Outlast (2023)
Pathetic
I thought this survival series might be similar to the Alone survival series which was absolutely great. Alone always seemed authentic. Outlast always seemed phony. Unfortunately, it wasn't even close, Outlast couldn't compare with Alone.
The contestants obviously weren't very hungry or more time would have spent time trying to acquire food. It appeared to be scripted and having camera people makes it less of a reality show.
The dumb woman who approved stealing sleeping bags and dooming people to a freezing cold night cried over killing a squirrel. Oh puhleeze!
Very, very, very disappointing!!
World's Busiest Cities (2017)
More details would be appreciated
Delhi - too much about cricket, too little about the educational, medical and other systems.
Hong Kong - too much about a barber - too little about water, waste, etc.
Mexico City - A major problem in recent years is the violence that is everywhere in Mexico including Mexico City but not one mention of the impact of fear on the populace
It seems like the series ignores huge, important parts about each city
And not to be picky, however, why does Anita dress as if she is a teenager?
The Trail (2013)
So childlike that it would even irritate children
Comments by a 12 year old: 1. Why isn't she taking the dead man's hat to cover her head since it is snowing? 2 . She didn't have a jacket in her covered wagon? 3. Why wouldn't she just put everything into the big cloth and carry it instead of carrying a heavy box? 4. It never looked like a trail..what kind of trail would be in the middle of a forest? And did that big pot really fit into the stupid wooden box? And on and on. Sure it was a fantasy but a very annoying one. To be a worthwhile fantasy there needs to be some semblance of practicality. Perhaps a warning would have bee appropriate here...something like adults beware, only very young girls who like dreamlike movies will enjoy.
Frontera (2014)
A wonderful human interest story on the Mexico-US border
I loved it! Terrific performance as usual by Ed Harris. He made my heart hurt in the scenes where he misses his wife. I was completely surprised by by Eva Longoria's excellent performance -- what a turnaround fromDesperate Housewives. Michael Pena drew me in. The best part about thefilm is that it never became a political rant nor becomes preachy.Instead it presents people on both sides of the border as just ordinarypeople trying to do the best they can in difficult situations. It alsodoesn't bog down in sentimentality which would have been the easiestpath to take. Truthfully with the right marketing, I can see this being a sleeper of a hit.
