Why is Tyler Perry allowed to make movies?
22 October 2007
This movie was at best painful to watch. The dialog and acting in this movie was exceptionally trite. The characters were representations of various stereotypes of men and women in society. I found the "movie" to be pathetic and unworthy of the time I spent to watch. I am at a loss for why Tyler Perry continues to make movies. The examples of his movie making ability are difficult to watch and not even entertaining. To the critic who called naysayers of the movie "racist" , people do not have to be racist to realize the sheer ineptitude of this movie. I am far from racist, being as I am not entirely caucasian. I am part Japanese, Lebanese, Ukranian, Polish, and Hungarian (I know I am a mutt). I assure you I harbor no prejudice.

The movie is junk.

Pretty Strong Film
9 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was overall very good. The only issue I have is the fact that it takes 45 minutes to build the characters Kale and Ashley, and to a lesser extent, Ronnie. I came in expecting to be jump right into the thriller it was being advertised as fairly soon into the movie. It did not do that. I also feel that it is ridiculous that so many largely quality films have to have a romantic conflict/interest in them. This movie would have lost nothing if it had removed the Kale-Ashley soap opera. However, the last 45 minutes or so was very good. Not so much scary, but definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat and your heart pounding.

Absolutely Amazing
8 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I saw V a few nights ago. It has instantly moved to my Top 5 list. I do not have a single bad thing to say about this movie. I found every aspect fascinating. I have been drowned by the litany of over done premises, predictable plot, and boring acting. This movie is truly one of a kind. I will definitely buy it.

The idea of a locked down city ruled with an iron fist is truly 1984-esque. I found myself wondering if that was a significant influence on the writers. Also the idea of giving out all of the masks was genius. I also loved the idea of a slighted citizen wreaking havoc in a strict society. Also, I found myself with a dumb smile after each awesome knife fighting scene. Natalie Portman was simply fantastic. Hugo Weaving pulled off another dominating behind-the-mask performance.

Simply put, I LOVED IT!

Junk
3 April 2006
My girlfriend found this at the bottom of the DVD stack. I do not have the slightest idea where this came from, but last night we decided to watch it, well sort of. We were able to stomach the first thirty minutes or so of it. This movie was a disgrace for several reasons. The guns that the ladies used were either 99 cent black water guns or wooden cut outs. Also, the sound was awful. Three people would be with in 10 feet of each other. It would zoom in on each one and each person would be at a different volume with different background noise. The acting is the worst I believe I have ever seen. It was a joke. The only somewhat redeemable entertainment value was the fact that it was so horrible that it was almost funny.

Great Acting, So-So movie
21 November 2005
I saw this movie last night with my girlfriend. I am a Johnny Cash fan so this was a natural choice.

The movie does not develop very quickly. The movie as whole did not grab me and hold me until the end. To be honest, I was pretty much bored by the movie.

I applaud Joaquin Phoenix for an outstanding portrayal of Mr. Cash. He honestly sounded quite similar to the real thing.

The movie was just boring.

I gave it such a high rating because of Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. If I was rating purely on the entertainment level of the movie, I would probably give it a 3.

Boogeyman (2005)

Warning: Spoilers
I had heard good things from a couple of people about this movie. My girlfriend was also hounding me to see it. We rented it yesterday. I thought this was not even remotely scary. The scares relied more on surprise than on quality of picture. We all know the classic idea of the Boogeyman. This Boogeyman looked like a skeleton with grey skin pulled over his frame. Some movies, like Sixth Sense, The Ring, have a child with random eerie comments. I think this what they were going for in Boogeyman and failed miserably. The girl sounded like she was reading her dialogue. Barry Watson's girlfriend was also poorly acted. Also, I think that closets were intended to be some sort of teleport, which I thought was juvenile and confusing. Furthermore, the idea that the past 15 yrs of this man's life has been ruled by a horrifying hallucination derived from a play doll and his father's departure I thought was poor as well.

And, his childhood friend was way better looking than his steady girlfriend. And nicer and more understanding etc.

Not King's Best work
31 May 2005
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was at best average. The entire movie in my opinion was entirely too disorganized. I was disappointed because King's movies are generally mildly entertaining. I would suggest against seeing this. Nothing in this was remotely scary in my opinion. I thought it was more of a comedy than a horror. The person I think that is intended to portray Death looks like you would find his costume at a local Halloween store. I wouldn't suggest seeing it. Also the entire movie is based off the main character's deep seated fear of a pathetic roller coaster, named the Bullet. David Arquette is a joke in any movie he plays in. I should of known not to see it since he was in it. Anyways, his character was also pathetic and more annoying than scary. Jonathan Jackson's character randomly has flashbacks that are supposed to give insight I think but were more confusing than anything else.
