Bushwick (2017)
an actual civil war movie
Unlike that poop of Civil war that you're gonna hate after going to the movie theatre, that costed a bazillion for the lamest final result you could possibly imagine, Bushwick is made with the same budget of the box breakfast of the other movie and manages to deliver everything without having to "explain" anything. The standpoint of an average newyorker going on with his daily life being blown away by the events is incredibly vivid, believable and brutal. Add a fantastic soundtrack by the mighty Aesop Rock and you got a little jewel with very little pretense that end up delivering bigly, do yourself a favor and watch it.
Mayans M.C. (2018)
as good if not better than SOA
Besides a quiet disturbing number of people who just can't help drooling their racism in what supposedly should be a review of a work of fiction, and the fact 'murican never cease to show what a poorly educated audience they are (complaining about subtitles? Really? Can you get anymore pathetic?). That said this is beautiful to watch and unexpectedly gets absolutely way better once they kicked out Sutter from the production of the show allegedly for his very poor treatment of cast and crew.
Acting is top notch, the story is gripping, you'll see many familiar faces from SOA and of course the vibes is the same but Mayans still retain it's own originality giving an insight of the mexican people in southern california and the daily dose of racism they deal with that clearly SOA couldn't have. VIsually is great and the writing is fairly on point not showing too many holes and managing to keep you entertained and asking for more.
Overall a must watch even if you never was a SOA fan.
The Expanse: Home (2017)
by far the best of the best
Writing this after episode two of season 6, and after being on the edge of my seat for the entire time. The Expanse is by far the best scifi saga airing these last years. I should add that should include all the scifi motion pictures as well, everything is left in the dust by this masterpiece. There are no technobabbles and everything is extremely realistic, and none the less the action scenes have a gripping tension and a visual impact other series can only dream of regardless of their budget. Stellar acting, a great premise (the books are top notch), description of martian and belters is top notch sociological scifi in the vein of the best Asimov, if you like science fiction and you never saw this you're doing yourself a big disservice, but you're also damn lucky with 6 season of pure gold awaiting for you.
Foundation (2021)
best scifi since the Expanse
Don't worry about all the cognitively impaired who gave this a bad review, in this era of brainless candy coated garbage made in walt disney that people call scifi, something with the scope and intellect of Asimov work couldn't find the praise of such an audience regardless of how close to the source material the series is or how is directed or whatever. There's more story development in the first episode than in two season of the Mandalorian, and people who don't activate their brain rather blame what their watching (without understanding) than the fact they dumbed down so hard this is far above them. That said, there's action? Yup. Space battles? Yes, big times. Clever ideas? Tons, the story is convoluted, jumps back and forth across centuries but anyone sticking long enough will be rewarded by the final episodes wrapping everything up in a wonderful fashion. Great acting, visually stunning, easily on pair with Dune or the Expanse. Let the hater hate and enjoy.
Sweet Tooth (2021)
It comes from a vertigo graph novel so top notch as usual.
The fact that the most intelligent provoking and fun series with super heroes are neither from the candy coated PC boredom world of Marvel disney or the hot mess of DC comics is a testament to VERTIGO and their out of this world production of intelligent and weird comics over the years, Sweet tooth is no exception, absolutely fantastic, never boring, actually moving and somewhat original without revamping like marvel does the same old pre chewed and pre digested tropes over and over again. A real breath of fresh air. Now bring on the Sandman.
Black Summer (2019)
best zombie series out there
The bad reviews on this are a testament to the declining cognitive abilities of the viewer. Brainwashed by one too many Disney pre digested series they are totally unconfortable with this realistic, gritty and adrenalin infused series. All I can say is, best zombie action scene ever seen on a TV, great acting, no soap opera boring stuff with dumb characters like the walking dead, keeps you nailed to the chair without a single dull moment. No romance whatsoever, great story structure with mini chapters from different point of view of the same story. Overall a masterpiece, if you used to like zombie flicks and wanna make peace with the genre, this is for you.
Gomorrah (2014)
all time classic
Sollima is the best director for crime drama of this generation, period. The fact someone could possibly give this gem 1 or 2 stars only speaks volume about the general dumbing down of the human population, you need to be at least not cognitively impaired to understand this masterpiece, if you are then there's michael bay for you.
