Bethany (2017)
Not a Bad Attempt
Bethany is a horror movie about a couple that move into the childhood house of the wife where strange things start to happen. The wife starts becoming unhinged so what forces are at work? Bethany has decent acting and the ending explains the events throughout the film adequately. The pacing of the movie is okay but there are some boring segments in the movie. Bethany is a decent time but I would recommend watching this on DVD or free to air TV. It is better than some other indie horror films. My score 5/10.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Awesome Movie
Batman vs Superman is the first time in history that we have two iconic characters go head to head on the big screen. The movie is basically a sequel of Man of Steel with some in society blaming Superman for the collateral damage when he fought General Zod. Among his detractors is Bruce Wayne who does not trust an alien. Clark Kent on the other hand is concerned that Batman has a license to kill in Gotham City and wants things done by the book. Lex Luthor plays into this animosity be egging each side on.
BvS is an awesome movie. I highly recommend the Director's Cut as it explains more and is a bit darker. The acting and the action scenes are praiseworthy and the dramatic ending sets this movie apart from the majority of Marvel movies. Some did not understand the movie and hence gave the film a low score but for those who are paying attention and willing to reflect on the movie it is an awesome spectacle. This is not a simple movie, as it requires one to think and put the pieces in place. If you are willing to do that then the movie will be a fantastic experience for you.

Nothing Left to Fear (2013)
The Only Thing to fear is Boredom!
Nothing left to fear is about a pastor and his family who move to a country town to take over the church because the older pastor is retiring or so it seems. Things start going downhill once they get there and we are given clues as to what is really taking place behind the scenes. Basically the family is needed by the town to put an end to the evil that dwells within the town.
The acting is average at best, even with the likes of Anne Heche who plays the wife, she seems rather ordinary. This is classified as a horror movie but the scares are cheap and the cgi is ordinary. Wait for this one on free to air TV. My rating 4/10.

Willow Creek (2013)
Go to a creek instead any creek will do
Willow Creek is a found footage movie regarding the Big Foot legend. Unfortunately the movie for the most part is a bore and all the action takes place in the last fifteen minutes.
The plot is basically a man who believes that Bigfoot is real, making a documentary and taking his girlfriend on a journey to where the Bigfoot legend was filmed. The first part of the movie is basically them getting there doing some interviews with the locals. Unfortunately this part is rather boring and it really doesn't engage the viewer. The ending is quite predictable where you see them camping at the location and hearing strange sounds outside the tent. You can guess the ending.
I would wait for this to come on free to air TV or if you do manage to rent it on DVD/Blu Ray, fast forward to the last 20 minutes. My score 4/10.

The Culling (2015)
This movie with cull your time and sanity
The movie portrays itself as a terrifying supernatural thriller but comes across as a B grade try hard horror movie. The basis premise of this movie is that a group of friends plan a getaway for a weekend together. On the way to their destination they find a lost girl and then proceed to take her back to her house. While at the house strange things happen. The plot definitely had potential but the script is rubbish and the acting is amateurish. There is perhaps one good jump scare in the entire movie. This movie is more laughable than scary. The ending does not even make sense. Is the girl real or not? How does killing strangers help build this army made of children? By the way the ending leaves you guessing what will happen, as if we care when the rest of the movie is a waste of time. Wait for this on free to air TV.

Coffin Rock (2009)
Predictable but good!
Coffin Rock tells the story of a rural Australian couple who are having difficulties starting a family due to the fact that the husband seems to impotent. This drives a wedge between the couple and although he cares for his wife he finds difficulty expressing it. His impotency makes him feel less of a man and causes him to become somewhat introverted. In a moment of weakness his wife has an affair with an man who has become infatuated with her. Turns out he is psychotic. The rest of the movie is self explanatory.
The acting is very good and although the plot is very predictable there are some parts where the movie leaves you guessing. I saw this movie free on Youtube and would encourage you to see it. Worth a rental or wait for it on free to air TV.

The Canal (2014)
Not a horror but a psychological triller.
The Canal is a competent movie with a decent script and competent acting. The problem with this movie is that it tries to be too many things. Is it a horror? Is it a psychological thriller? Is it a movie regarding possession? If one views this expecting a horror movie then they will by sorely disappointed. I viewed this as a psychological thriller and I think this best describes this movie. There are not many scares and I know that the director was heavily influenced by the movie 'The Ring'(you will know what I mean when you see the movie).
The plot is your basic haunted house plot where a family David and Alice along with their son move into a house that was where a murder took place. The father murdered his adulterous wife, the babysitter and his children. Events start mirroring what took place previously. David finds that his wife has been cheating on him, thinks about confronting her but eventually blacks out, only to find that his wife has gone missing. Did David have something to do with his wife's disappearance or is there something more sinister at work? The lead actor Rupert Evans does a great job at portraying the father caught up in a web of fear, grief and betrayal. The supporting cast is good too. You wouldn't go to the cinema to see this. Rent this on DVD/Blu Ray or wait for it to come on free to air TV.

Thor: The Dark World (2013)
It's dark alright but not in a good way.
The rating on IMDb is misleading. The movie is average 5/10 at best. The plot of the movie is that Thor must fight the dark elves who use ether as some sort of weapon. The acting is okay. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins were competent in their roles. The standout was Tom Hiddleston who played Loki. Kat Dennings of Two Broke Girls fame plays the intern is there for the comic relief. However as other users have mentioned, the humour is not funny but rather irritating. She too has an intern and he comes off as an idiot and not in a funny way. This movie has some amazing special effects and scenery, however unless the plot is of good standard, special effects can only carry it so far. The action scenes with Thor are bloodless thanks to a pg13 rating and are not that great. This movie is worth a hire or wait for it to come on free to air TV.

The Wrong House (2009)
You Reap What You Sow
I was able to see this movie free of change on Youtube. Yes you can actually see some pretty decent movies free of change on Youtube. This movie however is far from decent. The plot is the basic payback movie. A group of friends go on a camping trip and get a wild idea to break into some random house and steal drugs and other items. The owners track them down because they had cameras on the house and give them some time to restore the stolen goods. The teenagers think the couple is bluffing so ignore the dead line at their own peril. You can guess what happens next.
Even though the plot is paper thin the acting is worse. It seems these actors were hired at special rates for their acting prowess is next to zero. This is not a horror movie. This is a torture movie done very poorly. If you have the stomach for it watch 'A Darker Reality'. That although a budget movie is done well. Another movie that I'd recommend is "Clown". These are movies done properly. Watch this on Youtube for free and don't spend a cent otherwise. Basically a waste of 80 minutes.
