Die Laksman (1995)

This was so near the truth that Scholtz was almost taken to court

Even if this was fiction the facts was not always.Scholtz and his team was almost taken to court by the Atomenergy corporation(AEC) when the first 2 episodes have aired as they explain that some people are not going to difriniate between fact and fiction thus thinking some facts are true when they arent.

The rest of the series was almost not aired but after the case was tossed the series resumed on tv but the first 2 episodes storyline was tweaked in the rest of the series thus ignoring the happenings in the first 2 episides completely.

But back to the story this one is a classic and the acting is as always the best south africa can deliver.

Jan Scholtz made a couple tv series in this genre like(die binnekring,skoppensboer and The 4de kabinet) all of them fiction but undertones of the truth trying to expose state secrets.

If you can find this give it a look you wont be dissapointed

Another hit from Scholtz

Its one of those feel good tv series from the 80's that just makes your heart warm.

It feutures some of south africas best Actors including the Beautiful Joanie Combrink(gazette,Reccie) Analisa Weiland (7de laan,torings and Babbelkous) and Ryno Hatting(kiepie en kandas , Wolwedans in die skemer)

Its very rare as it is a afrikaans tv series made by Tv1 wich is very hard to come by

But if you are lucky to find a copy you wil most surely enjoy this masterpiece of a story

Mattewis en Meraai (1983)

One of PG's best

This series is so charming.At only 10 episodes long, its a perfect set for the story of Matewis en Maraai. It starts in the 1920's and take you all the way to the 1970's early 80's.

If your able to find this series give it a look its the most precious story i have ever witnessed.

And it includes some of south africas best veteran actors like Anette Engelbrecht,Sandra Fereira,Marga van Rooy en Trudie Taljaard sadly the last three have passed away in recent years but they left us with all thier beloved work wich wil be remembered by us for years to come

Eendag vir Altyd (1985)

Suspense and Drama

Eendag vir altyd(edge of innocence in America and international) is another Afrikaans movie made in the 80's in south Africa.The 80's in south Africa brought us the most beautiful movies and television series ever to be made.

This movie is really good and the story is strong.

The movie follows Hein Mallan(Alwyn van der merwe) who went to a party with his girlfriend afterwards she was so drunk.Hein insists that he drive them both home but she doesn't want to ,saying thats shes not drunk and will drive home no problem.So both of them gets into the car and on the way the girlfriend ran over one of Heins friends.He gets out to help him but he dies.At the same moment the girlfriend panic and flew the scene the police arrive and see hein with the dead body Hein now also panics and runaway.

What follows is a interesting drama full of action and suspense And it futures some of south Africa BEST AWARD winning Actors including Brunhilde Van Rensburg en Gavin Van den Bergh

Jannie totsiens (1970)

Whats it like in a madhouse

This movie is really good,but at times very hard to watch because it shows you in black and white,no strings attached what goes on behind the curtains of a madhouse.Those times when the visitors are not there. And it makes you sad.Because it hurts to see people in that state and you wonder how did they get that way.

Jans Rautenbach was again the director of this masterpiece he did not make much movies in his career but when he did it was quality movies.Always takes you deep into a person's soul.(some of his other notible work includes pappalap(1969),eendag op 'n reen dag(1973) en die kandidaat(1968)

The stars of this movie was as they always was phenomenal Katinka Heyns was the star in almost all of Jans's movies and in this one she gave oneofher bet performances Katinka is a director herself and everything she touches is gold for example(fiela se kind(1987),stories van Klara viljee(1993,paljas(1996) and most recently Die wonder werker(2013)

Cobus rossouw also gave a remarkable performance as he did I everything that he did As an actor (his movies also includes masterpieces like:my broer se bril(1973),die kandidaat(1968),liefde vir lelik(1974) and most recently Faan see trein(2014))

As this is an Afrikaans south African film it's really rare and hard to come by but at the time of writing this review Jans Rautenbachs movies were all released to YouTube on his channel just after his death

So if you got the time go and check this one out

King Hendrik (1965)

If something ain't broken don't fix it

This south-African gem is funny witty and written with comedy perfection. The acting is superb and the pace well done.

This movie contains Afrikaans and English dialog and is one of the many Afrikaans English movies released internationally.(other notable movies with Afrikaans English language includes:Kruger miljoene(Kruger Millions 1967),hoor my lied(hear my song 1968),die professor en die prikkel pop(the professor and the beauty queen 1968),Dirkie 1969) and Die 5de seisoen(the fith season (1977)

The story focus on a small fictional town in South Africa Swellemdam.The tourists are not as much as they used to be so The town comes together to figure out a way to make Swellemdam great again.So they start to brainstorm and 2 of them find out that the town was never Incorporated into south Africa therefor their independent.Exactly here is where shits hit the fan

Relax laugh out loud and lesson learned never fix something that's still functioning.

Die Afspraak (1974)

Mestery or not??

The movies starts out mysterious and you are clueless.But as the movie continues the puzzle pieces is thrown into your lap and you can fit them into the right places.

The thing that makes this movie so good is the fact that you don't know if the main character is bad or if hes good.Its that projection that's going to make that you don't know if you can trust him root for him or not.

Its well written and directed by Jan Breytenbach and one of the best psychological thrillers to ever be made in AFRIKAANS.

Its hard to find but if you search hard enough you will find it.

The reason for the 7\10 rating is because it could have been longer it ended too soon but the overall payoff is amazing and it comes to an epic well made conclusion.

'n Pawpaw Vir My Darling (2015)

Kommin!!! but that's the point

Yes this movie is "kommin verby" but that's the point.

If you watch this movie with any other mind set you will be disappointed and you WILL slam this movie as ridiculous.

The story focus on a small town called (Damnville) and is told through the eyes of a dog called Chaka.Its interesting because you get to see something through a dogs eyes.

The comedy sometimes is over the top but still enjoyable and some of the scenes is just hysterical.

It futures some of South Africas top Actors including Deon Lotz,Sandra Prinsloo,Willie Esterhuizen,Lida Botha and Brunhilde Van rensburg

College Road Trip (2008)

This is another great walt Disney family comedy and with 3 great comedians in the main cast:Kym Whitley,Martin Lawrence and Raven Seymone HOW CAN YOU NOT LAUGH and have a good time.

The story is hilerious and it depicts every single truth that we get when we have to take a trip with our parents

Is it the best comedy??

No!!!

But its great clean family fun and you don't have to worry about showing this to anyone.

Give it a go and have a good laugh. Raven's facial expressions are priceless.

The Pillow Book (1995)

Erotic but flawless

This movie is one of the great arts movies Ewan Mcgreggor ever made.

The story starts slow and in the beginning you are going to wonder if your watching the rite movie.

Its a very unique film by Peter Greenaway and its also filmed in a very strange way.

Some of the scenes are in black and white but the rest is in colour.

Ita also a multi lingual film including :English, Cantonese, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, French

Inbetween the most beautiful french love songs are sung which accompanies the "pillow book" scenes very well

Although this film contains a lot of nudity both male and female it should not be viewed for that reason but for the art of it.

This is definitely a movie you must see if you love indie artsy movies.

Like i said its filmed very strangely but once you get the drift is amazing

8/10 deserved.

Die Spaanse Vlieg (1978)

a Comedy farce

Dirk de Villiers has done an amazing job.

This comedy follows a Spanish dancer who has a fling with 3 south African gentlem and with one of them concieves a child(this part we don't see you know this info walking into the movie

One day all 3 of them they receive a letter from her saying that she will come and visit.

This is where the funny starts to happen

Bc now all 3 men who is friends and live in the same neighbourhood are scrambling about this letter trying to figure out who is the father

There's a huge twist in the end and some will not get it at all its complicated and only the in depth movie watchers will get it

So if your just a relaxing movie watcher don't see it for you wont get it and will be disappointed

Also starring is south africaa best including Marie Du Toit,louw verwey,Rina Nienaber,Lida Botha,anna cloete en Karin Kirtzinger.

creepy Facebook movie

Beware to anyone who uses Facebook never add anyone your not sure of and NEVER and i mean NEVER remove a friend from your friends list.

Because if you do you wil wind up with zero friends

Lol sorry i didn't know what else to say so i included this weird intro.

Where do i begin

This is beyond creepy

But a really good well thought out plot

And the acting for an indie film is pretty good this movie is originally shot in English but was not released in English although i was lucky to have seen the English version.

So if you can get your hands on the English version watch that its always good ti watch a movie in its original as it was intended too.

The ending is going to blow your mind for when you watch it a second time you will watch it in a whole other light.

Lights Out (II) (2016)

keep your lights on people

If you were never afraid of the dark you will be after watching this.

Because the only way you can stay safe from the demon is to keep your lights on.

this would definitely give you a sleepless night or two or a high electric bill for sleeping with your lights on!!!

Overall the plot is good and the jumpscares do their job it makes you jump

It scares you and give you nightmares which is what horror movies are made for.

Watch it and see if you can keep your lights off

Knysna (2014)

a good Afrikaans comedy

This is a decent Afrikaans comedy and its good without trying too hard.

There is some crude sex jokes but for the most part it stay squeaky clean which when the Afrikaans movies started out again in 2007-2010 it was rear finding a good family comedy.

Neels van jaarsveld again delivers he is a very good actor.

But the parts that made the movie for me is all the scenes involving Julie stryjdom(lady DI roos) and shaleen surtie Richards(Gerda) HER facial expressions are priceless

If you want a good comedy that's suitable for the family with just a little bit of adult humor this is your movie

The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012)

perfect and beautiful

This movie was beautiful.I was captured from the getgo the whole plot from where it starts till where it ends.

The message in the movie is also very good and we should take it to heart.

I love Disney movies in general their just so light and fluffy and some are very inspirational .

The performances as usual was great especially Jenifer Garner as Cindy green and Cj Adams as timothy green

If you haven't seen it yet you have to watch it now you wont be disappointed and its good family fun and if you have a heart you will shed a tear at the end of the movie.

'n Man Soos My Pa (2015)

A huge emotional ride

This movie deserves more than a 10 it was outstanding and powerful all the way through.

Kudos too every actor that was involved with this project Sandra Prinsloo,Antoinet Louw,Greg Kriek ,Elma Postma,Neels van jaarsveld and Deon Lotz

This movie like many before tackles the monster that is alcholisim but they tell it through another light + they make you feel something for everyone they show it through everybody's eyes which is where the others lack from just showing it through just the victims eyes.

This was the first movie that made me cry from beginning to end i was a wreck when it was over bc it is just si sad. THE MOVIE makes you think its deep and it makes you even more emotional when you know of family members with a drinking problem

But what this movie does is it shows that no one is perfect even the people who play the victim is not always who they seem to be.

So this movie is a MUST WATCH don't let this one slide you cant afford it.

Born to the West (1937)

sweet and short

Firstly i know this movie by its other title"helltown".(its very strange that some movies have a different title in some country's)Its also very seldom that a full story can be told in 60 min this movie did i a great job.

The movie is short but the story is well taught.

The movie centers around 2 drifters played by John Wayne*dare rudd(brilliant actor) and Sid saylor*dinkie hooley(brilliant comedian) they arrive one day at a small town where dinkie's rich cousin lives. After a while dare starts noticing a girl.......

Dare falls in love with dinkies cousin's girl and there for the title helltown cause after that all hell brake loose.

The only reason a give this a 5 is bc its in black and white it brings down the quality of the movie

So if you love westerns and John Wayne check this one out.

Hercules (1997)

Greek mythology

Oh were do i start this movie is pure excellence it is on my list of Walt Disney's most greatest achievements nr.7.

There's just something about Greek mythology that's just intriguing and Disney did a great job in telling the story.

The music is phenomenal and another Disney animated musical that works.

This movie is flawless nothing bad i can say about it.

My favorite songs in the movie is *zero to hero *go the distance *say your in love

This is a movie of Disney that you have to see no excuses

So if you haven't seen it yet do it NOW.

Helen of Troy (1956)

oh the many many stories of the Greeks

Now first of i am not a fan of Greek stories the only ones that i like is this one , Walt Disney's Hercules; and Pompeii.

Beginning with this movie i was going into it with the intention of hating it.But boy did this one surprise me.

I didn't even catch on that this is the story of the Trojan horse i realized it first when the wooden horse showed up on the screen.

That aside the love story that's inter wined is perfect

Rosanna podesta and Jack sernas was a perfect cast even though their voices were dubbed seeing that both of them are french.

That aside this is remarkable movie.

Give it a try and you will fall in love.

Walking on Sunshine (2014)

what a big let down

This was such a big let down.I was hoping for something along the way of "Mamma MIA",and "Rock of ages" but no it was a huge mess.The movie starts awesome the opening song was good and it looked promising it went on and when it came to the second song things started to fall flat.But after the song things picked up again until 30min into the movie.And then things went down hillcompletly.The songs didn't fit with the story it looked like they must picked songs and sung it between every 5 min.I had such i hopes for this movie but it turned out to be a huge f up.

Further a rarely give movies a 1 bc even if a movie is bad there's always something that can push the number hp to at least a 3 but this movie had none i thought that the music would make up for it but even that did t help. AND who makes a musical movie with Leona Lewis and not even giving her a full song This movie BLOWS i am very disappointed.

This was a pretty good and different comedy. And it featured south African comedy queen Wena Naude(she can make you laugh until your tones curl over)A woman in her late 30's decides that she is going to write her senior years papers with her son because she hadn't done it when she was younger.She made that decision because half the time she doesn't even know what people are talking about.So she wants to sharpen her general knowledge. Of course she doesn't tell anyone. Why on earth would she.This makes a platform for a Good comedy.Oh yes and let's not forget the professor. Hilerious. Check it out if you want a good laugh. With: *wena naude *esther van ruyswyk(in her first and only performance) *harriet pienaar(in her sophomore performance)

Lokval in Venesië (1972)

Ge korsten!

This movie is average but Ge makes it all worth while.oh that VOICE(say no more).This movie was well written and only one of a few Afrikaans movies that was shot outside of south Africa(some part were filmed in VENICE) but some of the acting falls flat but if your not much bothered by that sort of thing this is a joy.You have stolen diamonds,Beautiful Women,an annoying orphan,Police,crooks and of course murderers. It s a nice combination. I'm not going to say what Ge's part is in this. That you must figure out yourself.And what will a Ge movie be without music. Yes this is a action,thriller musical. What a genre.Ge sings 4 musical numbers in this film. The lyrics are beautiful. It also features his Big hit "Liefling". If you haven't watched this yet give it a try. And if you are a Ge fan that's enough reason to do it anyway.

Emotional ride!

This movie was beautiful it exceeded my expectations.And that doesn't happen a lot.The movies tackles yet again the devils of Alcahol abuse and what strains it has on a family.Sometime the addiction is so big that their isn't money for food or other houshold supplies.And its not easy kicking the habit. Its HARD.This movie sheds a good light on how it goes in households where the parents or parent has an alcohol problem.Lien's mother in this movie started to drink when her husband went to jail after committing fraud.They had to move from their big mansion to a small town flat.After years her mother lost her job she had to find a new job.Finally landing at "binnelandse sake".But she's stil drinking. It becomes so bad that their is no food anymore. And lien had to jump in find some work for after school.she did several jobs to get money for the house's rent and for food until she just couldn't go anymore. Then she had to make a very hard and embarrassing decision. This movie will pull at your heart strings and hopefully help you to never grab at the Big Bottle.

I remember my Uncle had a little house on the prairie video tape with 2 episodes Bunny and the race. But on the tape they were not separate. It was a 90min episode just under the Title Bunny.So I'm going to review Bunny and the race as one episode. This is a good 90 min episode. Nellie mistreats her horse Bunny which we last saw in the season 1 Christmas episode. The horse runs of with her and goes right into a tree and injures Nellie. She was paralyzed for a moment but her feeling came back the same day. But she did not tell anyone. Mrs Oleson was a bi*ch as always and blamed Laura and the horse but not her Sweet Nellie. Laura feels guilty and when Nellie ask laura to help her with her schoolwork she accepts. But what Laura doesn't know is that Nellie is playing her. She is not as sick as she let's everyone believes. Nellie was a bigger Bit*ch as her mother in this episodes.She now has Laura right where she wants her.Laura is now falling behind on her school work bc Nellie makes Laura do all her homework as well. Laura finds out that Nellie is faking and........ Wait for it. Then comes this classic scene. Laura takes Nellie out onto the hill in her wheel chair calls Mrs oleson to pay attention and pushes Nellie of the hill with the wheelchair. It lands in the pond and Nellie stands up. And Mrs oleson falls over and say "its a miracle" classic classic Afterwards Nellie starts to wreck her room out of anger and she is as angry as hell for laura.in the meantime Mr oleson tells laura that she could have her horse back. A couple of days later laura starts to train her horse for the big annual race that's coming. This makes Nellie jelous so she throws a tantrum and ask for her horse back. Nels says her no. So she goes to her room and screams. Untilk Mrs olson gives in and tells her that she is going tobuy her a real race horse. No wonder Nellie is such a bi*#h the little brat gets everytihng she wants. Tune in to find out what happens. This is a good episode and it has a lot of funny parts.

Memorable scenes: Miss beadle:who's talking?" Laura:Nellie is just telling me why she gives you apples!" Nellie:"I am not" Miss beadle:"please both of you get back to work" Nellie:"I hate you laura" Laura:"I hope so". Lol classic.

Nellie:"hi Jason want to Ride on my horse" Jason:"no thanks" Nellie:"why. You are going to laura in galls again arnt you?" Jason:"well yes" Nellie:"I hate you" Jason:"have you been eating onions?". Classic

Willie:"who won" Nellie:"oh shut up". I was laughing so hard.

All in all this was a good episode and a lot of funny parts. Check it out.

the trouble with people.

The episode leads us into the 3d season.We see the Reverend Alden unconsions in his horse car. A man Named Caleb Hodgkiss took him in and his wife look after him. The next day Robert wakes up and Tells them that theirs been a fire in some village and that he was going to Walnutgrove to take in a collection. To help the people get back on their feet.Caleb tells Robbert that he would g and get the collection for him. The reverend agreed,but Caleb had other plans once all the people had give what they could he is going to take everything for himself. Later towards the end Mary discovers his plot and confronts him. Caught!!

Watch it and see what all happens in between and if the town is going to forgive him or if Mary is even going to tell.

Now continue to episode 2 season 3
