Chicken Little (2005)
Fair enough
I saw the movie last night (Nov.4th) with my Mom and kids. The movie was fair enough. It had some cute moments, which for me were pop culture references. The movie wasn't too original but is a good flick to take the kids to. My boys enjoyed it, but not as much as other Animation films that have been released in the past year. They aren't very harsh critics at the age of 4 and 6, but didn't seem to laugh as much as I thought they would. It held their attention however. I wouldn't really suggest running out to see it right away. We did because our town only has a population of 4,500 and we rarely get first run flicks. Enjoy your popcorn and soda. Have fun!
Victor/Victoria (1982)
Fun to Watch
Julie Andrews, James Garner, Lesley Ann Warren, Robert Preston and cast are just brilliant. This movie is a hoot to watch. I really enjoyed the visuals, set decorations and costumes in the movie. It was probably a risk in the early 80's to do a musical, but thank goodness this movie was brought to screen. It is fun, campy and brilliantly casted. The only movies I had know Julie Andrews from was Mary Poppins and Sound of Music when I first saw this. It was wonderful to see her in this spunky, liberating and comedic role. James Garner was very handsome (although the man is old enough to be my grandpa). The music sung by Julie is superb and right on. Lesley Ann Warren is the icing on the cake for this movie. I don't think I have seen her in a better role. The rest of the ensemble cast is just as talented. This movie is one of my all time favorite "modern" musicals... Enjoy watching it with a big bowl of popcorn or something carb friendly. Your choice.
Ice Castles (1978)
A Good flick
I first saw this movie around the time we got cable back in 1982. Not only did I become obsessed with watching this film (Along with "Oh Heavenly Dog" and "Victor/Victoria") but I thought I would surely marry Robby Benson. The movie isn't sophisticated or mind boggling, but it is a romantic, good hearted, and honestly written movie. Ice Castles focuses on the story. It stays true to the form of movies I enjoy watching. It was a tear jerker of a movie when I was 8 and it still is today, partly because of the song "Looking Through The Eyes of Love". I can go grocery shopping today and hear the song overhead and will well up with tears. I instantly get this profound image of Robby Benson in one of the movies most pivotal scenes. Once anyone sees this movie then can they understand why I wanted to marry him. It's a quality picture and a nice time to spend watching the tube, especially on a chilly fall day with hot chocolate.
Oh Heavenly Dog (1980)
A Classic
I first saw this movie when I was 8 years old. We had just gotten our cable, which was a big treat back in 1982. I use to get the program guide and mark all the times "Oh Heavenly Dog" was on. I became a bit obsessed with this movie. There was something about how goofy and sad Chevy Chase's character appealed to me. I was so intrigued by the beauty and elegance of Jane Seymour's presence. When you combine the two in the movie, everything seemed to fall into place. It was simple and honest. The movie isn't a dramatic masterpiece but its not crap either! As a child and as an adult I still feel the same way. This movie is a warm fuzzy. It is fun to watch, has a good plot and I really like the songs in the opening and ending. It's a classic. Somewhat an unknown among many, but a favorite of mine.
Into the West (2005)
A Must watch!
Into the West was a great mini series, had a wonderful cast of actors/actresses, and many of the images from the TV show stayed with me for days. I was quite impressed with the depiction of the various Native American tribes. This show was not only a great refresher of American History, but I can proudly say I learned something new. I have never been a big fan of the "western type" movies on the small or big screen. However, I would not put Into The West into this category. Into The West was a historical and theatrical reenactment of days long ago (with a positive Hollywood twist). It was a pleasure to watch and I would easily recommend it to all my family and friends.
