Annoying leading lady
12 May 2021
I find the lead actress in this series just annoying. I think it has mostly to do with her hair colour and hair style. No one wore their hair long in the 1920s and most redheads had their hair dyed blonde! I think if they cut her hair and dyed it blonde, I could possibly watch it for longer periods.

Really disappointing!

Seriously dull cast and ridiculous storyline. Sarah's disappearance should have been dealt with in the first series. Absolute waste of the fabulous Sharon Small with a ridiculous 1960s hairdo!!

Excellent show, interesting historical perspective on woman doctors

Responding to green4tom above. In fact, David Carradine, a good friend of the director, Seymour's then-husband James Keach, son of Stacy Keach, Sr. (who appeared in several episodes as Judge Webster), appears in one episode as Houston Currier. Stacy Keach, Jr. did not appear in the series.

1972 version vs 2019 version

As I haven't seen the 1972-1992 series, I can't compare the two, but I am a huge fan of Marc Warren and watch anything he is in. That said, I had difficulty keeping up with all the characters in the current series. To user billcarr31, who didn't know who Barry Foster was, he played the Van Der Valk character in the 1972-1992 series, which is played by Marc Warren in the 2019 series.

Really good movie!

I agree with most commenters that it was an excellent movie, a real-life story for the ages. Glenn Close and Jonathan Pryce were perfectly cast. However, I must take issue with a user who stated that Sean Connery would have been better in the role of the Husband, rather than Jonathan Pryce. Sean Connery is now 88 years old, Jonathan Pryce is 72, a difference of 16 years, and the age of the couple in the movie was about mid-60s. Also, the son was played by Max Irons, son of Jeremy Irons, not Ben Irons (no relation).

Underrated movie!

I love this movie. It's got everything. I've watched it three times. I absolutely fell in love with Clark Gable's house - love the French-style courtyard with the house built around it, the terraces and the big wrought iron gates!! All style!!

Really interesting series!
5 May 2018
This is a really interesting, well-researched, well-made series with a few issues. First is Elizabeth McGovern's little girl voice (I always have to look up a history site to find out who she is talking about in the case of the lesser-known American women) because I can't understand and/or hear what she is saying, which can be really annoying over time. I found this as well watching Downton Abbey. Second is the repetition of scenes. I found this particularly irritating in the episode about King Edward and Wallis Simpson and the never-ending scenes of Emerald Cunard smoking a cigarette with a holder while supposedly talking to a party guest. All in all though, I have enjoyed the series very much, as well as learning about people I had never heard of.
