Original and thought-provoking

I've watched this film by Korean auteur Lim Tae-gue at Mar del Plata International Film Festival. I believe it was its first screening outside South Korea, and the audience was pleased.

The way the father-son relationship is portrayed is far from usual, and this unique approach is complemented with parallelisms with historical events in their country that add a lot to the mix.

The lead actor carried the weight of the film in his shoulders without hesitations, and the rest of the cast was great too, specially his on-screen son.

The director was extremely kind in the Q&A section, showing he knew what he was doing and where he wanted to go with his story, and I think he achieved his goals with this fine piece. In his own words, it all started when he asked himself: "Why can't I get along with my father?"

If you can, go and see it. It's totally worth it.
