Ghost Loop (2019)
Huh?
This is basically what happens when you take a bunch of adult kids, give them some equipment, and let them go on a "cool ghost hunt".
At first the show had some comedic value, and then it became just downright annoying. Who are these people? And more importantly - why do they have a show? They seem to freak out like high school kids when they get a response! The lines of questioning are antagonising, and then - they do some sort of 'cleansing' ceremony at the end...what is this???
You will most certainly lose a few IQ points after watching this one!
Ghost Brothers (2016)
Weak!
I feel as though this show is more about the comedic interactions between the guys than actual supernatural investigation. I'm taken aback by the number of high ratings - what a snoozefest!
Survivor South Africa (2006)
As good as it gets
This version of the show (especially from season 5 onward) is an absolute winner! The castaways, challenges, rewards, and all-round production value are right up there with the best of 'em. Definitely worth a watch!
The Big Show Show (2020)
Not gonna win any awards, but...
It's a fun little show - not funny, but fun. Big Show kills it, Steve Erkel kills it, Fez's ex-girlfriend kills it, the kids though...meh!
Brews Brothers (2020)
Dear Netflix...
Please stop making half-baked shows like this, pretty please? If this one has to continue- maybe think about changing that Adam guy? In all seriousness though, Brews Brothers is slightly below mediocre...NEXT!
Impractical Jokers: The Movie (2020)
But WHY?
Impractical jokers is one of my top 3 favourite TV shows. The magic lies in the fact that most of it is off the cuff, genuine and natural - in terms of banter. As a scripted "movie" this is not that great. The guys are NOT actors - they're supposed to be 4 everyday buddies and that's the magic formula. I am now questioning whether all the "unscripted" parts from the show are actually unplanned to begin with.
Australian Survivor (2016)
Not great
The US and South African versions are terrific, and being a fan of Ozzie reality tv and a survivor super-fan, I decided to give this one a bash. I mean, how hard could it be to stuff up survivor? The contestants are pretty bland, the challenges are almost exclusively physical and the small things like watching the survivors react to the reward reveal are...meh! In fact, the host is happy to keep a reward crate a "surprise" only to find the winning team unbox a toothbrush and a tube of moisturizer. Really?
Disappointing.
Norsemen (2016)
Yes! Watch this!
What a great show, truly. Writing is brilliant, characters great, humor is consistent, cast is amazing...there's nothing not to like. Of all the parodies done over the years, this ranks right up there. To think that this was shot in multiple languages is mind blowing. Nothing has been lost in translation. To season 3...and beyond!
Tuca & Bertie (2019)
Loud, migraine-inducing, incoherent mess
The only way to enjoy this is to mute the audio and come up with your own dialogue. Utter garbage.
Black Summer (2019)
It is what it is...
A fictional post apocalyptic zombie thingy. Ignore the reviews lambasting the lack of realism or labeling the characters as "idiotic."
This is not a remake, it's not a spin-off and not comparable to other shows in the genre. It is however a story that has been told many times before, and this time - it's told pretty well. Good cinematography, good editing and a decent cast make this a good show actually. Is it the best? No, no it's not. It is what it is, and what it is, is a solid piece of small screen viewing. There's potential in Black Summer. Hopefully a second season might sway the naysayers.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Horror? Really?
Tried binge-watching this but instead it took about 3 months. There are some quick fleeting moments of horror, but they dissipate quickly and instead we get flashbacks and fast forwards. Like the flashback thing is neverending. The story could have been packaged better methinks. It's a half decent drama, but horror fans will be left disappointed. The incredibly high ratings are just perplexing...how?
Derry Girls (2018)
Painful drivel
Reading some of the reviews, it's amazing that the show appeals to so many. It's not relatable and not funny. The cast looks like a bunch of 30 year olds playing teenagers, but above all else - the characters are painfully over-acted. I don't see the need to substitute comedy with contorted facial expressions.
Rather watch : The Inbetweeners, Bad education, Cuckoo, Hardy Bucks.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)
Started with promise
Love the Coen brothers work. Well, normally...
The landscapes, music and characters are great, but man oh man is it difficult to watch! Too many stories. To the point where the film doesn't hold attention well. It's boring, increasingly depressing and quite tiring to get through.
The Traffickers (2016)
She's just so bad!!!
This show does have potential. A great idea and a host that probably wanted to be an investigative journalist since young, but man oh man! Her absence of street smarts is so apparent. The terrible facial expressions, stealth-less attitude and personal opinions are highly annoying. For example : in a particular episode she "poses" (badly once again) as a purchaser of Pangolin, once the animal is shown to her she screams to the handler "STOP, you're hurting him!"
Like SERIOUSLY??!!!!!
This could be a semi-decent show if the host was changed. As for right now, rather give it a miss.
