of Mathias, to the very bad acting, to the pitiful vining 'villian,' this film stank.

Frankly, the special features were more entertaining than the feature. I have not read the book, but after viewing the movie I am almost afraid to do so. I think that it would've definitely have helped the story a bit to have had an 'insider' explain to the characters what had happened there, what the beliefs of the natives were in regard to this place, the vines, etc. Since it ended the way it did, I am assuming there might be a sequel. I shudder at the suggestion.

Spoiler alert...
15 September 2008
Warning: Spoilers
When the overbearing patriarch of a family becomes financially ruined, he loses his mind and in a fit of rage shoots his wife and daughter. A passerby finds them and alerts Doc Baker. While they are recovering, the menfolk of Walnut Grove go looking for the husband/father. Unbeknownst to them, he finds his way to the Laura/Almonzo's house, where Jenny, Laura, and Baby Rose are alone. The deranged man thinks that he is talking to his wife/daughter and when he finds Baby Rose, he suspects that the baby belongs to his daughter, and plots to do away with the baby to save the family's 'dignity.' Laura and Jenny play along with his delusion hoping that help will arrive in time. It results in a shootout with the menfolk of Walnut Grove and the deranged man.

The War at Home (2005–2007)
In this day of Political Correctness, this show is a gem
6 November 2006
How refreshing to watch a show that doesn't sugar-coat everything!!! Let's just call a spade a spade and not candy-coat everything so it's easier to swallow. My husband and I LOVE this show! I hope that it won't get canceled since it has wonderful parental humor in it.

I hardly think that the father's references to Larry's sexuality in regard to his interests deserves such criticism. Statistically speaking, many guys involved in musicals do tend to have homosexual tendencies...maybe not all of them but how many Tony winners do you know who are heterosexual? It's no more discriminating to say that than it is to make jokes about Jewish individuals dominating the entertainment industry. Even Jay Leno made jokes about the absence of NBC execs (Jewish) during Jewish holidays! I think everyone needs to lighten up and get used to laughing at themselves instead of taking everything so personal and demanding lawsuits over such silly stuff such as this.

The Grudge (2004)

I want those 2 hours of my life BACK!
13 January 2006
My husband and I went to see this movie, being the horror movie buffs that we are. Two hours later I found myself wanting both my money and time back. I was so disappointed. The teasers for this film basically contained the best points of the film. There was nothing very scary about the film other than good timing on surprise entrances, etc. I found most of the 'scary' parts to be more comical than anything. After viewing other movies based on the works of Japanese writers, I have to conclude that what is deemed frightening in Japan is not what is frightening here in the US. My advice: If you are a fan of true horror movies, save yourself the pain of sitting through this one. I can't really say that I would recommend renting it either, unless you have a free rental coming to you.
