This Is Us: The Guitar Man (2022)
Such a phenomenal cast!
The casting is spot-on and in this episode we see the multi-generational kids really shine. We have some old favorites return, too. Uncle Nicky really gets what Cassidy is going through and is able to educate Kevin as well as steer Cassidy to the right place for help. Another poignant, relatable episode.
Space Force: Proportionate Response (2020)
Each episode gets better.
I think this was a fitting finale that wraps up the season nicely. We get to see each character do what they do best. Even the F. Tony Scarapiducci character has grown and is more likable.
Even though there is some predictability, there are a few twists.
Carell and Malkovich have been fabulous the whole season, but the writers are not stingy in letting the other characters get screen time.
I'd watch a second season.
Space Force: Lunar Habitat (2020)
An episode with heart
Could you live in a restrictive environment with limited dining options? General Naird thinks his previous military experience has prepared him for such an experiment and volunteers. But, just like on earth, living with others has unexpected challenges. He also learns, others are helpful as he comes to terms with undealt with feelings.
The characters are developing and we're starting to get to know them. Even with all their quirks, we find them endearing -except the F. Tony Scarapiducci character - he needs to go. He is a reincarnation of Ben Schwartz's character from Parks and Rec. There was nothing endearing about him then or now. He's just annoying.
I loved how Brad finally gets to do something.
Young Sheldon: A Baby Tooth and the Egyptian God of Knowledge (2020)
Why, oh why, end the season like this?
I'm flummoxed. First, where is George Sr.? I think he would have been in on all the drama happening in this episode. Second, why end the season on such a downer? It's ok to have a cliff hanger but leave us with some good, Cooper family togetherness. Disappointed I am.
Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist: Zoey's Extraordinary Glitch (2020)
One jolt after another
I love this show and it's creativity and this episode continues that by turning things upside-down. Information overload has Zoey "malfunctioning" and spilling her own guts in song. It's one shocking revelation after another. Grab some tissues and come along for the crazy ride.
A.P. Bio: Eight Pigs and a Rat (2018)
My question is finally answered.
I think Jack is a selfish jerk but somehow I am invested in the characters. I've been wondering why a philosophy professor was hired to teach A.P. Bio, you find out in the episode.
Plus, there are lots of volcanos.
The Closer: Sudden Death (2008)
Heart-wrenching
Emmy worthy performances by all. Very realistic portrayal of street gangs and living in gang territory. The team having to do their jobs, remain professional, and not compromise the case is all acted perfectly.
The randomness of gang violence and culture is at the forefront and the difficulty of getting witnesses to talk.
We get to see how much of a family the team is as well as meet Tao's wife.
The last scene with Provenza and Sanchez- have tissues ready.
Free Trip to Egypt (2019)
A heartwarming documentary
A desire to expose Americans to Egyptian culture and promote civil discourse led the filmmaker to offer a free, all expenses paid trip. He had a hard time getting people to take him up on the offer but he eventually gathers a relatively diverse group and we get to come along for the ride.
My favorite part was his pairing of the various group members with their Egyptian guides and the variety of cultural activities they do. I especially like the time they spend in people's homes- really connecting with locals and not just the touristy things.
You'll see how hospitable, kind, fun-loving and compassionate the Egyptian people are.
No surprises that everyone involved grows from the experience.
Superstore: Delivery Day (2018)
Orson Bean is fantastic
A probably too true look at what you get in health care coverage if your management versus grunt worker. The nurse and Orson Bean as Amy's doctor steal the show.
Call the Midwife: Christmas Special (2015)
I am disappointed with this episode- SPOILERS
After a long wait for my "Call the Midwife" fix, this episode did not satisfy. The most glaring problem was how mean Sister Evangelina was to not just Sister Monica Joan, but to everyone! Yes, she has always been gruff and opinionated but she usually isn't so intense. The second gripe is that no one really called her out on it. I expected after the first few outbursts that she would have a one-on-one with Sister Julienne, but everyone pretty much let her spew with no admonishment- they just cowered in her wake.
The plot seemed unrealistic, also. Would the BBC really want to film a Christmas special in Poplar? And the caricature of the producer/director was too much.
Did I miss something as I thought Tom had moved to another parish? But he is there convincing the sisters to allow the production as well as possibly developing an interest in nurse Barbara, who is as interesting as watching paint dry. Please don't let this happen! If anything he must reconnect with Trixie. And Barbara, being a nurse, did not handle the child's fever on the Christmas light watching trip well at all.
Some positive points were all the interactions between Fred and Violet. I loved her sewing the split seam in his Santa pants. Also, Sister Monica Joan's adventure to go home was well told and superbly acted, as was the side story of Patsy.
I guess my overall complaint is the episode did not utilize the characters as well as it could have, ignoring some main characters all together. For example, couldn't they have at least thrown a line in commenting on Chummy? You would think Sargent Noakes was single the way they presented him.
Yes, I know time is limited and it is just a t.v. show, but I think they could have done so much better.
