Complete different movie from the original.
29 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was worried about 4 hours long movie would include too much details and adding unnecessary emotional scenes to make the movie boring. Turn out that it was necessary to include those parts or the movie just does not make sense. The action scenes of this version is a lot more intense and the ending is so much better than the original. Including DarkSeid scenes and explaining the history of the defenders make the movie so much more attractive. The best scene in the original movie is probably the part with Superman being incoherent but in this version, that part is actually the worst but it is still not bad to watch. That is how much better this version is. I probably still would not recommend to watch four hours in one sitting. I would not mind to pay twice the money to watch this movie in two parts (well the movie is told in several different parts anyway). I give 9 stars for the details stories for Flash, Cyborg and DarkSeid. It is interesting to see Steppenwolf and final fights changes as well.

Seinto Seiya: Omega (2012– )

Not a good series.
13 January 2014
I put 5 stars out of 10 just because I am a fan since young so for being a fan of the series, I gave an honourable 5 but it can be worse.

First of all, I don't like the title. I know it is a spin off but it is just wrong to put a character's name on it when the main character is not that character.

Secondly, it really bothers me before that Brass Saints just beat up everyone and continue to be lower level Saints. They ends up to be the strongest Saints and defeated many godly opponents. I actually liked Hades saga because the Gold Saints were involving in a lot of fighting and showed their great powers. This new instalment just does not make any sense that Brass Saints just keep defeating Godlike characters for no obvious explanation or storyline. They just suddenly become so strong and overpowering anyone on their way. Gold Saints become secondary and we already know they cannot reach Omega level by now.

Thirdly, I actually find that the story is interesting in a certain way and the drawing technical is improved but it is about the links between the chapters. Nothing particularly makes sense between the chapters. Other fighting Manga like Narutos, Dragon Ball or One Piece shows improvement of the characters, they learn through their adventure and gradually become stronger as the story develops, which makes more sense and enjoyable to read/watch. Saint Seya Omega story is nice but lack of sense that other mega provides.

Probably the worst K-horror movie I have watched.
29 October 2012
Usually, K-Horror will provide a lot of tension or many shocks in the movie but this movie has neither.

The theme of the story is old but it is a horror movie so you can work on it. Apparently, the writer were writing the story lying in bed or the director was constant drunk before the set. They try to be Blair witch project but they are far from it.

There were no tension, the actors were inexperienced and some of these kind of movie at least provide some eye candies. Well, the eye candy were dead after 15 minutes (3 minutes that they were actually filming her).

The killing does not make any sense. Every death should not happen in that way. In my opinion, after they know how to deal with the threat, everyone of them should be alive... There were minimal of actions but they prolong it too much. I actually beg them to kill each quicker because they kept talking to themselves during the action scene.

I never regret about watching the movie, it was a time killer anyway. I ended up playing Diablo 3 during the movie, I fill my own actions for the movie. I would not recommend it to anyone else unless you have two TV and watch two different movies at the same time. (Yeah, I am crazy like that).

Hardly worth the money
6 June 2011
Well, the story is just dull. I simply find it as normal as it gets and totally predictable. The fact that Po just simply find a way to realize the marshal art by 'thinking' about it and call it destiny is none-sense. For any marshal art, the worriers need to practice and maybe in older age, they will find inspiration so they can realize the true arts and have the break through. Otherwise, you are some kind of genius and very suitable to practice marshal art and learn something from special scroll or something, then you can learn the true art. In the first movie, at least ShiFu somehow find a way to train Po so he becomes strong in the end. Still ridiculous but acceptable. In the second story, that part of the story is just so thin and Taichi just suddenly fall in onto the lab and he becomes the master of it… OK, if you just simply for a laugh and try to watch the cute panda, it is OK. However, what you have not seen in the second movie that is not in the first one? The story is not funny anymore, Panda is the same as before and the whole thing really just rushed all way to the end. The parents-son relationship is pretty thin as well. I really enjoyed the first movie and now I find the second one a disappointment. Again, watch in big screen may give the movie a few positive point and really no point to watch it again on small screen.

5 points for the average effort.

Good for first viewer. Should not be a sequel.
18 November 2010
There is a concept that to inherit the legacy of a successful movie and make a second part of the movie and call it a sequel or prequel. Usually, it is very difficult to make a good second movie because the new ideas have been seen before and probably the main characters are repeated as well. If you have a movie with a lot of material to talk about (Godfather 2) or the sequel is very long way from the original so you can introduce new materials (terminator 2), you may repeat the success. If you make the later parts of the movie very near the time of original, eventually, they will just look all the same such as Saw series. However, it is OK if you are a fan and people will follow whatever the story it was linking from before.

There are some really bad sequel movies like 'the return of living dead' movies; the series has no linkage whatsoever but it does not matter. Every movie has different theme and they were all low budget movie anyway, nobody really cares about them. I would say they are failures but not extremely bad cases.

Now, to the main topic, Gosa 2 is a movie with absolute no linkage to its predecessor. They both have about the same cast of characters just with the name changed. Several new ways of killing people but they are all similar. It is about murdering, revenge and supernatural, which is exactly the same tone as the first movie. Even the main actress, they again have chosen a singer/actress to take the leading role. I never understand why they do that. There are zero new surprising elements, zero new ideas, and even the characters are non-interesting. OK yeah, I was praising in the first movie, they had a pure school girl for a change, which is a fresher from watching models all the time in Western horror movies, now they added a model who is not even nude (just in swimming suit and got killed after couple scenes) in a brutal killing movie.

If you have not watch Gosa 1, I guess you may find this movie interesting. If you watch either one of them, don't watch another one. They are just the same movie repeated with different actors.

6 stars if you have not watch Gosa 1, 2 stars if you did. Average 4 stars.

Death Bell (2008)

Decent film, not a great one.
18 November 2010
I gave this film seven stars for the above average special effect they are using for an Asian movie. Normally, Asian movie are on pretty tight budget, I believe this movie received more investment than some others. The main actress is a singer turned actor, this is usually a disastrous move for western entertainment world but it does happen very often in Asian and she actually did a good job. Asian horror movies very frequently use young, innocent girl as main actress and she is perfect for that role. I must say, it works better than Western sexual appealing actresses. Most white girls are pretty tall and strong but with good body; I really think sometimes if they serious want to fight back, the bullies will get pounded.

Anyway, those young school girls and boys were as helpless as always but the only thing will work in this movie was their brain. Now another eastern culture people need to understand is that grades are everything; getting into good university is everything. There is something implied in the movie is about how those students were best students of the school and they have a bright future because they study hard and smart. Quite a few movies implies how stressful of the eastern education is and some writer thinks it is scary if he adds horror element on top of that stress will attract Audience. Based on the experience of the school in the UK, I really don't think English students will ever get it. Well, if you can think of it this way, you are fighting into the night after 1am in the morning trying to compete with one hundred thousands other students in the exam and there is a ghost start bothering you and try to rip your gut out, I think people will get disturbed by it.

By the way, I have seen way much more disturbing movies than it, so I am kinda numb. However, I thought among all the Korean horror movies, they do have some new ideas involving some psychological traps and supernatural activities. I liked the singer-actor small girl, it is refreshing to see a pure school girl for a change than teen-model wannabes getting slashed.

Worth a watch if you want to see something different. The movie is not that smart, direction was OK, story is fine if you are patient, please don't expect too much acting in a horror movie, in which I mean it is good enough. Try to get a friend grew up from Eastern Asian environment, you might enjoy this movie more if you know our culture.

This movie does not deserve a 8.1 score.
13 September 2010
I went to watch this movie because of the high score from IMDb. I did not find the trailer attractive at all and I thought it can be a movie I watch on DVD rather than going to cinema. I trusted IMDb score and went to watch it. Just to say I almost forgive every bad movie I watched and usually I see the good side of the movie.

First of all, for people think this movie is funny, your laughing point is really low. I would rather watch 'Lair Lair' again for some meaningless laugh than this one. There is no clever humour in this movie, I have no idea what this movie is trying to achieve in there jokes. I think the complaint of Scott's hair is a bit funny and also annoying. The romance between Ramona and Scott is not moving whatsoever and I think the writer trying to implement some hidden meaning to imply personal relationship of the real life. All I can say is that there are plenty of other movies have done a better job than this.

If I didn't believe what IMDb score said, I would probably rate this movie a little bit higher. Plus the screen I went was an absolute nightmare. I thought I was watching a pirate movie. Anyway, I rate this movie 5 as a fair score in my opinion. It can be a lot lower if I am being harsh.

This is not even a copy cat movie.
11 August 2010
I personally think that the movie itself was fine. The set up was pretty new. The idea is partially new and the actors were OK. The story was told pretty well with young girl with her dream and stuff. The movie never had a strong plot any way and the end was rushing pretty ridiculously fast, especially near the end, the little girl is basically non-exited and it makes me wonder why the movie gave her a strong role to begin with.

The thing I really hate about this movie is that they are like cutting and paste the old idea and insert them into the movie blindly just on the purpose of making this movie a remake. The fight sequence in the final tournament is almost identical as in the original. The tournament is supposed to be the highlight of the movie but I ended up feeling much stronger when the little girl achieved her dream.

I think a remake of a movie should still have some new idea which this movie did a fine job until the most important part of the story. Some of the ideas during the movie were old but it was OK, they could be treated it as a taste of the original. The ending just seemed that they ran out of ideas and did not know what they were doing. Well, at least they did not repeat the crane style the kid was using in the original. The final move was actually quite nice.

I don't even know if the fans of original Karate Kid would be appreciated the effort. There was some funny and warm moment that I thought the director and the writer did a good job. They did not do a job to the important plot.

By the way, the Karate is not equal to Kung Fu. Even in the original movie, they were not using Karate either. In fact, Kung Fu is originated from China, misusing Karate and thinks all the marshal arts can be categorised as Karate is plain stupid. Well, it is a movie review, not a marshal art contest review. Perhaps it does not matter that much.

The Box (I) (2009)

The movie simply does not make sense.
8 December 2009
Well, I get the gist of the movie and what it is trying to do but that is all I got. To my understanding, the movie is trying to state there is a higher being that is testing the humanity and see if they will make a decision rationally or emotionally. Turn out that most of time, people is let their emotion get the best of them and make a wrong or selfish decision.

Well, I might be wrong guessing the writer's intention but that is not really the point. What is up with making a thriller start but a science fiction middle story and end with thriller again? Some movies are not clearly defined but if the directors handle it carefully, it is still watchable but not this movie. The movie is jumping all over the place. There are part of story is similar to X-files but hardly defined well. Yes, you can argue that the movie is trying to make you think but normally you need to give people something to think about. There are so many short part of the movie does not make any sense. OK, it is a fictional movie but most good fictional movie will rationalize the illogical part of story and try to make it rational so audience and understand what they should think about. The box is hardly giving anything to me to think about.

I came out of Cinema just accepting the result. Well, I can skip about 1 hour worth of the movie if all I should care is the beginning and the ending. This is the kind of the movie I call it "trying too much". I was looking forward to this movie. I was disappointed after I watched it. I think the writer for "butterfly effect" or "momento" or, well, "the matrix" had the same purposes to their movie, those movies was handled so much better that you can relive the moments. Not in this movie I am afraid.

Watch in Cinema only once. Forget about DVD.
24 November 2009
OK, the sequel is better than the first movie, that is my honest opinion, but it is only because the first movie was bad enough to make the sequel a better one. If you are a fan, fair enough, you would probably like it but I don't understand how you become a fan in the first place. I watched the movie because it is selling so well and I actually thought they made a much better movie than the original.

The acting itself is pretty bad as always. The story does not make much sense and the special effect is really nothing special if you watched 2012 (which by the way one of the worst acting with amazing special effect). I liked the area they are shooting the movie though, I enjoyed more watching the beautiful more than I enjoy the movie. Kristen Stewart was the only actress I thought had any acting skill which is still not very good. I thought at least I can watch some good story this time involve more with the history of the Vampires and Werewolves but it is still not very well explained. OK, you can argue that the movie is not going for that part of the story but the emotion aspect of the main characters. Too bad the love story were hardly romantic or touching or any kind. It might be the immaturity of the acting skills of the actors and might also be simply too hard to make the movie emotional.

The main topic of movie was not clearly identified. Sometimes you can mix several ideas in a movie so it can indulge several emotions from the audience but in my opinion, it is a very dangerous thing to do. Movies try too much always end up in disaster. Fortunately, there are always special effects to save the day and it does look pretty cool to see the wolf changing action, but that is about the only thing that is impressive.

It is a mediocre movie with unclear intention. It is not really a good romantic movie because there are very thin bonds between the couple (or their acting was so weak, I could not feel it). There are not enough actions to count it as an action movie. There is not even a strong story line to support the movie if you are comic fans. I would rather watch Buffy couple more times than watch this movie again. By the way, Buffy is one of the most overrated TV shows I have ever seen. I still prefer it over New Moon.

Above average movie at best.
8 June 2009
It has been a long wait for me for this movie and as successful as its predecessors, I believe his movie had earned a lot of fan base. Now, I have to say I feel disappointed with this movie. Don't get me wrong, it is a good movie with a lot of actions. However, that is about it. The actors did a OK job but the movie did not provide them a lot of material to act. The special effect was brilliant but so as a lot of other Hollywood action/fiction movies. We all know what we are looking for is not the great acting and the so many movies possess great special effect and honest to say, it is getting old.

I don't think the acting job in TDK was as good as everyone says other than Heath Ledger's joker. Its special effect is great but it is just easier to show off when you have big robots running around. However, TDK is so much more enjoyable than T4. The main reason is the storyline. T4's storyline is very poor. It is OK to assume everyone coming to watch the movie already know the story but there are some details still need to be explained. I am not going to give spoilers but it has been long time I think the movie was too short. It simply focused on the actions too much and the whole movie was not only rushed. They were messy and confusing at some point. Well, the whole story was probably too simple to get confused but writers can do a lot more to make this movie much more enjoyable.

In terminator 1 and 2, actions and special effect was top of the league back in their time, but most importantly, the story was attractive and viewers wanted to see the end and feel touched. T3 loses the touch and basically loses originality as well. T4 creates a new era for terminator series but the story was just too poorly construct. The focus on the movie was wrong, at least for me, I went to cinema to watch the story involving with the robots, not the robots.

The movie had no urgency, no thrill, little excitement because of all the money invested in the special effect. It is sad to say, merely above average movie. I hope T5, T6 will take my advice and contains a much better story or I don't see this successful series continues its success any more.

Beautiful (2008)
10/10
Better than you think. Try to stay with the movie.
15 April 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I think it is probably one of the most disturbing films I have watched since "Teeth". I was quite emotionally involved throughout the movie. "Teeth" is probably presenting many men's nightmare and "beautiful" is probably an extreme description of "men are pigs". I think the main actress would love to have the ability that the girl in "teeth" has. I try not to give a spoiler but you will understand me when you watch both movies.

This is a movie though that I think is better than "Teeth" in terms of acting. The main actress is indeed a pretty girl but her acting skill is great. To me, a lot of actress' break out movie is not because she can act; it is because she "dares" to act. Just to say that she sacrifice a lot to make this movie work. Just like a lot of Asian movie, they try to give you an image that you have not think about whole lot but it is in the real life and then they emphasise the image.

There are scenes in the movie that I actually think most guys will do that when fantasising their favourite girls and most guys will not think that is a big deal. I recommend them to watch this movie and think about how your favourite girls are violated by those actions if they find out about them.

===Warning: Spoilers below=== I remember one dialogue from the rapist in the movie making me think about beat him to death: Rapist: I did not commit the crime, I did not rape you. I am the victim here. I am the one got raped. Your beauty raped me. You are the real criminal.

The policeman's reply to the main actress is also sick as hell: I know he is a sick bastard but it is partly your fault. You pretty girls always go out there with make ups and trying to seduce men by wearing short shirt in the winter time. You are asking for these yourselves.

And then he asked her to tell him very details about the rape.

===sorry about the translation, I tried my best to jug my memory. It is pretty much the gist, though. ==== In conclusion, it has good acting, good directing and good storyline. Recommend for adults, not only because the adultery scenes, I don't know younger audience will get the idea.

Teen drama with pretty people in.
18 February 2009
It is basically a show contains bunch of new comers and most of the actors and actress should be originally commercial models. Now I hope you set your mind set straight and think about this. Try to image some of the playboy centerfolds trying to act in a show and how terrible it will be. However, it will be watched by millions because of the girls (see baywatch before?).

Now this new show will be similar. There are pretty people and not much of acting and some of the rejoining actors whose acting skill is non-improved whatsoever. However, if you are not looking for Desperate Housewives or 24 or some other serious drama and just want to watch some drama flick to kill time. This drama is definitely for you because its script is as plan as it gets.

I would not recommend this drama to older and more serious people. Teen flicks. Your Choice.

Great movie but not the best movie ever.
28 July 2008
Please note that spoiler might be in this comment.

I made a mistake when I go watch this movie. I live in the UK and the movie comes out a bit later than the US and I read comments on IMDb and guys has rated it as the best movie in the history surpass The GodFather and one of the comments told everyone Harvey Dent is the Two Face that I thought the preview of the movie covered it very nicely and it ruined my mood a little bit. I went to the cinema expecting to see a movie as the best in the movie history. To be honest, I was disappointed in the first half hour.

It was the usual stuff that talking about the batman against the gangs, he kicked their asses and gangs afraid of him and try to kill him blah blah…It is fun to see some more realistic gangsters in the superhero movies but they are certainly no Corleone family. I thought the idea of normal superhero in a superhero movie is very good but like the Batman Begins, I really could not see some of the moves the actors are throwing, which normally I want to see in the action movies. (Die Hard series and most of the HongKong fighting movies do that very well). I believe the theme of dark has some thing to do with it.

However, it gets better later on in the movie. Turn out that this is a movie not only about the action, it is psychological as well. The movie was saved by the great performance of the Joker who is playing the mind games rather than attacking with only force. The whole world was just his playground and his goal is trying to turn it to darkness. I did not prepare to see something like because I was not sure what I was expecting except the great action scenes. The movie speaks for itself. It gets better and better towards the end. It is not about the hero saving the city. It is about how people will listen to whatever they want to hear and the outcome only depends on them. It is what the real world is about, powerful mind try to cover up the bad and make sacrifices to make people think the world is wonderful because when most people in the society think everything negatively, the world will just be destroyed itself.

I really thought the producers are great to bring that out and show it to us very well and I thought that it is impossible to present this well in any kind of hero movies. Everyone in the movie plays great in their role (well, for the cast of the movie, it is impossible for them to play bad.) The direction was great and they picked great actors in this movie. I would not give this movie a higher mark than the GodFather because the acting performance still been disturbed by many action scenes, which is not the point making this movie great. 9 stars from me just because I don't think it is the best movie ever. On normal days I will give it 10 stars.
