A Blueprint for Murder (1953)
THE LITTLE BOY DID IT? NOPE!
Boring wannabe noir, the supposed culprit is pretty much revealed in the first 10 minutes, and Joseph Cotton was willing to commit murder to prove it. WHAT?! No suspense whatsoever, unless suspension of disbelief counts. Spoiler! What if it turned out that the young boy was a secret murderer, who somehow fooled detectives, doctors and family. Kind of a 'Bad Seed' plot twist. There, I just improved this lousy waste of 80 minutes, by 💯per cent. You're Welcome!
Sick of It All (2016)
A MAN NAMED BARBRA!? WHY ISN'T ZION A STAR YET?
Zion is the best thing about this quirky, funny little film. I caught it totally randomly, just appeared on my TV screen, I decided to watch because there was nothing else of interest on. Weird description: 'inspired by "The Little Prince", I had no clue what French story they referred to. Still, the plot just got weirder and weirder, but L. P., the character played by 8 year old Zion, delivered some of the funniest lines with the dead-pan professionalism of a seasoned actor. Why hasn't he done other movies or TV? The kid is a gem. Hope to see more from him. This movie is funny, definitely worth a watch. And yes, there's a guy named Barbra!
Africa (1999)
'WALKABOUT' FOR DUMMIES
Well, the skimpily clad, high-heel wearing doofus drives alone thru South African jungle at night in an open Jeep, with no survival geer. Oh, she does have a cell phone, which she promptly tosses out when her boyfriend calls to check on her progress. After the crash, instead of staying on the one paved road, an obvious truck route, (a truck ran her off the road) for some dumb reason she wanders off deep into the jungle. In high heels. If anybody deserves to be eaten by a lion, Darwin says she's lunch. I hate to compare this tripe to the classic 'Walkabout', but that movie really showed how the 'city kid lost in nature' plot device was excellently done. This whole movie shoulda got lost in the jungle.... Oddly, unlike the 'Naked and Afraid' people, survival specialists all, this woman never had a problem making fire. Weird how that happens.....
Porgy and Bess (1959)
RELEASE IT ***NOW!!!***
With the death of Dianne Carroll, the only remaining living cast members are Poitier and Nichelle Nichols!
Oprah! Tyler Perry! Spike! President Obama! Anybody with Hollywood clout! We need to see and appreciate this historic masterpiece of African American talent while some of the originals are still with us.
Concussion (2015)
Shoulda Got An Oscar Nomination
This movie was great, watched it twice in succession. Will Smith did an excellent portayal of the real life Dr. Omalu, who I've seen interviewed on TV. He should have gotten a nomination, at the least. Thanks for this movie.
The Big Picture (2000)
Great Short Film, Beautiful Musical Score
I'm a big fan of musical scores, and this little film has a gorgeous piano soundtrack composed by Cliff Bradley. I was able to find the tracks on Bradley's web page, and they hold up to listening without the movie. He's collaborated on other Spierig Brother's projects as well, such as their truly scatter-brained 'Undead' effort.(What The Hell!?) I think Bradley's a gifted composer, and I look forward to more from him. Any idea where we can view or buy 'The Big Picture'? It had a very brief run on HBO before the age of DVR's, haven't seen it since, not even on You-Tube. I'd even buy the cursed 'Undead'(YUK!)if they tacked on 'Big Picture' as an extra. I've e-mailed SpierigFilms, to no avail.
