The magic of cinema
7 July 2022
For me. This is the magic of cinema. Movies like little diamonds. Sparkling in the dark when one thin ray of light is touching them.

The movie feels like it is set up in a little a snow globe. This helps us to get close to the main character.

Setting out with her on a journey from internalized restrictions to the full freedom of personal expression.

This is the one thing I wish for everybody in real life. Do not make yourself unhappy by limiting yourself unnecessary.

The big picture
19 February 2021
Kudos to the whole team behind it. I saw a lot of movies and series treating single topics regarding the fight for equality in the U.S.A. But this series truly shows the overarching correlations. How the politics and narratives of the money making slavery business profoundly poisoned the society for over hundred of years. How the past echoes through people minds and keeps them trapped into toxic belief systems. This series is educational on so many levels. After viewing "Amend" I appreciate the first article of the human rights even more: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."

Well made documentary about a psychopath with money and media presence
2 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
McAfee was and is not a security guru, but a very good spin doctor for his own purpose. Surely he was at the right time in the right place and sensed a business opportunity. But creating a program to get rid of first virus with global media attention has not been rocket science. Not at the time when the computer world has been much more simple and not so interconnected and multi-layered like today. But John was and is good in getting media presence and making business out of it. Now he manages to transport his deception of the security guru legend into the modern IT world and sell it to young gullible people. Have a look at the negative reviews on IMDb trying to discredit the documentary and its film maker to get a glimpse on the success of the ruthless self-marketing abilities of McAfee.

The documentary is about how to get away with murder when you are John McAfee. If you want a label for it then I would compare it to The Jinx. There are a lot of different people interviewed whose testimonials in combination shed light on McAfees dangerous personality and make a strong point that John needs to go on trial for the murder of Gregory Faull.

Very good documentary
23 May 2017
It is an important documentary to get background information on the ugly politics business in the U.S.A. when it is voting time. Do we have to thank the film team for this effort? Definitely. But they couldn't have done this without the fundamental trait which is driving Roger Stone in front. His ego which want to be remembered in history and do not want to be forgotten. When his pure ego is getting predominant he gives information away he would definitely deny at another time. With additional intelligence on the consulting company of Roger the movie shows clearly how the Trump voters get fooled by the same people who are pulling the strings since decades. Is Roger Stone entertaining and the movie funny? - Everyone who gets a malicious joy out of the misfortune of other people will find it funny and thrilling and Roger Stone admirable. Others will find the movie educational - it depicts human hubris on large scale.

Beautifully poetic music history - colorful, crazy and wild
12 August 2016
I saw part one minutes ago. As someone to whom Grandmaster Flash and the likes of him is a big part of growing up the movie strikes a cord with me by nature.

But apart from that I like the wild mixture of dance movie, musical, Hip Hop party, poetry slam, documentary, Kungfu flick, coming of age, spraying, "mastering" the ceremony, DJing, comedy, drama and romance. I recommend to watch the documentary Rumble Kings before watching The Get Down to fetch some historical background information.

Hip Hop with its sampling, mixing, scratching and juggling with words opened up a musical playground for audience and artists. The movie transforms this successfully into visuals.
