Truly amazing television
23 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So this show is a comedy and it is funny, but the real draw is that it's so emotionally powerful. Feeling the weight of pain of debt on Ally and Grant helps sell why they would go through such horrible things. And it's genuinely reality TV, you see some real serious emotion here and it's uncomfortable at times in a captivating way, and you feel yourself wish they'd stop but you know they won't because the difference this will make to their lives is huge.

It ends on a high note, it gets scary near the end but it ends with things ok, but it's an amazing ride that i'll never forget.

... Why is the movie so inaccurate?
9 November 2016
Mel Gibson CHOSE to make a historical movie, he could have just made it about some random made up culture. But he CHOSE to make it about the Mayan, them chose to just say screw it and get almost everything wrong.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5pBZKj1VnA This review basically sums it up.

TLDW: He mixes to completely different cultures together which existed 600 YEARS!!! apart from each other making changes left and right for no other reason besides he doesn't care. From the Spanish arriving at a time when they were almost entirely controlled by Islam, to Mayans sacrificing like Aztecs, to smallpox being around hundreds of years before it arrived this movie is just a shameful mess.

The greatest X-Men movie so far.
18 May 2016
Now although over on Rotten Tomatoes this movie is getting a lot of flak I would like to say this. F*&k rotten tomatoes! I've seen people claim that it pushes too much into the movie, and even tho there is a lot going on it's done in a coherent way that makes sense.

The movie in terms of scale is incredible. You really get the feeling that these mutants are essentially gods. It has a huge emotional heart to it with serious tear jearkers at some points, yet also manages to squeeze in great humor and subtle references to fans of the comics. (I won't reveal what they are but it's pretty big) All I can say is that in terms of emotion, action, scale, and tension this movie is by far the best in the franchise. I mean they are facing essentially a god and it's hard to comprehend how they will ever manage to defeat him. Just go out and watch it it's deferentially worth the price of admission.

This movie is a disgusting mockery of tragic events
20 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I suggest everyone who reads this goes and watches History Buffs review of this movie, he tears apart this disgusting monstrosity.

I'll keep this brief. This movie is DISGUSTING!!! It's plagued with inaccuracies, exaggerations, and down right lies! This movie makes Christopher Columbus out to be some sort of visionary, a man who tries his best to keep peace. When in actual fact he sold off native women as sex toys, employed punishments of dismemberment, enslaved the native population, and exploited them to no end.

This movie frames his men as the true villains. And trust me they were horrible people. Doing such awful things as having bets about who could decapitate a man with one swipe first, and even throwing babies into rivers as the laugh. (I am seriously not joking there is actual accounts of this)

But this was all whole hardheartedly supported by Columbus himself. Now there are a lot of minor inaccuracies plaguing this movie as well, but the review I mentioned goes into detail about this.

So in short. This movie is a disgusting cowardly mockery of a real genocide. It frames a man on par with Hitler as a brave kind hearted visionary. Whilst pathetically covering up the real horrors this inhuman monster committed. And for those of you who claim hes just a victim of his time. You should know one of his men became a monk after witnessing what Columbus did. And that he was imprisoned in his own time.

A Goofy Movie (1995)

A surprising heartfelt movie
29 September 2015
When I was younger there were a bunch of movies that I would watch and thought were spectacular! Problem was now that i'm older, i'm realising that quite a few of them weren't as amazing as I thought. So remembering the goofy movie and how much I loved it, I was afraid it wouldn't stand the test of time. But thankfully I was wrong. The movie actually has a really realistic setting. A father trying to connect with his kid, and a kid trying to reach some idiotic fantasy of what it means to be cool.

It's funny, not the funniest animated movie i've seen but defernitally gets a few laughs. It has some good film techniques in it, and it can be a bit cheese at times but hey, it's Disney, that's kinda there whole selling point.

So in short. The goofy movie is a surprising gem of Disney that adults and young people can enjoy.

A man once said fiction is life with all the boring bits cut out, this movie didn't get that.
3 June 2015
I get it was trying to show this feeling of isolation or childhood, but this didn't do it. It's just a movie showing an ordinary boring life of your average kid, but entertainment isn't about the ordinary or the average. It's meant to have drama, romance, action, suspense, it's meant to be an escape from the boredom of life. It got to 4 because of the few emotional moments that did hit home with me. Also even tho most of the actors were kids it was really good acting, usually with kids there's a high chance of the acting being deadpan but her everyone did well. There were just to many boring and mundane moments for me to give it a higher score. And as my mother pointed out it has a very NZ feeling about it.

Final Verdict: It's a VERY subtle drama about the problems of being a child in New Zealand. With some strong emotional scenes and good acting but there were too many unnecessary scenes to make it more interesting.
