Fruits Basket: See You Again Soon (2021)
Season 3, Episode 13
9/10
A phenomenal ending to a great series
29 June 2021
Fruits Basket is truly something special. The journey you go on with these characters is like no other in anime history. The series had its highs and lows, but it all culminated in a gigantic climax that spanned almost an entire season, and this is the ending of that, and it couldn't have been more perfect. It's emotional and extremely satisfying, though it leaves the viewer feeling bittersweet. It hurts that it's over, but you can't help but smile along with Tohru that you were able to go on such a captivating and beautiful ride with her.

Clannad: After Story: Daichi no hate (2009)
Season 1, Episode 18
10/10
Life-Affirming Beauty
7 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This anime has multiple soul-crushing moments of despair and depression, but this episode stands out because while it is very sad, it's actually kind of uplifting in its sorrow. Tomoya cries whilst getting flashbacks to moments with Nagisa, but ultimately is looking forward and knows what his duty is now as a father.

This is the much needed extreme emotional catharsis where Tomoya acknowledges Nagisa's death head on and accepts his role as a father. THAT is why it hits so hard. Pair that with some gorgeous orchestral music and the tears are guaranteed to flow.

Truly Clannad's masterpiece of an episode.

K-On!: Mata Mata Gakuensai! (2010)
Season 2, Episode 20
10/10
An emotional outburst that's extremely cathartic
9 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
K-On! is a show with very few peaks and valleys - it's just extremely consistent. Prior to this episode, it never really went above and beyond in my opinion, but this is the episode that changed that. The second season of K-On! covers a much shorter span of time than season 1. Season 1 consisted of mostly the biggest moments in the lives of these characters over a much longer amount of time. The 19 episodes that precede this one consist of various, relatively low impact activities and events that we see these characters involved in, so by the time we hit the first big moment, it feels so much more earned and satisfying.

The concert itself was super fun and enjoyable, and it was great to see the five girls just having the time of their lives together. It's a bittersweet moment when you remember that their time together is limited - something that universally hits close to home as we've all been in a similar situation where a good thing wasn't far from coming to an end. This is something the girls acknowledge too, in the most cathartic moment of the show thus far, when they all are stunned at how good of a show they just had and proceed to all start crying together when they realize how close they are to it all being over.

A truly phenomenal episode.
