Fright Night 2 (2013)
It literally made me sick
I agree that this movie is a waste of Jaime Murray. The first Fright Night remake was OK and had enough star power to get by, but this one just didn't pull me in. They should have paid for at least one more recognizable face for Peter Vincent's role. The fact that they turned him into a ghost hunting whoremonger instead of a goofy late night movie host doesn't help either. If you watch horror movies for blood and random nudity then you won't be completely disappointed. I can usually handle bad movies with unlikeable casts, but this movie has horrible camera effects. Anytime something is supposed to be scary the screen flashes for a ridiculous amount of time and it gave me a migraine.
Masters of Science Fiction: The Awakening (2007)
It was decent
I'm not completely blind to the flaws in our country and our government, but this series so far seems to skew against Americans. I could see if it was told in a U.S.-centric universe and the message was that "we" needed to change, but it was a little corny when the communist countries immediately stood for what was right and our president practically had to be possessed to change his mind. I have watched a good bit of sci-fi so I am not incensed by the political (religious?) stance of this episode. The idea that Americans are wrong in all things is kind of getting old though. We didn't invent the negative aspects of humanity and I have a hard time believing that any country has eliminated them in their culture. Anyway, the premise was decent, I enjoyed the special effects, and it was nice to see the cop from Angel in something again. I guess I covered the negative aspects more than the positive, but it was reasonably good sci-fi. Overall I would have enjoyed it more if the aliens didn't have wings at the end. I hope the later episodes aren't huge downers like the first two.
Masters of Horror: The V Word (2006)
It was OK, sort of slow
This was somewhat boring considering it was about the V word. The end result felt more like an anti-drug after school special, not that drugs were involved in this episode. It felt like it could have been cut down to 30 minutes or a 10-15 minute skit and the pace was annoyingly slow, probably to show dramatic emphasis. Not to mention whoever wrote this episode has never played a video game in his/her life. Whenever the two main characters talk about games they sound like a 60 year old non-gamer trying to figure out why people play in the first place. At least Doom 3 didn't have Pac-man sound effects, but still most people would prefer to play it on the PC with a keyboard and mouse. Chalk it up to artistic license I guess.
