1 man, 23 Polar Bears, Remote Canada.

Unlike the average wildlife documentaries this one entertains right from the start. Ewan Mcgregor charismatic as every narrates and presents this and takes his wife along for the company.

I bought this fairly recently because it was mentioned in the 'long way round' DVD and when i eventually found it I had to buy it. Ewan as an actor was built for these sorts of things and seems very comfortable in the presenting. He speaks about what he see's so truthfully and from the heart that you can't help feeling he speaking directly to you as one of his friends.

When he finally sees the polar bears he's like a kid in a sweet shop and he brims with happiness. The place in which he stays is a remote Canadian town, called Churchill and looks a lot like the set used for the film 'The Thing'. The information given to us by Ewan is very clear and precise although most of it comes from the people he meets along the way. He is a great people person and is brilliant around the locals and the kids.

The DVD runs for about an hour, would of been nice if it was a touch longer but it really doesn't matter, the DVD has photography from the trip and has scene access as standard. The trip if filmed like the 'Long Way Round' would of made it an essential purchase but as it stands people should only buy it if they are a fan of the 'Kilted' one or are wildlife fans. My view is that it is a very funny documentary full of interesting facts and I am pleased with the purchase.

An adventure full of good bits and great bits.

I bought this DVD just before christmas'04, after reading an interview with Mcgregor on the internet. This is kind of a 'Michael Palin' documentary, but with two good friends and very funny camera man. The DVD gives a personal account of the journey that when you watch it you feel like you have become a member of the team and after a short while you begin to connect emotional with both of the guys. It is often very funny and the humour generated is simply two men having the time of their lives while seeing and experiencing some of the world's most beautiful places and unusual cultures and traditions. Ewan Mcgregor in particular is amusing and you learn is very good at impressions and coming up with comedic anecdote's about his life. The book that accompanies the series (also the same name) goes hand in hand with the footage you see on the DVD, and becomes essential reading when it comes to filling in the blanks left out of the footage. The book reads like a diary and is littered with banter between the guys and honest accounts of their feelings about their lives and how it reflects on the trip. I recommend this DVD to anyone who is a fan of the 'Kilted One' but to anyone who enjoys an adventure.
