The Deer Hunter (1978)
Depressing overrated
I only watched this film all the way through so I could give an honest review. I got bored and remained bored to the end. I didn't care about the characters at all. And as for Christopher Walken with his huge over inflated ballon shaped head, he just annoyed me... I'm glad someone burst the damn thing!
Point Break (1991)
Dire, pathetic but strangely watchable
Utter nonsense of a script. Even with the sound turned off you can follow the story and predict what will happen next. Wooden acting. Over the top action and stupid dialogue. I cringed at the stupidity of it all... But... I sort of enjoyed it. I enjoyed laughing at this dire nonsense. But I did enjoy it in a peculiar way. A film i love to hate and vice versa.Watchable nonsense
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Hugely influential sci fi masterpiece
I first saw this film on t.v. one evening when I was around 8 years old, I didn't like it, I wanted action and scary aliens and bad ass robots rather than just a boring computer 'Voice'!
However the visuals stuck with me for years.
Then I saw it again when I was around 18 years old and it's been in my personal top 10 films ever since!
I finally got it, I finally understood why it avoids sci fi cliches.
Despite it being one of my favourite films I do understand why it is regarded as boring with nothing really happening, it's a film you have to watch while being on the right wavelength for it.
It's the concepts and hypnotic atmosphere that make it a truly great film, rather than action etc.
When I'm on the right wavelength I am transported to the 'infinite and beyond' , and because nothing is explained it leaves me spellbound until at the end of the film I snap back into the 'here and now' and I think to myself... 'WOW!! that really is one of the greatest films ever made' !
In my opinion if a film can leave that much of an impression, even after seeing it hundreds of times then it has truly succeeded!
White Chicks (2004)
The definition of NOT FUNNY
Bloody stupid rehash of 'Some like it hot' (which IS actually funny.)
Totally cr*p, I'm not gonna waste any more space on this film.
Not funny!
Zodiac (2007)
Top quality Thriller
Quite simply Fincher's best film. I saw this film on its release, it stayed with me for months afterwards. I got the blu ray and watched it again, it raised more questions in me so I watched it again and again. I became intrigued by the subject and did a bit more research into it. I keep coming back to this film, it's so rewatchable, revealing more detail each time.
If a film can do this then it has surely succeeded. Brilliant film making. Very Nearly perfect.
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Sugar coated garbage
Not being a fan of musicals, I was very surprised to find myself actually wanting to watch this film one evening when my partner suggested it, so we sat down to watch , I tried to endure as much as I could, I sat through as much of the 'X factor' style dance sequences and 'M&S advert' sugar coated plot as was humanly possible, until I could bear it no longer! I turned to my partner and told her I can't stand anymore of this!! To my surprise she agreed! Utter rubbish.
I suggested we watch a proper musical like 'Singin' in the rain' which we did and absolutely loved it!
The Greatest Showman is sugar coated crap, Boring and a total waste of time!
Rubbish!
Filmworker (2017)
Leon, A dedicated man.
A fascinating insight into one of Kubrick's faithful assistants. Essentially this film is aimed at Kubrick fans and film fanatics, but it goes much deeper than that and has the power to absorb anyone who views it. Leon is a dedicated, devoted worker bee who strived tirelessly to help Stanley archive his vision. Stanley Kubrick is obviously a genius, an enigma, and Leon was emersed in this magical world, he worked his fingers to the bone for a man he obviously admired and this devotion comes across, even though the demands Kubrick put on him took it's toll. I would give my right arm, left arm, heart, lungs , body and soul to have worked for Stanley Kubrick, Leon Vitali was lucky enough to to have been the man who did!
Paranormal Activity (2007)
Is this supposed to be scary ?
All I can say is this is a very poor film that I was looking forward to seeing but it fails miserably on every level. A series of contrived scenes using a hand-held / static camera that does add a certain amount of atmosphere but had the potential to be much more powerful and scary if only it had a better plot, acting and direction. Making the viewer jump with a sudden loud noise does not make a horror film into a good horror film in my opinion. maybe something good can come out of this when a talented director makes a decent film after seeing this drivel. a waste of my time and money. but I'm glad it moved me enough to write a review.
