I love this show!!!

So I always find Netflix original shows have the same kind of addictive quirky vibe that makes you keep watching. This is it down to a tee. It's about a chinese mafia family who end up in LA to protect the family. A lot of it goes sideways and there's so many ups and downs. There is a LOT of action, which I didn't think I liked but they made it so entertaining. The acting is superb from everyone - especially Justin Chien who plays the main character.

I am absolutely baffled as to why Netflix cancelled this after 1 season? I am praying another network picks it up as I'd say it's in my top 5 Netflix shows of all time, after only 8 episodes.

I'm confused
13 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers so beware ... just imagine a man and a woman seeing their only child be murdered in front of their eyes and they do nothing about it!!! They don't try to fight back once; they have plenty chances in the first few scenes to go and grab a weapon. It is the most unrealistic thing I've ever seen, and it isn't even glamorous or Hollywood feeling. I felt totally infuriated watching this movie. I know this is based on an older movie, but I am confused that neither of them decided to go down the revenge route, as I'm sure everyone watching would have enjoyed.

The actors were fine, who doesn't love Tim Roth? But I think the kidnappers needed some work. It was a STRANGE movie overall.

Let It Snow (2019)

Absolutely YES
19 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I laughed and I cried!!

It's not necessarily a 'Christmas movie'; it is basically set on Christmas Eve and is mentioned a few times and that's it. Also one negative is probably the fact the plot is 'teenagers get stranded in a snow storm'... this isn't really how it pans out and not for one second do they seem trapped. But even so....

Think Love Actually but with teenagers. Interlocking stories that (kinda) come together at the end. I loved all the characters and wanted to sleep halfway through but I couldn't stop watching!!

It is a totally heartwarming movie, family friendly but some definite laughs in there for the adults.

Very scary - and I'm a seasoned horror fan
25 October 2022
I love found footage horror but I'm usually disappointed. I thought Blair witch was a total snore. This film definitely does not disappoint!!!

It's set in covid lockdown times and I think that's why we can watch and relate to the scenario. A group of friends have a seance on zoom and it seems like it's totally real. The acting is so good,- and they all portray fear in the way we would if it was really happening to us.

I don't wanna give anything away really because you need to experience it yourself but all I will say is prepare yourself to finally be scared! I've watched horror for years and this is one of the movies that has stuck with me.

Not so much a horror - more of an anxiety trip!!!
25 October 2022
This movie is WEIRD. I don't think the reviews really suit it. It's on a lot of 'disturbing gory horror' lists and it just doesn't fit the bill.

So first off, Jennifer Lawrence is flawless in it. Amazing acting! She plays the helpless scared wife in a perfect way. People keep entering her and her husbands home uninvited whilst she tries to organise the chaos. And it escalates.

It isn't 'scary' whatsoever but I felt very anxious watching certain scenes, that just got way too out of control.

The ending is cool. It's not like anything I've ever seen. I'd recommend just out of the strangeness of it all.

Almost had to give up

Ok I don't understand what other movies you guys are watching if you think this is good!! I relied on IMDb reviews but now I think I'll have to look elsewhere.

At 1 hour in and still a total snooze fest I almost turned it off. It is a cheap movie and I can appreciate that, but the gore is terrible and nothing that will make you squirm (the gore is also very minimal and I found this on an extreme movie list!!!). So the positives... the main woman Marie, her acting is great and she plays the terrified role very well. I stuck around for the "plot twist" just to see what it was and I agree with some other reviewers when I say it doesn't even make sense.

I would definitely say don't bother.

Nope
21 October 2022
I watched because of the great reviews on here. I've done this a few times now and been disappointed. Are you really a horror fan if this movie scared you??

I loved the promo for the ghost hunter show and the cheesy host. They did well at the start to make it look like a realistic tv show. I thought they really had it coming to them for trying to fool the viewers beforehand. But the scares have so been done before and nothing really shocked me.

Disclaimer: I have watched SO much horror. I think I have been desensitised to it. But if you want to be REALLY scared by a ghost film, I can suggest watching Host instead. This is the only movie I've watched where I genuinely jumped 'out of my skin'.

Don't judge it too much

This show has the vibes of CITV at 4pm in 1998... it's definitely a kids show but I watched it myself purely for the fact I knew Robert Sheehan was in it.

Robert isn't in it very much, only a few episodes actually, but I got quite into it anyway and watched it all. It's very easy watching. If you have kids great, if you don't it's quite a lazy Sunday type of show!

Didn't even make it to the end
12 January 2020
Well I am writing this review with 24 minutes left of the movie. What a load of crap.

I thought 'get out' was pretty good. I was excited for more from Jordan peele. It's so slow, the characters aren't likeable and there's no shock factor either.

It's an absolute bore! Don't bother!

Captivating from the start
21 November 2019
Why was this film not bigger when it came out???

I was blown away by a star is born. I thought bohemian rhapsody was terribly boring.

I didn't watch this because I'm not a huge Elton John fan. But I do like taron egerton and what a performance he gave. I was mesmerised from the first scene and I cannot praise it enough.

The story was gritty and raw and I kept having to tell myself this happened in real life. Jamie Bell always good but was brilliant in this role too. I know nothing about Elton John but I will be reading his life story after this. Also, taron sings elton's songs better than he does in my opinion!! 10/10

Controversial but... so much better than original!
12 November 2019
I really disliked the original. It was boring and dumb and definitely not "one of the goriest and shocking movies ever made" as so many lists online state.

This really got going about halfway and although the ending wasn't quite as shocking as the first, it had a lot more tension all the way through.

Like everyone else said.. boring!
27 May 2019
I love gore/torture movies and this was neither.

It's on the banned movies list (definitely in the UK). Maybe it was banned because it was too boring. Nothing happens at all, except girls have their head shaved and you see a lot of nipples. That is honestly it! I did not feel disturbed or sickened once so don't listen to certain reviews.

Don't bother.

It was ok
16 May 2019
I found it on the 'banned movies in the UK' list that I'm trying to get through lately, as I'm consistently not shocked or excited by new movies of this genre.

It's filmed in a 'home movie' way; shaky cameras, cameras out of shot and not a great quality. But once I got used to this I found that it added to the tension.

There are some uneasy scenes. The family are made to do things unimaginable. But overall I wasn't hooked the whole time. It isn't very gory or violent, it's more of a mind thing as you're imagining what they're doing (because you can't clearly see where the cameras are placed).

It is watchable but to me not really shocking enough to be on the banned list.

True to real life
4 May 2019
I don't know if it's a good thing I watched the Netflix documentary on Ted Bundy before this movie came out. I knew all the twists and turns coming, but I also knew how accurate some of the scenes were (especially in the courtroom).

It was very eerie just how much Zac Efron looked like Ted Bundy in a lot of the shots. Aswell as the mannerisms and the voice. He did well in a serious role although I thought the star of the movie was Lily Collins. The emotion she portrayed was so raw and believable.

If you are expecting a film about Ted Bundy and his murders, you may be disappointed. Although all of the courtroom scenes were shown and very true to how they happened, the film really did revolve around Lily Collins (playing Ted's girlfriend Liz) and how it all affected her.

I shed a tear at the end! It's such a powerful story and definitely one that will stay with me for a while.

It is not gory, it is not violent!
2 May 2019
1 word for it: boring.

You have 1 hour 25 mins of meanless drab dialogue, then you have literally 5-10 mins of mild violence and then an ending. Is it worth it? No.

I love gory movies. Been meaning to watch this for a while as it always comes up on lists of 'top gory/violent movies'. And I wish I didn't bother! I think I'm at the point now where if you've seen the best gore movies (and let's face it there's only a handful) you've seen them all.

I guess all I could say about this movie is the acting is great, but it's a shame the actors had to waste their acting on this garbage. It's pointless and uncalled for. It's a total waste of 2 hours of your life! Don't do it!

It's good!
5 March 2019
Ever since I saw the Nymphomaniac movies I've been fascinated with Lars Von Trier. But then I watched Antichrist and The House That Jack Built and almost gave up. This movie has made me enjoy him a little bit more again.

Emily Watson was great. I've actually never seen another one of her movies. This never gets boring (even tho it comes in at 2:39 which is a bit commitment for me!)

You feel for the characters, not just the main ones; and it keeps you interested until the end. I won't say much more, but I almost wasn't surprised at the ending. Very LVT. I will be watching more of his older movies now!

You won't forget this one
23 February 2019
This has gotta be one of the most 'sex-filled' films ever made. Very graphic, full frontal scenes. I mean, you see EVERYTHING! Even the 'money shot' barf...

It's basically an arted up porno. The characters are not likeable and you kinda feel like they bring everything on themselves. It's hard to feel sorry for them in certain situations. But it's so crazy and out there that you can't really stop watching. Will definitely stay with me for a while.

If you do like this kind of art porn, watch the movies Nymphomanic Vol 1 & 2. They were more entertaining.

Am I the only person who didn't love this?
15 February 2019
I'm not a huge Queen fan. But I do like their songs and thought I'd be moved by this. I didn't feel much at all. I was bored in quite a few parts.

I'm happy for Rami Malek and all his success from the movie, but I couldn't help having Bradley Cooper in the back of my head the whole time; in my opinion much more worthy of all the accolades for A Star Is Born. I really tried not to compare both movies but it was hard.

I liked the portrayal of Mary Austin and how she supported him his whole life. Not sure what else to say, bit of a let down really.

Worth a watch
10 February 2019
Just pretty fun. It's like a poor mans mild version of Saw, Hostel etc. I love these movies and I did enjoy this one too. A major flaw I'd say is the characters are all very annoying, and I found myself not caring if they die or not.

Boring
10 February 2019
This movie (among many others) always comes up in the list of top gory/violent/disturbing movies. It's seriously cringey; I think that's the point, but still it doesn't work. It isn't shocking in the slightest and frankly I was bored. Also there are some reviews that say it is similar to natural born killers.... it isn't!!!!

Very arty, very weird...
8 January 2019
I don't understand why this movie made people 'walk out of the cinema' unless it was out of boredom.

Lars Von Trier's movies have definitely got worse. I enjoyed the Nymphomaniac movies; they were weirdly addictive. Antichrist was pretty boring but definitely more graphic than this one. The House That Jack Built promised 'unnecessary violence' but I'm afraid it had nothing of the sort. I love gore/violence and was left deeply unsatisfied by this.

I liked the idea of showing 5 murders, and I was slightly tense throughout some of the scenes but the rest of the movie dragged so much it didn't make it worth it. If it was shorter and more graphic it would have been a lot better, but knowing how much Lars Von Trier loves dialogue and the arty side of a movie I guess I can't be surprised.

Oh, and the last 20 minutes are very odd. I get what they are trying to signify but it wasn't needed. Enjoy!!

A non cheesy raw emotional 'musical'
5 December 2018
I watched this film with no expectations really even tho the reviews have been great. I thought it might not be my thing.

Bradley Coopers directing was amazing, most of the songs were great and Lady Gaga is a great actress too. But the best thing about it for me was Coopers acting. He was perfect for the role and he is a great singer too. I loved how it was filmed to mimic real life filming too. Also, it's not as emotional as people are going on about. I did sob, but I cry at anything. My one flaw is that it dragged in the middle a bit and it could have probably been 20 mins shorter.

Eagerly awaiting the Oscar nominations (and hopefully wins) for this one. Best film I've seen this year!

Hard to finish
28 November 2018
I still have 27 minutes into this movie as I write this review.

I watched it because it came up in a list of 'top 10 most gory films of all time', and also because it's Eli Roth who is usually pretty good at gore. For starters, there hasn't been an ounce of gore so far, and I can't believe Roth would make something so boring!

if you like dumb teenage 'horror' movies where nothing happens maybe it'll be your thing.

Not what you might expect
16 July 2018
I found this film in a list of best torture films. I love saw and hostel and was hoping for this kind of thing. It's a slow burner at first, it sets the scene for over half an hour and I began thinking am I watching the right film? But when it starts it REALLY starts. I could say a lot about this film, like how the main guy could have done a lot more to help the situation. But I won't say much because I want you to watch it knowing and expecting nothing like I did. What I will say though, is I actually cried at this film. And I don't think I've ever done that in a horror film before. Enjoy!
