Motives (2004)
A most delectable movie full of trials and desperate motives - motives that can kill
Wait! Let me catch my breath! Honey Chile! Here I am in 2006 just finding out about this movie? This movie was not nominated for a Golden Globe? Oscar? NO ONE from this movie was nominated? Well now I am really angered by that! I am of the firm persuasion that this movie should have been acknowledged in some way. I see so many good films that are not nominated that I don't even watch the Oscars any more. Well as I say "let me tell you what I saw while you were sleeping." My goodness! The breathtaking acting, the smoother than smooth love scenes (never seen the way the editor fixed this movie scene) -- it was sooo soo juicy to say the least. I do not know the actor who was the mistress but I say this -- wooo weee can she act sensuously -- her and her girlfriend and how they just ravished this man so much sexually -- they had a mat truck up that man's nose. Just the like the president C -- he did it because he could and when he did -- the consequences had devastating effects -- it brought his lovely world down -- one thing that did anger me to no end - he could have given more than 5% to his wife's charities!
The wonderful city of Atlanta was the backdrop for this movie and the city was shown in all of it's loveliness. The restaurant scenes were good as well - all the opulence of high society were displayed in this movie. I would have liked to have known a bit more background into the characters as it would have given a bit of light to Mr. Moore's personality in the film. A jovial, happy-go-lucky guy with dark corners all around. The entire town of Atlanta was in the palm of his hands. Yeah right. Dirty hands that is - who would have thought he was so dirty. His wife knew about it and asked him to quit whatever it was he was doing. He did not do it for he was the boss of it all. He thought he had it all. Yes, but he did not appreciate it. In a movie this intense I hardly had time to eat my popcorn as I was ever on the edge of my seat.
I enjoyed great acting by the all Black cast. Additionally, the actors showed they could grok their parts. You know, I really enjoy good deep acting (Like in Crash and Hotel Rwanda). Speaking of acting - I knew Vivica Fox could act - I never knew Shamar Moore could act as well. Well forgive me! I - let's face it - I never have seen him in a movie - just young and the restless! So give me a break -- I am a bit late -- I been working and have just retired -- when ya work sometimes ya don't see all the movies -- know what I mean? Again I digress - so sorry. Vivica - what can I say? She was outstanding and held the movie up along with Moore. I wish they could pair again - the entire cast would do well to perform in a Motives II -- I could do with a sequel. After you see this - you will also. I want to know what happened next? Will we ever know?
I tell you everything in this movie was so - so clean and tight and moved so flawless. The rhythm of the movie was so magical and believable. I loved the way they showed the human side of black people. I saw how black people really are - not animated - no black faced acting here. Real raw energy acting and it puts to rest that Black people can;'t act. This movie taught me how to revision an old theme of betrayal and it kept me in suspense and anger and, as I mentioned earlier - on the edge of my seat! The movie evoked lots of emotions as I cried for the main character as never I have (but then again - I am always crying about something!). Emotionally, it was a roller coaster of emotions -- sooooo delicious one moment then suspense the next and then sooo sad -- cause where he ended up -- he will have lots of time -- time think. I don't know if the movie was real or not - based on someone's life I mean. If so -- that man needs to be released today. The body of circumstances that surrounded the story was crucial to the story such that the sex scenes had to be intense in order to understand what drove the man to do what he did. He was getting truly laid in a very unorthodox way. Kudos to the director who kept the vision true and crisp.
On another level -- this movie was about ego and not taking care of self. How the character did not value his friends, wife, nor his life - his lovely life. Yeah right. A life of smoke and mirror held together by tattered threads of jealousy, envy, greed and lust -- honey too much lust is not good for the loins. The one thing missing from this movie was comedy -- there was not a comedic scene in the show and it was not needed for this character was a on a speedboat to a crash.
Remember, once when a person thinks he or she is invincible -- life comes and puts some obstacles in the way to test us all - and then the everlasting fall. This character fell and hit rock bottom. From heaven to hell is quite a fall - a deep fall of motives, betrayals, and the everlasting question: just who do you trust? In this movie, it certainly was not Spirit.
Crash (2004)
A Feminine Movie
This is a most complex movie. It winds and dines it way into your mind first, then into your heart.
What I saw while you were sleeping was a movie that was far ahead of its time. "21 Grams" is a movie of the same genre. The movie does not movie in the predictable pattern of the male energy movies. You know: beginning CLIMAX! end. This movie you will not be looking at and finding any "bad guy or girl". It was more like the theatre in the movie - with the fourth wall still in tact. Like mini vingettes I saw life splattered on the big screen (cause they is big now ya'll and loud) - or rather my TV screen) and it was disturbing as it was beautiful. In other words the movie focused on relationships and their forever bumpy ride inside of our very being. It is my firm persuasion that what I saw was a female movie - a movie of relationships.
It was the small microscopic view into people's lives - that fanacinated me. I never saw such raw truth run from story line - to story line. The most intriguing to me was the true statements the Black men made -- which were so true. Many times I have often wondered about why Blacks speak about themselves in such horrible ways - the brainwashing tactics of the old -- take so long to play out. The not so true - but it is OK to say them - slogans and things that came out of that man's mouth was - frightening to say the least -- young black people - listen and learn.
Then the racial tension and the misconceptions of others -- when they do not understand the language. The mistaken hostilities that a sole woman holds in her small body - I starred in wonder at how her anger keeps her so slim and grim. A black man made to witness a most shocking thing and being unable to do anything about it and yet -- behold -- their lives careen again and who is it now - that is sorry?
There are no conincidences in this world. All things run together like a smooth running water. Crash we do into each other all the time and when we are aware of the crashing -- how many of us seek another street to walk down and change the energy? I wonder how many? See this movie -- then -- go walk down another path -- quickly -- we need more new threads in the tapesty of this life we each are a part of.
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
A Very Intense and Insightful Movie
I found this movie most - how can I say - deeply insightful. I found it sad how women are treated in this world. How they are treated like chattel. The farmer had a choice - he did not have to give the girls away - if they had been boys he would have taught them to fend for themselves in spite of the death of the mother. I don't know if this is or is not what you say - - a "spoiler" - I just am relating what I have felt in this movie - as I have just seen it.
I have known about Geisha for sometime. I have heard them call 'whores' and I venture to say a high priced call girl - however now I know it is not true. They women have no choice -- it was either that or what? Go where? To what? In a land full of poverty and lost hope - with only their metaphors to guide them - I saw a country of men voided of emotion that they or whomever - devised a way for them to seek pleasure in the world of pain -- pain and competition they have created themselves. I saw men with no other type of life or vision of how to have relationships - come to a place in their own unconscious and seek deep deep dark hide-away to release their expectations on woman after woman - for they are so devoid of any way to grow into anything other than what? In the world of the geisha time stands still and nothing matters and moves without the say so of a man - and they do and are whatever it takes to please his "favor" - I found it horrifying. Just like today - the clothes we wear are made from the blood and sweat of young girls we never see - we don't know what they have to do to make our clothes and if we did -- and since I do - sometimes I rather be naked than to know of the horrible slave labor that is going on and we refuse to see it.
The way of the geisha is sad and full of mixed signals and deception - and how our dear young one believed in people to her detriment - her innocence preceded her and was so brilliantly captive and awe stricken - then the next moment I was horrified at how people can hurt another because of the life they were cast in to play.
Like a pair of unlucky dice I saw the young girl learn about life the hard way and suffice it to say it was heartbreaking as well are heart touching - I went from a scale of emotion -- my only damp question was -- "isn't there a gun in this place?" That girl needed to shoot lots of people cause I tell you if had a gun -- several people would be dead and I would be in jail -- enough of geisha for me. Another thing -- they need to teach these girls karate or something -- no one told her about a kick to the balls? It would have saved her in more than one occasion!
The actors were awesome -- why is this not up for an Oscar? It is surely worthy -- again another snub - this movie is great! I was completely enthralled and sadden - then hope at last comes -- my goodness - there is light at the end of any tunnel -- for I was so happy for the geisha -- whose life was changed by a small red ice cone.
Kudos - to the cast - to the director and to Isthak Perlman -- the violin out did it self in this movie -- marvelous -- marvelous - simply marvelous!
Æon Flux (2005)
Good Grief - Move over Angelina Jolie
Good grief -- this movie moves and grooves and took me on a wild ride! Every time Aeon whipped butt -- man they don't wake up! Aeon is a cult favorite and not too many people know about the character. It was in comics first then to TV with very graphic lovemaking and other things. I liked how they did everything -- I mean it was fantastic -- I was ducking and acting like she was fighting me -- I loved this movie -- it was -- way way out there - Aeon whipped butt better than Angelina - that is saying a whole lot!! Great action, great story line and it is really good acting. The story being explained and the way everything happened inside of the characters was out of this world. I found the movie to be ethereal and very well believable. I really enjoyed this movie - go and see it -- see what you think. Love and Peace Miss Desmond
The Gospel (2005)
Horrible Stay Away
This movie was the most disjointed movie I have ever seen. The that the main character could not sing was so distracting - they had to play around him. As he had never done Hip Hop -- it was horrible. Who told this man he was good at this? The story line was all male -- no female connection at all - the preacher repented -- however he did not do it in front of his congregation -- the acting was horrible -- never did understand the distance between the preacher and his wife until the last part -- the quality of the shots were off and I never felt the connection in this show between the characters - it was not worth the money and the music was not even as good as in the CD - too many things were wrong with this movie -- Miss Desmond
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
The Best One Ever
The Harry Potter series gets better and better because the actors are getting better. I would have liked a bit of focus on Diggery and a few more classes explored -- especially the quiddich match -- that would have been spectacular -- however I thought the pace was a bit fast - and I thought even if one had never read the book, it was done where they got the gist of it. The opening was excellent, excellent, as soon as I was thrown into that opening like the book -- I was hooked again and could remember every nuance of the book -- it was a brilliant opening! This is a great series and I hope they keep coming -- very well acted and very well directed -- Loved every exciting moment Miss Desmond
Crazy as Hell (2002)
An Ingenious Script and Acting
Man o man does Eric LaSalle know how to write mysterious and psychological stories. This movies is wild. Very wild -- kept me guessing and I had to watch it a second time. Micheal Beach is wonderful and all the actors were sooo good.
The theme of the movies with the crazy people --- and the final question is -- Just WHO is crazy? Kudos to the actors and of course Eric -- he is so fresh and delicious as Satan! Very well written and should have won an award. Don't stop writing Eric -- Micheal --- you are too much --- I really enjoyed this movie. I was riveted to the screen and could not move -- it really captured my imagination and I recommend anyone to watch this movie if it comes on either cable or satellite. You will not be disappointed. I wasn't! A very excellent movie.
