The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Award winning episode
Can you get an award for being in one episode? If so, Nick Offerman should have the award NAMED after him for his portrayal of Bill. Bill was abrasive in the game and he made him not only human, but likeable and human. He made him seem vulnerable and gruff but still kind. I'm guessing anyone that doesn't like this episode had an issue with it being two men in love. That's the only reason you can't see this as one of the best episodes ever made. You had a love story in the a world worse than the Walking Dead and they nailed it. They created a real feeling relationship on screen in minutes. Perfect story telling. It was beautiful it was sad. It was perfect.
The Walking Dead: Rest in Peace (2022)
Some great moments but felt rushed
This felt like it should have been a 2 part episode or maybe a 2 hour finale. Just like the last episode of Burn Notice. It wrapped up all the loose ends but still left me feeling....unfulfilled. Tons of emotions from start to end but then it feels like they just...ended it. Kinda like No Country For Old Men you're involved with the story and then it's....done?
TWD hasn't missed a lot recently but this was a slight one for me. I'm still giving it an 8 because it was good but was really hoping for greatness. Especially after the ending of episode 22 with Mercer's line.
Happy there will be spinoffs but still felt like this one could have been better.
Sniper (1993)
Still Holds Up 30 years later
This was huuuuugely favorite movie of a buddy of mine when we were kids. I hadn't seen it in probably that amount of time but found it on the streams the other night.
This movie definitely made "bullet time" a thing in movies and video games.
Tom is great in this. He's kinda typecast in this roll but he does it well. Also Billy is really underrated in it as well. A young hot shot that hasn't had much real world experience with the grizzled old veteran who knows everything. You're not sure if you like Zane's character or not but he pulls it off really well.
The movie isn't overly cliche and that's refreshing considering the time period. I was scared it would have aged poorly but it's still really good. Heck I might appreciate it now more than I did back then.
The Walking Dead: Rogue Element (2022)
Not a slow episode unless you aren't paying attention
Seemed "slow" yes. At times, yes. But in the end we find out a lot about the characters. Poor Eugene whose fragile to begin with is put through the gauntlet. You see the true Hornsby come out and a lot of true colors shown. Looks like we're laying the ground work for some stuff to really hit the. Carol is quiet and watching. When she's silently watching anything you know she's planning something. Also, Mercer. Something is going on with him. He's starting to show he's maybe not 100% down with the orders he's given any more. Once again, people, this show, pay attention. When we have a slow episode it's usually followed up by a crazypants intense episode. This one didn't have the action but it tore into the emotional element of some pivotal characters.
