The Coroner: Capsized (2015)
Good episode EXCEPT for the offensive terminology
People are not illegal. The writers of this show seemed to forget that and instead used social conservative (aka offensive and deplorable) terminology to describe human beings. Jane (the main character) even says "illegal refugees". How can you be an illegal refugee?! You are either a refugee or you are not. Still, the episode was otherwise pretty good and I liked that Mick was actually doing the moral thing in trying to help the refugees. Davey seems to have a heart too, even though he - like Jane - does unfortunately use the word "illegal". I'm working my way through the series in order and I still hope the two main characters can start being better people like Mick.
The Coroner: That's the Way to Do It (2015)
Awful episode after the first two episodes were good
This episode was just had an awful premise. The show pointing out supposed hypocrisy of the mayor having a moral stance against Punch & Judy (which teaches kids that violence is okay) while having a relationship with a male prostitute in the privacy of her own home (or hotel room) is like comparing a mountain to a mole hill. The victim (the mayor) was also written to be incredibly unlikeable which was also unbelievable because if she was that way, she wouldn't have been elected mayor of a small town. I'm watching the series for the first time right now. I hope the rest of the series doesn't try to preach against progressivism like this episode did. And public Punch & Judy performances belong in the middle ages, not the 21st century.
The Madame Blanc Mysteries: Episode #2.3 (2023)
This is one of the weakest episodes I've seen, unfortunately
I've been watching every episode in order and right now this is the latest one I've watched. I enjoy most of the entire cast and in previous episodes, they've all seen for the most point enjoyable. This episode contained a lot of conflict between regular characters and returning characters that seemed a bit off-putting to me (Dom's ex being the brunt for the most part). His tearing up a letter she wrote at the very end without even reading it seemed a bit overdone for someone who is usually one of the more likeable characters (meaning Dom) in the cast).
Also, something that bugged me greatly is that Jeremy sent the doorkeeper of the theater to his death (not on purpose, but still) by having him go clean a dressing room that he clearly wasn't keen on cleaning and still was reluctant when bribed. Yet away the doorkeeper went to clean that dressing room and he ended up dead on the floor as a result. What was Jeremy's reaction to learning that his actions led to the death of another person? We'll never know because Jeremy didn't appear once more in the episode after that. He had to have known the doorkeeper was killed, but it will just have to be imagined that Jeremy shrugged when told and quickly went back to sipping large amounts of gin on the back patio of his mansion. I can't think of any other series or movies where a completely innocent character died as a result of someone else's order and that fact not even be brought up afterwards at some point. Kudos to the writers of Madame Blanc for casually red-shirting (Star Trek reference) a character like that. The main character, Jean White (Madame Blanc if you will) also had an underwhelming ending scene at the end when she's searching for a very expensive faberge egg with her former-enemy-turned-friend and when learning where the egg (which wasn't an egg after all) was, showed just a subtle amount of excitement. Maybe because the treasure wouldn't be hers is why Jean seemed a bit "meh" about the find, but finding that treasure was one of the show's subplots and it seemed a bit anticlimatic. I also think Dom did a dumb thing by quickly ripping up the letter his ex had written. It could have been important like that she has just 6 months left to live. It could have also been a sincere apology and her wishing him and their daughter all the best. Or there could have been a letter just for their daughter to forgive her. If it was Georgina just trying to manipulate him again, then rip up the letter.... AFTER reading it. Okay, review done, lol. I hope the rest of the season is stronger and more engaging than this one.
Parallèles (2022)
Very good show and perfectly fine with English dubbing
Those who keep saying "Watch it in French" or that it's only good in French are wrong, didn't give it time, or know the language themselves. The show is perfectly good with the actors and actresses who dubbed it in English EXCEPT for the unconvincing older voice used for the younger sister. I found the show to be very good with neat science fiction elements and convincing drama and comedy. The science fiction itself has been done before, but it was well-explained. And again, the English dubbing was better than previous attempts I've seen/heard. Those who have vision problems or who don't know French and can't just focus on watching the screen for the subtitles (which is actually closed-captioning I think and not true subtitles) don't have much of a choice but to listen to the dubbing.
