The Batman (2022)
Not batman, not quite detective movie
Let's face it. He is not a good detective in this movie. Almost every riddle is solved by another (Alfred, Selina, penguin??), or he is just lucky enough to be the right person at the right time (carpeter uncle? Really?). Also, so emo. So very emo. Life is dark. All is pain. I have to follow family legacy. You're not my dad.
And that seawall. What is that all about? And the torch symbolism? Geez. He's the hero we need, not deserve, and not the leader of the city. That's superman.
All in all, take out all 'batman' words, and put maybe 'veteran,' agent'' or 'retired detective', and you'd have the same movie. You can't do that with superman, or Spiderman, or any other superhero movie.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)
Good, not great.
Let's get right down to it. The main problem with this movie is the story sucks. It's irrational, incoherent mess. I feel sorry for the franchise. Everything feels jarring, and it's hard to sympathize with the characters, or even understand the villain. It's still worth seeing, but don't expect too much.
The Emoji Movie (2017)
So many 10 stars reviews. Really guys?
Hey, don't take my word for it it. It's currently 3.3 stars on imdb. The masses have spoken.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Outstanding
From start to finish, never a wrong note, never a boring moment, never fail to impress. I hope everyone give this movie a chance, even if you don't usually watch animated movie or superhero movie. It's just that good. If you're a comic book Spiderman fan, then you absolutely have to see this.
Incredibles 2 (2018)
Want to love this, but can't
First up, big fan of the first movie.
okay, now SPOILER
What's good? all characters are true to their original self, except not so much for mr Incredible. In the first movie, he just realized that family is more important than moonlighting hero duty. That's the whole point of the first movie. In this movie, he is a egoistic man who wants to be a hero again just for the sake of living up the hero life, even to the point of being frustrated when elastigirl does a better job than him. No more is the Mr incredible who is risking his job at the insuricare helping little old ladies.
Others have already said that the villain is weak. I agree. Remember awe when they are having a hard time fighting syndrome and the mark 10 robot, and how clever the solution was? In this movie, that was the first 15 minutes, and they let the villain get away, and all they did to stop the underminer was basically all frozone's efforts. heck, even the final crisis is averted by frozone.
I cannot say how dissapointed I am when the scene where frozone is asking for his SuperSuit is forgettable.
Edna and JackJack really shines, and I really really wish those are longer instead of dwelling overlong on Dash's math problems.
Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay (2018)
No kids movie
I started watching expecting to fall asleep midway. Instead I stayed awake way past my bedtime because the story was so interesting.
It's best if you watched Flashpoint Paradox first (which is another excellent movie by the way), but it's not really required.
a bit gory, but it's refreshing to see a movie where it's not afraid to kill important characters.
Why is DC animated movies so good, yet the live action movies so bad I wonder.
Pacific Rim Uprising (2018)
Just for kids.
Really bad. One of the things that make the first one memorable is the music. Ramin Djawadi really know how to make the sense of awesomeness in a score. This one? forget orchestral music. Rap and hip hop, bruh. Because kids are hip, and we want them to buy the action figures.
I went with low expectations, and are dissapointed regardless.
