Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)
Proving a rul without an exception
I'm sure there's an exception but film versions on TV shows never come close. I put off watching it and reading the reviews until I'd the right moment. I want that moment back.
Was this meant to be an, on the cheap, Batman movie? I have this 2 stars and the second one was born out of compassion.
The setting is compressed but not in a good way but in a "well, we may as well keep using this same shot of London's Chinatown to fill out the hour and 17 minutes, in what's meant to be a cinematic release. There hasn't been a worse cinematic release since Weinstein stopped doing them in to flowerpots.
Every single media student should watch this because they'll learn more about movie making watching thisthis than a Bill Blatty boxset.
Moon Knight (2022)
My least favourite thing in entertainment
I don't know anything about this character but according to Boba Talks, he's a Batman type character and that's what I was hoping for.
If they indulged me by giving me 3 of 4 episodes of Moon Knight Batmanning and then went in to this, I'd have been all over it. I gather that Issac is a fan and might have wanted to put all of, possibly, his one go in to these six episodes but a critical friend in Disney (let's stop pretending that Marvel is a thing) should have told him to have more confidence.
Belfast (2021)
I was there at the time
I'm from Belfast and an the same age as Ken and what I watched was more like La La Land that, the excellent, Bloody Sunday.
Back then, none but the very rich could fly back and forth to England and the ferry trip was prohibitively long for weekend visits. It can't decide what part of Belfast it is in. It's obvious that all those involved came from a theatre background, wit their over projected accents, apart from Judi Dench, who kept giving up on even trying.
I'm befuddled by anyone from here liking this and astonished at the Oscar nominations.
Midsommar (2019)
People don't seem to get that this has happened and that's the true horror.
In a world were people have lost it and seem to think that zombies are a real thing, this is a true horror.
From ancient Egypt, to Greece, to Mexico and beyond, such things were done and that's the most frightening thing about this film, that you could be them.
I loved it and my inner voice was telling me that Danny Boyle watched it and hated himself for not coming up with it.
Till Death Us Do Part (1965)
So, what's a Trump voter
You can save yourself a lot of time, trying to figure out what's going on with the world, from Trump to Boris, just by watching a few episodes.
Johnny Spreight knew the value the oppressed put upon a figurehead that was the head of the reason why he was so poor, so oppressed, just as a Trump voter thinks their flag is of any value and it is more important to them than food in their child's stomach.
Written by and starring two wonderful Marxists, their message was sadly missed but is still a message for our time.
Game of Death (1978)
Just watch the fight scenes on YouTube
They are the only scenes worth watching and it's so bad, I hope the same happens to Adam Sandler's last film.
I get why they made this but with today's CGI, I think it should be made again
Perpetual Grace, LTD (2019)
Every one of your senses satisfied
I HATE people even mentioning it because I want it to be mine, alone. At the same time, I get so emotional when it gets praise, as if I was somehow responsible for it.
I could easily plug my ears and watch every episode or wear a blindfold and do the same. I LOVE wordsmiths and they are at play here, like a musician or singer wary of a single bum note destroying an entire performance.
I saw a reviewer complaining about in-jokes and why shouldn't they be there? This series (actually, it's a 500 minute movie) knows me, knows people like me and knows what I know and gleefully plays with that.
My partner lasted 3 episodes and that's fine because they are not pursuing the Everyman and it's all the better for that, as is any movie or show that does the same.
