Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Far from Trek
I really wanted to like Disco but it's too much of a hot mess. If they aren't hammering ham handed woke lessons over your head then one of the crew is having a mental breakdown or acting like a teenager. Not your father's Starfleet.
The unprofessionalism extends to foul language that is obtuce and not needed. This keeps young kids from experienceing a show about STEM. (Probably a good thing here.)
Just when you finally think it's over and things can't get any worse they jump the shark with a Stacy Abrams cameo. Anything to virtual signal to the party. Sith Lords have no place in the UFoP.
Shigatsu wa kimi no uso (2014)
Catches you in the feels
Sheesh... This one got me. So much emotion in this one. It was fun but also very sad, deep and tragic. They poured a lot into this one and for me it fealt like they really stretched the boundaries of anime to create something bigger.
Mayor Pete (2021)
Not enough
I found this to be lacking content and it really failed to resonate. Feels like just another pan on just another Washington insider. It could have been better if they highlighted more of his accomplishments.
Blippi (2014)
Dirty Jobs for kids
If Mike Roe from Dirty Jobs and Pee Wee Herman had a son his name would be Blippi.
I hated Blippi at first but over time I caught a few episodes and realized my 2 y.o. knew the difference between tires, wheels and tracks. He was learning!
Blippi seems over the top but really it is far less screaming and adrenaline than any other kids cartoon.
On the surface it's stupid but underneath there is a lot for preschoolers.
Colors, numbers, vehicles, jobs, physical fitness, even some subtle physics.
The folks that ranked low didn't take the time to watch WITH their kids. Give crazy Blippi a shot.
