The Evil Down the Street (2019)
Genuine spooks and thrills from this independent film.
A family move into a dream house with a past, in the shape of a demon using the Mum as a conduit which tortures and terrorises the mother and family.
Despite being familiar territory and a well worn conceit there is plenty to recommend here, some great jump scares, atmospheric moments, helped along by smart and confident camerawork. The excellent location is amazing and is itself a character. Its extremely hard to get horror right and especially on a micro-budget but the filmmakers pull it off with a strong entry to the genre.

Fun debut
Brian Gianci and Chris Shenkle's film about love & obsession hits some solid comedic notes with strong, committed turns. Comedy is notoriously hard to do, especially in an Indie, so hats off to the performers.
It's enjoyable and an entertaining jaunt through a more left-field view of love, relationships & their trials and tribulations. Massive props do go to Gianci & Shenkle, who not only take the two lead roles, but directed and edited it also, no mean feat in itself for a debut feature, a fine example of indie film making, a little rough round the edges but all the more charming for it.

Hauntingly Beautiful Film
I sat down to watch this film at a film festival a while back without any expectations.
It started off very low-key and the tone remains so throughout but narratively it builds and builds into an epic mosaic of working class Brazil. One of the most quietly political films I've seen and so much more powerful as a result of that quietness.
Charming, funny, angry and tragic, this film has stuck with me for a long time and I don't think I'll forget the experience.

Beautiful Documentary
This is a beautiful, in depth documentary with such an inspiring story.
A film with a big heart and great central characters. We root for Kaikasha and share in her frustration with the societal pressures that attempt to suppress her desire to play cricket and I dare anyone not to finish this film without a smile on their face as she proves herself worthy.
Beautiful shot, the film gives a real sense of the environment it's depicting. The opening montage of Mumbai immediately sucks you in to the world of this complex family.
Brilliant stuff, watch it now.
