Chasing Shadows (2014)
I am so MAD at whoever decided to cancel this show
I have seen a lot of crime, mystery series, it's my favourite genre and after a long time I found one which was so well made. I do not understand how can a show with such likable characters and intriguing storylines, not be renewed. I could have easily seen a bunch of seasons of this one.
The two storylines were interesting, the characters of the particular story were introduced properly, and when the reveal came it wasn't a complete surprise, you could see it coming, the signs were there, it made sense but at the same time it maintained the suspense and made sure you kept guessing till the end. This balance is very rarely seen and rarely so satifying.
The constant storyline with our main leads was also great, in a matter of just 4 episodes I had actually fallen in love with them, which is so rare for a tv show to be able to achieve that. The actors seemed very comfortable with their characters and each other and which made their characters feel real. We got to know them better through personal scenes with their own families and friends (who you also get invested in and want to see more of) but none of the scenes seemed to be stretched out, unneccasary and were not taking anything away from the parallel mystery.
The ending made me mad and sad at the same time, and I really wish that someone decides to bring this quality show back especially after seeing the last episode. I need closure!
Venom (2018)
Maybe the critics watched some other film?
After finding out that the critics bashed the film and the rating was low, I was disappointed and unsure. However, my love for Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed made me go watch this film, and I'm so glad I did.
It was fast paced with an interesting plot and good direction. A worthy introduction to the scary but cute antihero, Venom. The action sequences and CGI were terrific, especially the last fight scene. The jokes were on point as everyone at the cinema laughed on cue.
The acting was great! Tom Hardy played the role of righteous Eddie Brock brilliantly, where one would love him most of the times and at the same time feel frustrated at some of the choices he made. Him and Venom made the perfect yin-yang. Riz Ahmed as Carlton Drake created the right menacing auro his character required, despite being a slim, harmless looking guy, he still managed to play the powerful villain role excellently.
Michelle, as lawyer and Eddie's ex-fiance, and Reid, as her new doctor boyfriend, supporting Eddie were sweet to watch. Last I saw Jenny was in Parks and Rec so it was nice to see her doing a completely different role. Scott as Carlton's hitman, Wayne, Peggy and other cast were all good in the role they were given to play.
Over all, the movie was not ground breaking
by any chance and had a couple of flaws, but it was a fun fun ride, definitely worth the ticket and time. There's a credit scene guys, so don't leave!
