This is a history & philosophy lesson that endorses Nolan's range
4 August 2023
Anyone expecting an Interstellar or Inception type movie from Nolan here, shouldn't. He does a tremendous job of demonstrating his range as a director. Pacing is perfect and it's a biopical/political/philosophical history lesson that inspires thought and debate about the human condition.

The acting is superb throughout. My only ick is the way they portrayed Truman. I think he was more torn up about the decision he signed off on than was suggested.

So many cameo's from world class actors that are significant and relevant rather than being cheesy. Rami Malek's was my favourite. Very clever how they entwined his character in the plot/climax.

The Capture: Correction (2019)

A disappointing end to an otherwise decent series...

First 3 episodes in this series are great. This episode should've wrapped things up rather than go typical BBC and drag it out for additional series for more money.

Joker (I) (2019)

An Honest Review
7 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Phoenix was fantastic and probably does deserve the Oscar for the performance, but it's not enough to give this a 10.

I think the writers got lost in the story of mental illness and making a political statement on social hierarchys and how life isnt fair, 'that's life' unfortunately. They do it fanatasically it has to be said. You sympathise with Arthur throughout. Everyone he kills kind of deserves it you feel.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to his killings though it's more reactive and impulsive. Which is why Pheonix's Joker lacks the fundamentals of the original villain. That he's supposed to be a calculated psychopathic anarchist. He lacks the premeditation and intelligence of Ledger's Joker and this is why I dont think he can feature in the Batman films. Plus by the time Bruce grows up to be Batman, Joker will be an OAP!

"Some people just want to watch the world burn", but I don't think Arthur does. He's a man out of touch with reality, he doesn't know if he exists or not. He cared for his Mother and tried to make people laugh until the government cut funding his therapy and meds. It's the sad story of a deeply unfortunate life.

Overall it was a great film and again JP was outstanding, I just feel the writers lost sight that Joker is supposed to be a villain. One that will argubaly prove to be Batman's toughest adversary.

Surprisingly Great
19 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was unsure at first about the series' premise, but after the first episode I was gripped! Great acting from the lead characters and you end up really liking them, especially Lee who was hilarious throughout (bit weird too).

A few characters grate on you but they meet their fate. Mark Strong is a class act and holds his own as lead character. Would definitely recommend a watch. I'd change the genre to dark comedy!

The acting was THAT bad in this episode I think it was the actors rebelling...

I'd say it's like everyone forgot how to act in this episode/series but their disbelief in the script couldn't have come across clearer. An injust ending to a fantastic series.

Let's hope the ending can be rewritten via the books (which were better anyway)

Gripping. A sombre reminder of human capability
17 May 2019
Perfectly acted and gripping from the start. OK the characters aren't speaking with Russian accents, but you quickly get over it, and once you do you're in for a captivating watch. Nobody wants to be entertained by such a disastrous human tradegy, but this show reminds the viewer of how naive, ignorant and dangerous humans can be and the threat we pose to ourselves and the planet.
