Historically all over the place (e.g. Churchill's war leaders demanding Britain surrender to Hitler). It's billed as an action comedy but actually there was no comedy and the action was by-the-numbers shoot 'em up stuff. The relentless slaughter became quite wearisome after a while. None our heroes missed a shot (even the one who killed with a bow and arrow ) and the Germans apparently couldn't hit a barn door. There was no tension or reveals or even intrigue throughout the story. Cast was good and made the most of a limp script but it's a dull romp full of stereotypes - evil Germans, posh Englishmen, slippery Italians and an exotic sex-kitten of a female agent.

Despite lots of snotty reviews from the critics this is a very funny crowd pleaser. It's a simple tale told well. Lots of laughs, pathos and wonderful acting. It's an hour and a half of enjoyment - rather Ealing comedy in tone in fact, which is probably why some critics have missed the point and been quite dismissive. The acting highlight for me was Timothy Spall who has never ranted and raved, frothed at the mouth and generally been on the point of explosion better in his illustrious career. All round though acting was superb - every walk-on part a gem, every secondary character bursting with life, the leads making this extraordinary tale completely believable with the sincerity of their performance.

This was an absorbing tale largely because I hadn't a clue about Wilde's last days. The acting was excellent, each actor delivering a completely believable naturalistic turn. Despite the great support acting if the lead, Rupert Everett ( almost unrecognisable) hadn't been so completely absorbing it could have been dire. He was remarkable, managing the multiple tones and moods Wilde goes through. A tale of sadness and joy and redemption. Such an interesting movie.
