The Originals: The Feast of All Sinners (2017)
better and bitter
The Originals is a universe that exists around the immortal and savage mikaelsons who have razed cities, slaughtered socities and drank rivers of liquor. The mayhem of an eternal life, The strecthing of each of those eggs, each broken and reweaved. Each wound of the heart eternal, bloody and dripping.
For such a family, the always and forever hat was promised and honored, one couldn't ask for a better or bitter end. Even on the sadness that pervades, one can still find solace of hope.
Manhattan Nocturne (2016)
An interesting watch
Despite what the low rating may indicate, the film in an interesting watch.
The plot may appear at times raw and unappealing but some elements of the movie are make it worthwhile.
First, The story line is exquisite. The mystery , investigation and are crafted elegantly. The credit mostly may go to the source i.e. the book.
Second, It provides good and many a times weird but unique characters that at least most of the times makes sense. By this I am referring to 5 important characters. Hero, wife, the beauty, the mad artist and the Rich Bald guy ( Nice set of characters right).
Third, Realistic is the word I would like to add as a keyword. Realism refers to acknowledging both the good and the bad that is possible. The mistakes that people make for a myriad of reasons. This movie acknowledges that fickle nature of most of us, the bad we are capable of , the mistakes and the reasons behind them. One scene in particular gives us a look at the beauty of humanity and I hope the viewers will know which.
Fourth, Perspectives. This can be considered as a amalgamated side effect of point 3 and 4. The movie allows us to understand the unique characters and their decisions. It lets us think of the reasons, desires and all that drives the characters. Their motivations. At times the actions of the characters may appear monstrous, but on delving at it these actions become understandable.
The acting of Adrien Brody and Campbell Scott are excellent and make all the above points meaningful. The narration part of Adrien Brody is actually one of the best things in the movie. Now I am even looking forward to reading the book.
Luke Cage (2016)
Neither better nor worse.
After the undeniable glory of Daredevil and the gritty experience of Jessica Jones , Luke Cage had a lot to catch up to. It may not be as deep as DD or as nonchalantly beautiful as JJ but Luke Cage has its charm.
The gangster style( more The Wire than The Godfather) universe puts Luke Page apart form its other peers. The same style of cinematography, witty dialogues makes Luke Cage wonderful. For me, who hasn't read the comics, Luke Cage offered a hero who was down to earth , human and unique. More screen time for Claire Temple was something well deserved.
The show may not gauge up to the high standards of the Daredevil, is a good show nonetheless.
Stranger Things (2016)
A wonderful tale
Stranger things was stranger than most of the shows I have watched, and I have watched quite a few of them. The show starts off as a tale of an abduction and melds the paranormal or supernatural to the mix elegantly. It slowly increases the dose of the mystic in time making it part of the show in a flawless manner. The best part of the show me were the kids, brave yet foolish and the laws of friendship they faithfully abide. Winona Ryder as Joyce was a master-stroke, she portrays the vulnerable and living mother with perfection. Each of the characters including the ever-encouraging biology teacher was crafted beautifully. One of my favorite moments if the show was where Joyce talks to El before trying to track will, it is undeniably exquisite. One can notice her love for Will and also the care she takes for a strange child who is trying to help her. One cannot deny the chemistry of the three little machos.
All in all it was an awesome show , good script, good dialogues, epic acting and novelty. Hats-off to Duffer Brothers and waiting for season 2.
10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
Refereshing
10 Cloverfield Lane is not a movie for everyone. Although my taste generally does not include bizarre movies like this, it was a refreshing experience all the same. It is different from most of the other movies I watch and the only other movie beating it in on my bizarre scale was No Country for Old Men. It actually challenged my opinions of movies. The mindset that Michelle(Ms.Winstead) that Michelle embodies is masterfully done. One can many a times predict her actions and that's actually a good thing, providing us with a nearness to the character that one frequently comes across in movies of the modern times.
Person of Interest: Return 0 (2016)
Heartful Finale, as good as can be asked
It is not everyday that you come across a show like POI. It is an enchanting blend of suspense, thrill and humanity. It is different and beautiful. A finale is a tough thing to pull-off and most often than not is lacking. But this episode is a Finale should be, an episode encompassing all the aspects of the show and enlightening the truth of the show and the characters. What most of us forget is that the humanity of the characters is the most important part of any story. Bringing that into a tale like POI is a herculean task by itself. The funeral and the cop and the truth are splendid. Shaw's kill in the episode is as pivotal as any other scene in the finale.
The Flash: The Runaway Dinosaur (2016)
One of the best episodes
I have been apprehensive about the show since the beginning. At the end of The Flash's first season I was so disappointed that I stopped watching the show for quite some time. Then I watched again for one reason or another and to my surprise the second season got interesting. I was hopeful that the season and the show would become better. This marvelous episode just reduced my apprehension a lot. This gives me hope for a better DC TV universe. Hats-off to Kevin Smith for this enchanting episode. For all superhero Nerds out there, this is a must watch show, better than Arrow, as good as Constantine and Jessica Jones. Although it is not on par with Daredevil, it is different and refreshing. Best episode of the show without doubt. Live long and Watch.
