Wonderful portrayal of human emotions, ego and rage! 10/10
19 July 2021
I watched Ayyappanum Koshiyum with subtitles as I don't understand Malayalam and I laughed, cried, and went into introspection. We all are multi - layered personality with our emotions taking over - who we are! What we appear from outside, is not who we are from inside - various life events, the environment in which we grew will have lots of impact. Towards the end, when we overcome those feelings and get better of them, we, the transform ourselves into a better human being. This is the ongoing process.

I learnt a lot from this movie. The acting, direction, cinematography - all are top notch. It is a praiseworthy endeavor to chose such a topic for the movie and execute it to perfection.

I thank the Malayalam file Industry , one of the best in India for bringing out one gem after another.

Watch this movie when you have a relaxed 3 hours and trust me that it won't disappoint you at all.

A good, realistic, sweet and emotional film
4 January 2021
It is a good, realistic, sweet and emotional film. It is set up as a road-trip which you enjoy as you fall in love with its characters.

It helped me understand an era that I had not experienced. It is funny despite the seriousness of the material. The best part - it beautifully avoids the trap of preaching.

Please watch it once. 9/10.

Hopeless story , editing, direction
20 November 2020
What a waste of time money and talent. It appeared they thought of creating something different but ended up with a product which is complete disaster.

Direction is poor and equally bad is the story telling and presentation. Nothing is aligned to the theme because the central theme itself is not there. You seem to be cheated when one after another scene comes and you are not supposed to apply your mind.

So many characters and different story and they try to tie it together but failed badly.

Please save time money and don't pollute your mind. You will do a great service to yourself.

Watched it and just loved everything about it - Super!!

The movie is just brilliant. The simplicity of the characters and the way the actor's performance play with your own understanding of reality is just amazing.

I come from non - malayalam background and watched it with English subtitles. I wish more and more people watch these kind of movies and learn the art of story telling, direction, cinematography and how to use the simple story to convey social message.

Loved everything about it.

Paatal Lok (2020– )

Content is the king - speechless!!! Watch it!
19 May 2020
Please do not read reviews - first watch it and then come and read and write reviews as I did. It is so pleasing to watch Indian Web Series getting matured so quickly in its content, writing and presentation. Actors and talent have always been in abundance.

Paatal Lok is the story of a father whose one dialogue summarizes the entire series - "Pori Zindagi apne baap ki aankhon mei dekha ki mera beta Chutiya aai, ab apne bete ki aankhon mei nahi dekhna chahata ke uska baap chutiya aai". We all in one or other way is trying to prove one or another thing. And the decisions taken in this course of action becomes the defining story of our life. From the beginning, you soon get completely engrossed to this central theme that you don't pay more attention to any references to religion, caste and politics through out. All these are there to carry the story forward but never takes the pace away from its core values.

Another thing that works in its favor - the protagonist is not a super hero - doesn't deliver heavy dialogues or appears to come out of any situation unscathed. Credit goes to the entire crew for entertaining us right from the first episode till the end. Providing us with a drama that ends but the character stays with us for a long time. Relationship between a father and his son, a teacher and his disciple doesn't let the story stray away. You develop sympathy with characters because there is no hero or villain. Everyone is part of a well - oiled machinery.

Go and watch this gem. You will not regret even a single episode because they have not wasted any single character (even a dog). There is hardly a dull moment.

The Night Manager (2016–2025)

A well balanced thriller - will not let you stop once you start
7 April 2020
The Night Manager is a very good thriller. It is a Spy story with no violence. The story builds in a way that it gives enough space to most of the main characters. The best part that works in its favor that it doesn't try to be too smart and doesn't tilt in favor of one or another character. Each one is equally vulnerable and driven by emotions like a real human being.

I felt that there was enough opportunity to provide some more depth and dimension in between to the characters. Certain convenient assumptions to end the story in a positive way takes away the opportunity to develop a great season 2.

A masterpiece that you shouldn't miss!!

What a fantastic piece of art presented in the form of nicely crafted 8 episodes of season 1!

Writing, direction, screenplay, casting has been very honest. All the characters, yes I mean, everyone has a role to play - even a 'water tank', 'monitor', 'bottle guard (lauki)', 'office wheel chair', 'solar light'. I learnt that how much can be offered to the viewers in just 35 minutes episode when you have a fresh approach and honest intent. Each episode is a story in itself where you get to see new characters taking center stage.

Highly recommended 10/10.

True story and good performance.
18 January 2020
This is based on true story and very relevant in today's. America. The spirit of young precocious kid and the eternal wait form his eyes is worth mention. The positive story telling without any melodrama leaves us with a fresh air.

Thank you for the show.

Season 2 - Absolute gem!!!
7 December 2019
Just ended up watching all the ten episodes. A wonderfully crafted thriller!!!!!!!! It just seems to have started where it had left last. Even taking it to The next level.

When you select cricket as the background a for Indian audience, it must be done technically very well. I must say that team has done a great job and i enjoyed every moment of the show. Never felt like it is slowing down. Pace is nice enough to keep you glued to the screen. The characters know what they are doing. You start believing that they are real cricketers.

But the most important aspect is their life and what we stand for as a human being. We relate to whatever happening. The multiple personal / emotional / relationship drama has been nicely presented in this multi-layered emotional thrilling drama. You don't know who is right and who is wrong when the writers and the screenplay lives the moment which looks so real.

Looking forward for the next season.

Season 1 - Not conclusive - difficult to connect with characters
2 January 2019
I ended up watching this series as soon as it was out. For someone like me who haven't read the novel, the series episodes were the only thing to judge.

This is a new experiment. Though cricket is popular in India, yet there is not much quality web series. The premise is very obvious where two small town kids enter Mumbai to make their name in Cricket. Given the fact, with IPL success, we have seen many small town boys success stories, so it didn't seem something new. So, the pace and emotions was required to weave the story around these.

However, episode by episode, the director / writer kept on building the characters which were difficult to emotionally connect with. The depth and pace required was completely missing. The worst part, the season 1 ends abruptly. Not sure, what are they trying to achieve. I think, they haven't been able to think in terms of seasons... where you complete a story and then build the next on top of that .. in the next season.

Watch it with hope that season 2 will be released soon and that will conclude the story.

Ankhon Dekhi is a true gem that you should not miss
4 January 2015
When you take philosophy as a subject, it is often difficult to connect with your audience. But Rajat Kapoor has done a true justice with the film he wrote and directed. Sanjay Mishra as the main protagonist engages you till the end of the movie with one of his finest performances till date.

The movie embarks on the main idea of leading a life based on one's own experience and poses a rather difficult question in front of its viewers by means various anecdotes which keeps coming in the movie at regular intervals. It is all refreshing and takes us near to ourselves.

I highly recommend you to watch this movie and you will not be disappointed. I wish to see more movies like this in future.

Reba is great
5 December 2008
During my 4 months stay in US for some business work, I got a chance to watch some of the old episodes of this TV series. I'd say that I liked this, It made me laugh.

I read some of the comments and people may like or dislike it. Everyone has got their own opinion. What appeal to me may not have the same thrilling impact to every other person. Everyone has got the different level of maturity level. And that drives the ability to extract the comedy out of the ordinary situation and enjoy. Reba is one of those series that has got that family flavor and comedy is inherent.

All characters have got good timing, very critical to make a good comedy. Story is woven around the day to day situation in a family. I would not say more but I miss all this in my country India where we still get to watch the pathetic television serials. Other than this, I got a chance to enjoy 'Friends', 'Desperate Housewives', 'Everybody loves Raymond', Seinfeld' etc.

When I look at all this series as an outsider, I get to know more about this wonderful country US. The way they blend the comedy with family drama gives it a totally different flavor.

RGV is at his best once again
26 December 2005
I have seen this movie in theater. It has been one of the all time best performance by Amitabh, Abhishek and Ram Gopal Varma as the director of this movie. RGV is always unique when it comes to screenplay. He defines his own rules.

We can see Amitabh playing as Subhas Nagre. He is the God father in the city. He has been perfect in depicting his emotions through his face expressions. We have seen him earlier as an angry young man image in so many movies and now he is so natural in this new set up.

I have never seen Abhishek acting so natural in any of his movies. "Yuva" is the exception. In Sarkaar, he has been superb. Earlier, he was unwilling to take his father's legacy forward. He wanted himself to keep clean. He become's his father's son when his father needed him the most.

The best scene in the movie is when Abbhishek kills his traitor elder brother and comes and sits near to his father on the bed and says "Maine bhai ko maar diya". See the pain in the eyes of Amitabh. The way this scene has been filmed is just wonderful. The communication is perfect and much of the things get conveyed with the least dialogs.
