Doctor Who: The Star Beast (2023)
Despite some.flaws, this was a relief
Let's start with the good: this was a fun ride. I both laughed and cried during this episode, sometimes at the same time. After the confusing mess from the last few years, I loved seeing familiar characters and well written action scenes spiced with humor.
The bad: Donna's husband was a meaningless character. His wife and child tangle with aliens and he just shrugged? Donna and Rose were able to just "shrug off" the timelord influence? What a waste. Rose was able to handle everything becuase she is non-binary? It made no sense other than an attempt to slip in pro LGBTQ+ propaganda.
I can't wait for the second special...
The Unforgivable (2021)
Some other reviews cannot have watched this movie
Other low reviews have so many errors (confusing the sister for a daughter, confusing the sister's age for her adopted sister's age, etc) that I don't think they could have watched this movie.
Sandra Bullock was amazing in this movie. Her acting was subtle and totally in character for the role she was playing. People who claim she was "wooden" don't understand the character she was playing. There were many nuances to her performance...but only if you were paying attention.
The rest of the casts' performances showed a real understanding of the dilemma of human emotion.
The ending had me.crying like a baby. I don't know the last movie to have me do so.
I rarely give out 10 stars, I've taken classes in film and have university degrees, so I don't understand the reviews that bash this wonderfully touching film.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
Writing this as I suffer
I really wanted to like this movie. I really did.
But I don't understand what the filmmakers wanted to accomplish. None of the characters were true to the comics or any other former movie. Were they trying to make Harley Quinn likeable or make her seem old and boring...mixing the 2 extremes wasn't enjoyable to watch. It was the worst portrayal of a comic character since Two-faced in Batman Forever.
Wasn't funny, wasn't relatable. The only part I liked was the sandwich...
The Hustle (2019)
Why the hate?
I laughed from beginning to end. I don't know why people are hating on this movie. One of the best comedies I have seen in a while.
My only criticism is that I knew what was going to happen because I saw and lived Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Hope for What We Do Not See (2016)
Subdued acting doesn't mean bad acting
Several reviewers don't actually get this movie. Yes it is a religious movie and not a blockbuster but that shouldn't take away from its depth and intentions.
If you lose it all, your job, you family, your health, your friends...what do you have left? What stops you from ending it all? That is what this movie isbtryingntonshow, the human struggle
Forever My Girl (2018)
Maybe you have to be drunk to enjoy this
Bad acting, annoyingly horrible.music, and a plot so bad I had no choice but to walk out
These Words Must Be on Your Heart (2014)
Worth a re-watch
I don't think the only other review on her what this movie was trying to do. Yes the young kid is a terrible actor, but most of rest of the cast did a passable job.
The whole point of each characters' personal dilemma is that they are all torn between two different lives and that they, like all of us, have to make choices
Young People Ask: How Can I Make Real Friends? (1999)
Ignore the hate...
Yes the video is a bit heavy handed and obvious. Personally I think instead of a 40 minute video this could easily be a series looking at how depression and loneliness can make a teenager make poor decisions.. But remember this *was* the first modern day drama that was ever produced by the WBT society
Zoo (2015)
Some good parts, some horrendous
I don't hate this show like many seem to, but there are so many problems with this show I find myself frustrated with watching it.
There is a Nova Scotia pilot who refers to his money as "Andrew Jacksons." Maybe this makes sense in the US, but Canadians have no idea who Andrew Jackson is. Because they are "freezing to death" as it is "well below zero" they burn tens of thousands of dollars. The problem is, it is raining. It is *NOT* well below zero. Sorry, you wouldn't freeze to death in that warm weather (maybe if you got completely soaked, but a small fire of paper would not help you get dry enough)
Should I go on?
Alligators in Vancouver? Sorry...no.
How about seemingly instantaneous travel from South America, to Geneva, to Vancouver in just a few moments? It takes many many hours (days even) to fly that distance, even with a super outfitted plane.
I applaud the attempt to make an "international" show, but try a little harder, could you writers?
