Babes in Toyland (1986 TV Movie)

So So Bad it is good...
31 December 2006
I cannot believe I have never heard or seen this movie. I was getting married in 1986 and I guess this just passed me by! Tonight for the first time, I am watching this movie on TV with my nine year old. He loves it! I on the other hand am feigning interest while I'm amazed and entertained by the bad acting, tacky costumes cheap wooden toys and really bad sets!

My 9 year old LOVES the whole thing. The weird little beat up cars and leftover stuff they must of used from a closed amusement park. This looks like a episode of Puff N Stuff on a lower budget. I can certainly see how all the people who truly love this movie must of loved it when it first came out. Lets just say, if I didn't have a 9 year old, I would of clicked right by. :)

Good, but very violent and bloody... and long
13 October 2006
Amazing cast. The acting was great. I thought the movie was too long. Almost 3 hours... ( well that includes previews, so not quite that long) I don't usually go to see "gangster, mafia type" movies, because of the violence, but the reviews were so good, and I like movies with lots of twists. Heavy swearing and tons of bloody stuff with some real gore. I loved Leonardo DiCaprio in this, he was excellent. The "girlfriend" situation could of been so much more, and I was disappointed the way that turned out.

Can't say much else without giving things away, and I don't want to to do that. I will say, it wasn't the ending the I guessed.

This show was delightful and so full of a sense of "place"
1 October 2006
I watched this on the BBC channel here in the states, and I was utterly enchanted. I have been to Scotland, and I felt like they captured that feeling really well. I just recently discovered the actress I loved, Sharon Small, is the lead in the mystery series, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries. So I'm quite happy to watch her in all those! I thought they cast the entire thing wonderfully. I wanted to see more of these people and their lives.

I was very sad when this ended and I went online and discovered they had no plan to continue the series. I will buy it if it ever comes out on DVD.

Superbly done, true to the book through and through
4 January 2006
I'm not a fan of knights and battles in movies, but I did read these books many times as a young adult and consider the series among my all my favorites. I was truly impressed with the way they managed to convey the story so closely to my young imaginations version of it. There was not a sour note to found here, and the casting was amazing! All four of the main characters were perfect, and even down to Aslan the lion, who was even better then I imagined! The music is perfect and adds tremendously to the movie. Back to the " knights and battles". Wow.... how awesome was that? Great job. The computer team on this should win some awards for sure, oh and I can't finish without commenting on the actress who played the White Witch, I thought she was very good, ( wow she has some real arm muscles there in the final battle)but it took me awhile to get over seeing the borg queen,( she played that part too) it felt so similar! Great Movie

Very disappointing, felt like all effects, no story!
2 July 2005
After the first 20 minutes of repeated scary effects, I kept thinking the story was going to "start", then after a certain amount of time had passed, I realized that this was it. Repeated effects, scary music and lots of people trying to get away from it all. Even the ending did not explain itself very well... (a voice telling us how the end of the situation came about) While watching it, you get no sense of who are these aliens?, where did they come from?, and why do they want to kill all of us anyway. Who is their leader? There were some moments that lead me to think more was coming story wise, such as when he touched the rock and said it was freezing, and put it in his pocket, when he saw someone he knew with her child at the ferry.. ( what was that all about?)

Too many implausible situations, some of which were really quite annoying... the one car in the city that works?, the only people who aren't hit by the death rays, the one house with light, being able to drive on those roads! the fact they could swim like that with all their clothes and shoes on?? I don't think so How did they all get to Boston? Then the end with the family on a clean, quiet street happy and safe? What was that??? Very unbelievable. This had potential to be interesting beyond special effects, it flopped badly.

I like movies that make me think This one didn't give me anything to think about!

Look for a War of the World video game soon, it fits.
