Worldfest Houston 4/28/07

I caught this flick at Worldfest Houston(www.worldfest.org) this past weekend. It is well made with an interesting plot. The mood is set right from the beginning and it definitely has that Eastern European feel from moment one. It is well acted and has a great twist ending. If you are tired of Hollywood studio drivel you will appreciate it...Actually, this film festival is the only time of year I go to the theater. Worldfest Houston has been around for 40 years and discovered Spielberg, Lucas, Ridley Scott, Ang Lee and the Coen Brothers. They each received their first awards at this festival. We are lucky to get a break from the usual junk!

I just saw this last night at Worldfest Houston (www.worldfest.org). It was an interesting premise and put together like no other movie I have ever seen. It is definitely a quality independent film and proves once again that you don't need a studio or a huge budget to make a good flick. The writer/director and many of the actors were at the showing and did an extended Q&A after the feature. He said they rehearsed extensively and shot the film in 17 hours. They shot eight 11-minute long scenes with 4 cameras and the actors used lines or actions as cues throughout. The actors likened the production to their previous stage experience. Check it out if you get the opportunity!

A world without borders will be wonderful...for everyone else...

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is predictable, boring and annoying. It will definitely win the Oscar over superior film THE DEPARTED (I'm pretty sure I have figured out what the so-called "Hollywood Elite" want to see in a film...CRASH...give me a break). Anything with sympathetic undertones toward illegal aliens or middle easterners/north africans that didn't mean to shoot Americans will do the trick. OH and it's an "INTERNATIONAL movie without borders"...they'll eat that up and have seconds to boot. Don't waste your time...see 21 GRAMS over BABEL. Hopefully they will see the light and give Marty S. his first trophies (the whole ORDINARY PEOPLE thing must still sting).
